Texting can be a casual past time to keep conversation or a great way to strike up rapport with a potential boo without pressure. Texting is pretty much the gateway to longterm connections for millennials, but how do you know your cell flirting has drummed up enough chemistry to meet in real life?

At some point you have to take the leap because going back and forth through messages without any real life interaction can get boring.

“At a certain point, you have to take the necessary steps to get what you want,” relationship coach and texting expert Claudia Cox told Elite Daily. “Otherwise, you are just going to end up as pen pals.”

One of the ways you know your text crush may be ready for some face-to-face flirt time is the frequency with which you text. If you all are starting your day together, talking throughout, and never going to bed without saying “goodnight,” you probably are ready for the next stage.

“I think that one of the biggest signals is consistency,” Cox said. “If they are consistent, then they are probably gearing up to ask you out.”

Take a look at how long it takes for them to respond too. Someone who is happy to hear from you isn’t going to take hours and hours to get back to you.

“Are they enthusiastic? Enthusiasm is a great way to gauge your crush’s level of interest and breed chemistry,” Cox said.

Look out for warnings of indifference, like the dreaded “k” response or a lazy “wyd.”

“Are they invested in the conversation and trying to be engaging? If yes, they are putting some thought into their texts and remembering specific things you shared with them,” Cox said.

Last, and most obviously, they should be making plans to meet up.

“Are they asking questions to gauge your availability? If so, they want to see if you would make time for them if they were to ask you out,” Cox said.

If they are consistent, the conversation is good, and the energy is enthusiastic, maybe they are just nervous–take the reigns and ask for a meet up.
