(St. Louis Post-Dispatch) — On Friday afternoon, with Illinois’ $13 billion budget deficit staring lawmakers in the face and a summer recess deadline looming, the Illinois House spent more than half an hour debating Arizona’s controversial immigration crackdown.
“If I was in Arizona, and I was looking for advice on how to run my state,” Rep. Ron Stephens, R-Highland, said in a frustrated floor speech, “I don’t believe I would look to Illinois.”
