(WSJ) — Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Friday raised the possibility of reversing plans to lay off 1,600 city workers, two days after thousands of city employees gathered outside City Hall to denounce the mayor’s budget plan.
The budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 calls for 1,607 layoffs and the loss of 4,971 jobs through attrition. Mr. Bloomberg and the City Council are expected to reach an agreement on the budget next week.
