We stan for a queen who doesn’t shrink in her greatness!

Media maven Issa Rae took the stage to accept the Emerging Entrepreneur Award at the Women In Film gala.  The “Insecure” star was recognized for her outstanding achievements as a digital, television and film sensation.

“I’m the first, so you future hoes need to bow down,” Issa hilariously began her speech. “I’m closing all doors behind me, so if you didn’t make it in, oops, your bad! You’re out!”

“Entrepreneur means I did that s–t by myself,” she continued.

She also took a playful jab at HBO execs, who air her hit show and told UTA they have bigger fish to fry than to worry about her.

“UTA, worry about that writers’ strike instead of about me,” she quipped, adding,  “HBO, keep running me my money, please and thank you.”

The millennial mogul ended her speech with a confident and defiant,

“Entrepreneur till I die; I deserve this, bye.”

So often, Black folks humbly accept awards given to them by mainstream media platforms, with this sort of indebted gratitude around being recognized. But Issa Rae approached her praise with something we rarely get to relish in as Black women: worthiness.

Her confident approach to an award she worked so hard to achieve is the type of energy we should all bring to our accomplishments.
