“I Don’t Even Know My Name Right Now!” American Idol Winer Candice Glover Talks About Her Big Night!
On Thursday night, America declared Candice Glover the winner of American Idol.
With so much excitement in the air, Glover is still in shock she earned the top spot. “I’m still trying to process it,” she told reporters according to People. “I don’t even know my name! It feels amazing, though, to finally have gotten to this point after working so hard for so long.”
Glover auditioned twice in the past, both times being turned away by judges in the preliminary rounds.
On Thursday night’s finale, Glover proved why she is America’s newest star. The diva sang “Inseparable” with Jennifer Hudson—earning a standing ovation from the audience.
Awww, good for her! You can read more about Candice’s night over on Essence.com, including what runner-up Kree Harrison told her after she was announced the winner.
American Idol sometimes has trouble continuing to keep the spotlight on their winners and sometimes, you don’t hear much from them once the their album is released or soon after that. As great of a singer Candice is, do you think she’ll reach superstar status while still under the Idol contract?
She Just Thought You Should Know: Beyonce Opens Up About Pregnancy, Miscarriage & ‘That’ Pregnancy Rumor
Before you all get mad at me, let me point out that “Bey season” has officially begun and there will likely be a rise in talks about Beyonce. Just bare with us, okay? This is entertainment news and Bey is…an entertainer. Still mad at me? Well, I tried. Let’s move on!
We’re starting to hear more and more about Beyonce’s documentary Life Is But A Dream which will premiere in February on HBO. USA Today was able to get an advanced screening and apparently, Bey decided to be extremely candid when speaking about pregnancy. By now, most of us have seen the trailer for the doc and know that we get a quick glimpse of her belly in the very early stages of her pregnancy with now one year old Blue Ivy.
But it goes deeper than that. She speaks on her miscarriage and how one week there was a heartbeat and the next week, she heard nothing. If you recall, we first learned about the Carters’ miscarriage on Jay-Z’s song dedicated to Blue, “Glory.” Beyonce says the studio became an outlet for her to deal with the loss.
Oh and about that rumor that she didn’t actually have a baby? Here’s what Bey had to say:
“There’s a stupid rumor. The most ridiculous rumor I think I’ve ever had about me. It’s crazy. To think I would be that vain – I respect mothers and women so much and to be able to experience bringing a child into this world, if you’re lucky and fortunate enough to experience that, I would never, ever take that for granted. It’s the most powerful thing you can do. Especially after losing a child, the pain and trauma from that just makes it mean so much more to get an opportunity to bring life into the world. It seems like people should have boundaries.”
I’m sure this does nothing for those of you who believe she didn’t carry Blue but she’s finally addressed it directly.
It’ll be interesting to see what else she has to say or share because as we learned in the GQ interview, she is filmed 16 hours a day. As much as people may love her, the struggle in her fame is that people still don’t feel like they know her and I’m not exactly sure the filming schedule will make her seem more believable. Still, there’s got to be something in all that footage that makes her feel more relatable, right?
Life Is But A Dream premieres on HBO on February 16th at 9pm.
Actually, these aren’t first world problems; these are rich and famous people problems.
According to Zimbio, the producers and judges recently did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which they discussed trying to get the show back on top. When they asked Nicki about finally agreeing to do the show after the rumors had been floating, she said:
“Sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it’s almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I’m still surprised I decided to do it.”
Wait, I think I get it. American Idol is a wildly mainstream show and it is understandable that some artists, particularly hip-hop artists, would be a little reluctant to join a show like that which airs weekly. But that only applies to artists who have never crossed over into the mainstream world. Nicki has been part of the mainstream world so long that many would actually hesitate to still consider her a hip-hop artist or rapper; some just call her a pop artist who also raps.
She’s worried about how collecting a check for judging singers (something she doesn’t do quite well) on a major show makes her look versus the crazy hair, facial expressions and cheesy pop songs? Well, alright then. We all have to figure things out for ourselves.
Do you think that Nicki will ruin (not in a bad way though) her hip-hop image by being on American Idol?
Let’s be honest: Rihanna catches a lot of heat for her choices so it is great when we can tell a story that “shouldn’t” warrant any negativity.
While on vacation in her hometown of Barbados (have you seen the pics – homegirl is having a great time), Rih took some time to visit the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown. According to the USA Today, she also donated 3.75 million in BArbadian dollars – equivalent to $1.75 million USD – for equipment to be used at the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine located at the hospital. Clara Braithwaite was Rihanna’s grandmother, aka Grandma Dolly, who passed over the summer due to cancer.
She reportedly made a statement saying:
“I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done in effort to save lives or at least extend it and I thank you all for being a part of it.”
What an amazing gesture. Cancer research is so important as it seems that most of us have known someone who has lived with or currently living with such an ugly disease. All hospitals, big or small, can use as much help as possible in helping to find a cure.
Good job, Rihanna!
If you follow sports or just like to follow up on cute athletes, you know by now that Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was injured last week and is out for the remainder of the playoffs. Well earlier this week he was spotted in a sky box watching his teammates and spotted in the row in front of him was his rumored girlfriend (and unconfirmed expectant mother of his child), Mieka. As I scoured the comments of various sites that posted the pictures (she’s in the row in front of him on his right side), there was one consistent question: “Why does she look so rough?” The questions that followed wondered why she wasn’t dressed to the “9s” and why she couldn’t “really” get her hair done. Hmm. I looked at the pictures again and noticed that she likely wasn’t wearing any makeup and yes, she had on rain boots but other than that, she looked like she was genuinely there to show support for the game.
The follow-up comment to that question was almost always, “If you’re going to be an athlete’s girl, you need to step your game up.” So although Mieka’s look might be fine for a woman dating an “average Joe” and may have been okay when they first met, it is unacceptable for her to have such a casual appearance (in public) when she is dating a man who is not only rich but is also a superstar. Essentially, being yourself – and we don’t know this is how she looks everyday as this is only one set of pictures – is not as clear cut when your status has been elevated because of your relationship.

What’s your take? If you find yourself dating a celebrity, are you obligated to step up your appearance? If you do, are you wrong for changing? If you don’t, are you asking for him to move on to a woman who will “step it up?”
