(AP) — D.C. Mayor-elect Vincent Gray says the city’s fiscal challenges are “daunting” and is asking the public for suggestions on how to close a $188 million budget gap.  Gray spoke Monday about the state of the city’s budget. Lawmakers have until the end of December to close the current budget gap caused by overspending and lower-than expected revenue.  Gray asked the public to make suggestions during a hearing Nov. 30, but he said suggestions should be more than pleas to not cut programs. As challenging as the current budget year is, next year is expected to be worse. Gray says he knows that city residents and businesses are facing difficult times, and he promised not to ask for tax increases until the city has taken a hard look at its spending.
