(New York Times) — Labor and business leaders are busy sifting through questionnaire responses from the record crop of would-be aldermen to determine which of the challengers might be friendly to their agendas and could mount viable campaigns.  More than 350 people turned in nominating petitions last month to run in the Feb. 22 election for the 50 City Council seats. The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce has assigned about a dozen staff members and consultants to sort out who’s who in each ward, said Jerry Roper, the chamber’s president and chief executive.
