We’ve all heard men throw out that tired phrase “the crazy ones are better in bed,” but can that be backed up scientifically?
A new study from the Journal Of Sex may have found some links between personality type and bedroom satisfaction. Lead researcher on the study, Julia Velten, and her team interviewed participants about their sex lives.
They reported that “men whose partners had less emotional stability reported better sexual function.”
Social scientists also discovered, even though the adage is “opposites attract,” men reported higher sexual satisfaction with partners who were similar to them.
“In men who are easily aroused by erotic fantasies or visual stimuli, having a partner who responds in a similar way may facilitate sexual function,” the researchers said.
Study participants averaged 51 years old and reported being in their current relationships for 24 years on average. Good news is, the researchers did not find a decline in sexual satisfaction over time for the couples.
“This finding implies that a healthy sexual life is possible even in long relationships,” the researchers said.
The researchers did not offer why they think emotional instability and better sex for men are linked. I would posture, since emotional instability is described as a borderline personality disorder linked to feelings of worthlessness, low self-esteem and insecurity, that perhaps these women are less likely to demand or speak up about their needs, thus leading men to get the ego stroke that they are “doing their job,” and so they consequently feel “satisfied.” “Risky behavior” is also linked to emotional instability, so maybe these bed partners are also more likely to experiment.
