While many celebrities work on maintaining a positive image in the public, the careers of these stars took a hit after they were accused of rape or sexual assault.
During the height of his career, Mike Tyson’s dominance in the boxing ring was interrupted with a jail stint. 18-year-old Desiree Washington accused Iron Mike of raping her in a hotel room after calling her up and inviting her to a party. Even though Tyson insisted he was innocent, a jury found him guilty after just ten hours of deliberation. Sentenced to six years in prison, Tyson served three before he was paroled. A year after his release, Tyson won the WBC title after defeating Frank Bruno.
And just like that, it looks like the Sean Kingston Gang Rape Lawsuit is now over.
TMZ is reporting that Kingston decided to settle the lawsuit with Carissa Capeloto who accused Kingston and his bodyguard of gang rape without getting any more people involved in the situation.
According to sources, Kingston and his team decided to settle out of court, paying just a fraction of the $10 million Capeloto asked for, but not because Kingston is guilty. The singer has an album coming out soon and with all the publicity he’ll doing, the last thing they want is for media to continue asking him about the “Sean Kingston gang rape lawsuit.”
In fact, the same sources say that Kingston believes he would have beat the charges had the case gone to trial. He simply doesn’t have time for a civil trial.
Sean did admit to having sex with the woman back in 2010 but says it was consensual. He beat criminal charges for the alleged rape three years ago as well.
Well, perhaps this works for all involved parties. Sean doesn’t have to deal with this anymore (except that the media is going to ask him about it time and time again) and the young woman gets some money for all the trouble she says she’s been having.
While I’ve heard good things about Kingston’s latest project, one has to wonder if settling a rape charge will hurt what little visibility he will receive.
What are your thoughts? Do you think it was a wise idea to settle the case? Do you think it is an admission of guilt?
Back in July of 2010, a woman by the name of Carissa Capeloto accused recording artist Sean Kingston and his body guard of gang raping her in a Seattle hotel room. According to Capeloto’s story, after indulging in marijuana and several shots of Vodka, she was forced to have sex with Sean, his body guard and another member of his entourage.
The gruesome report went on to describe the alleged incident in detail, revealing that Capeloto claimed Sean’s body guard literally picked her up and placed her on top of Sean and then all three men proceeded to gang rape her while she was “obviously intoxicated, incapable of consent.” The alleged victim went on to say that her friend eventually came into the room, rescued her and called the police. She was then rushed to the hospital, where she was reportedly treated for injuries consistent with rape. Sean, however, maintained that the sex was consensual. The charges were eventually dropped after investigators concluded that she wasn’t credible enough to build a solid case. Although Sean may have been cleared of criminal charges, it looks the initial criminal investigation was only the beginning.
According to TMZ, Capeloto recently filed a civil suit against the singer over the incident, claiming that her life has been ruined. In the filing, the young woman claims that she has difficulty sleeping and suffers from panic attacks and mood swings. We hear she’s asking for at least $5 million in damages. Sean has also filed paperwork in response to Capeloto’s lawsuit, insisting that the sex was 100% consensual. The trial is schedule to begin in November.
We will continue to keep you posted as this story develops.

Tennis star Serena Williams has dominated the courts for almost a decade but her career and life were in severe jeopardy a few years ago. Williams had to undergo emergency surgery when doctors discovered a blood clot in her lung. “I couldn’t breathe and I just thought I was out of shape, so I thought I needed to get on the treadmill or hit the gym,” the 30-time Grand Slam champion said. “It could have gotten a whole lot more serious a day or two later – it could have been really not good, possibly career-ending, but for the grace of God we caught it in time and I was able to recover.
It’s officially the internet age and everything celebrities Tweet, speak or claim is recorded. But that fact escapes a few of the rich and famous from time to time. Here are a few big celebrity lies your favorite stars have been caught in.
This all started when TMZ posted a clip of Tyga from an unaired MTV show called “Bustas.” In it, an 18-year-old Tyga bragged that he was named after Tiger Woods by wealthy parents who drove Range Rovers and brought him up in The Valley.
And that was news to Tyga fans who thought that the rapper was from Compton. Since the video’s release, Tyga says his parents were only wealthy during the time they were taping the show and that he’s really from Compton. OK Tyga.
On Sunday night, Jamaican reggae fusion artist Sean Kingston was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital after he crashed into a bridge—that linked Miami Beach’s elite Palm Island to the MacArthur Causeway—with a personal watercraft.
According to www.local10.com, the calamity ensued around 6 p.m. After, City of Miami Fire Rescue crews quickened the star and his female passenger to be hospitalized.
TMZ says 21 year-old Kingston and the passenger were rescued from possibly drowning by a Good Samaritan.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino said the two were in severe need of medical attention and were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center, however Pino did not know their conditions.
According to NME, Pino said authorities are investigating the collision, indicating that officials do not believe alcohol played a role in the accident.
According to TMZ, a Epic Records representative, Kingston’s label, and that the “Beautiful Girls” singer was currently stabilized.
Twenty one year old rapper/singer Sean Kingston, perhaps best known for his song “Beautiful Girls,” is currently hospitalized at a trauma center following a jet ski accident. It appears that Kingston was steering the jet ski with a female passenger and somehow collided with a Miami Beach bridge. The female passenger was also taken to the hospital.
We hope for the best for Sean Kingston and his companion.
