(Atlanta Journal Constitution) — A slight drop in Georgia’s unemployment rate for April is really nothing to crow about, says Jeffrey Humphreys, director of the University of Georgia’s Selig Center for Economic Growth. The economist has repeatedly said that, as the state’s recovery lurches forward, unemployment will remain well above the national average.
In fact, Humphreys, who has observed three recessions since arriving at UGA in 1989, thinks the rate will tick up again later this year as Georgia’s economy gains strength.
