It’s a big day for little Prince George. The 2-month-old royal baby was christened in a small family ceremony at Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace in London. The Associated Press called it “a rare family gathering of four generations of the royal family.”
Prince George wore a replica of a gown created in 1841; his father Prince William was the last to wear the original gown at his christening. He was patient and calm through the whole ceremony, making an adorable stank face while sitting in his parents’ arms. When he becomes king, he will be the head of the Church of England.
Once the ceremony was finished, baby George had seven godparents, including a couple who’s a close friend of the royal family.
The world has finally seen Prince George, born last month, and though we may not be getting a look at the royal nursery any time soon, People can give us a sense of what it’ll look like. In the taping for the CNN documentary” Prince William’s Passion: New Father, New Hope” airing September 15, the new dad reportedly said his little one’s room will have an African theme.
His Royal Babyness will have a room decked out with stuffed rhinos and elephants. “”We’ll cover it in, you know, lots of bushes and things like that. [We’ll] make him grow up as if he’s in the bush,” the new dad told CNN. The Duchess was seen browsing high-end textile shops and antique shops during her pregnancy, and the couple is reportedly working with an interior designer to make their apartment in Kensington Palace more like home.
The African theme bit, for a boy named George (as in Curious George or in George of the Jungle) is a little bit funny. What’s less funny is the tone-deafness of the theme, especially coming from a modern-day symbol of colonialism. All of Africa is not the bush, nor is it all filled with animals. Kids like animals, and there’s nothing more fun for babies and toddlers than great big stuffed elephants and giraffes. But why not call it a safari theme? Africa has cities, too, and we’re positive they’re not filled with rhinos.
Surprise! New parents Prince William and Kate Middleton stepped out with their new son today. The couple was seen leaving the Lindo wing of a London hospital.
Kate wore a baby blue polka dot dress very similar to the one her late mother-in-law wore when she delivered Prince William. The couple even stopped to speak to the media. In the middle of the interview, Kate handed the baby off to her husband and said “He’s a big boy. He’s quite heavy. We’re still working on a name. We’ll have that as soon as we can. He’s got her looks, thankfully. And when asked about this experience, Kate said it was “very emotional.”
