(NYT) — The New York City Council is considering holding oversight hearings into racial and gender diversity at the top levels of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s administration, according to council members.

Council members said the prospect of hearings stemmed from an article in The New York Times on Tuesday analyzing diversity in the Bloomberg administration. The article found that in a city in which the non-Hispanic white population is now 35 percent, Mr. Bloomberg presides over an administration in which more than 70 percent of the top senior jobs are held by whites, and roughly 60 percent are held by men.
