Forgiving is the Christian thing to do—except when it comes to women getting pregnant out of wedlock, apparently. A North Carolina woman told WTVD she was fired from her job for being pregnant without a husband or plans to get married.

Venita Short worked at New Life Baptist Daycare and Preschool in Fayetteville, North Carolina. When she told her school she was pregnant, she was intensely questioned about her plans. She explained, “I plan to get married one day, but not because I’m pregnant.” Even though she’d worked at the daycare center for a year and a half with good reviews and three raises, she was told she would have to wait for the school to determine whether or not she was fit to continue working there. They then told her outright she wasn’t fit to work at the daycare because she was unwed and pregnant.

According to the ABC affiliate,

“Short said the unwed pregnancy is her personal business and should have nothing to do with her job. Ironically, before she got fired, Short took care of several children of single parents at the church. That’s why she can’t understand the church’s reason for letting her go.”

Amen, Venita. Your pregnancy is your business. She’s good at your job so there’s no excuse. Shame on them for this foolishness. We wish Ms. Short the best of luck and hope she finds a new, better job in a hurry.
