Every week Mary Jane is starting to test our patience now that she’s seemingly made the decision to block out the fact that Andre is married and continue sleeping with him and attempting to have any sort of “relationship” with him that’s possible — even if it is dysfunctional. While some might call that dumb, and others have decided she has “hoe tendencies,” Mary Jane’s brother came up with a different explanation altogether: she’s an addict.

Hmm. Is that what it is?

Addiction is typically only thought of in terms of some sort of substance — drugs, alcohol, food, etc — but when you look at the definition of the word, which is the continued repetition of a behavior despite adverse consequences, I think we all can agree Mary Jane is most certainly addicted. But addicted to what exactly?

When we posed this question last night during our live tweet, many of you provided the obvious answer, which is Mary Jane is addicted to that D (we don’t have to spell that out for you do we?). And while that’s certainly probable, you can find good d-i-c-k anywhere — okay maybe not anywhere but it’s available to you if that’s all you’re after and judging by Mary Jane’s desperation for a husband and child, I’m going to assume her addiction runs deeper than that.

@newschool4women posited an explanation that I’m inclined to lean toward, which is “Mary Jane is addicted to one thing. The need for approval. It drives her. It keeps her up at night.”

Makes sense to me. After all, why else would you keep sleeping with a man who’s unavailable other than to prove to yourself — and attempt to prove to him — that you’re worthy, or more like worth leaving his wife for. Andre’s consistent gestures of love and affection toward Mary Jane reassure her that she’s desirable during a time when she doesn’t believe so herself. And when you’ve got a fine man like that providing that reassurance on a daily basis, I imagine it wouldn’t take much time — we’re talking four months in her case — to become addicted to it. The question is will she ever break her habit?

What do you say? Is Mary Jane a classic addict?
