(TheMediaOnline.com) — The name Murphy Morobe is synonymous in South African politics with one thing – anti-apartheid activities of the 1970s through to the 1990s. A former publicity secretary of the United Democratic Front (UDF), Morobe was one of the leaders of the June 16, 1976 student uprising in Soweto. However, today, sitting in his offices on Illovo Boulevard, northern Johannesburg, one is greeted by a different image, that of a veteran businessman. Morobe was appointed chief executive officer of Kagiso Media last November. The group posted a revenue growth of 22 percent in the financial year ending in June, upping its income to R738-million. Broadcasting revenue is also up by 16 percent driven largely by the group’s primary media assets – East Coast Radio and Jacaranda FM.
