Yesterday, a Texas judge ordered Pilar Sanders to stay 500 yards away from Deion Sanders’ home and even further away from their children since the former NFL star was granted temporary custody.

The ruling came at the end of three days of hearings in the Sanders’ divorce case and it will stand pending a full custody hearing for the estranged couple whose children have also been ordered to undergo psychological counseling. Both Deion and Pilar were charged with misdemeanor simple assault after the widely reported home attack a few weeks back and both sought protective orders against each other but only Deion received the court protection.

Police officer John Gardner responded to the disturbance call at the Sanders home with another officer and he testified last week that Deion said he was in a kitchen area attached to his bedroom in his end of the house when Pilar began kicking the kitchen door. He told the officer that his wife began slapping him, so he grabbed her by the waist and carried her from the bedroom. When he got outside the bedroom, he said his wife and her friend began to hit him.

When he was asked how Pilar may have injured her lip, as we saw in the mug shot, Gardner said her injury looked like she might have bitten it. Both responding officers said they didn’t see any signs of an attack on Pilar, who told police she entered her husband’s bedroom because she hadn’t seen one of their sons for three days….*Blankstare*

It certainly sounds like Deion may end up with full custody of their boys.

Sex Crimes Reported on Campus Seldom Prosecuted as Felonies

It’s often difficult for women, especially on college campuses, to report that they were victims of sexual assault, and low prosecution rates certainly don’t do much to convince women that coming forward is worth the shame and embarrassment they often feel.

A report into 16 colleges and universities in the Chicago area found that sex crimes reported on the campuses are rarely prosecuted as felonies. Out of more than 100 incidents reported since 2005, only 12 resulted in arrests, five in convictions, and most potential felonies were downgraded to misdemeanors—an act that is often viewed as an insult to victims.

“A misdemeanor battery is the same charge you’d get if you punched someone in the face,” Sharmili Majmudar, Executive Director of Rape Victim Advocates, told The Chicago Tribune. “To have any kind of conviction is something positive, I can’t deny that. But it’s such a qualified success. We’d like to see more felony charges.”

Earlier this year, The Tribune reported similar results from a June survey of six schools in Illinois and Indiana. Of the 171 reported sex crimes police investigated since 2005, there were only 12 arrests and four convictions.

The arrest and conviction rates in the Midwest and Cook County surveys were far below the average for rapes reported nationally, which suggests other states pursue sex crimes more aggressively, but it seems as though victims may be getting violated all over again in these cases which typically boil down to one person’s word against the others.

Did you often hear about sex crimes occurring on your college campuses? Were perpetrators ever convicted of their crimes? Why do you think the conviction rate is so low?

Drunk Man Needs a Designated Driver, Enlists His 9-Year-Old Daughter

Many of us have been there: you’ve either been asked to hold the burden of being the designated driver for the night, or you’ve had the tough task of duping someone into being the DD so you can ditch taxi fees. But it’s safe to say that you wouldn’t look at your child, whether they’re over 16 or not (who cares?), and say, “Honey, you’re taking the wheel tonight.” But a Michigan man proved how low he could go. The man had his 9-year-old daughter, boosted up in her seat, drive her father to a gas station at 3 a.m. on October 8. According to CNN, the man was seen and heard on surveillance tape telling the gas station attendant, “She drives us here. Nine years old, in the truck, we’re here. She drove all the way here.” What a proud dad, huh?

Once the two got back in the car, a witness called police. During the call, the man told police she was staying on the road,  using turn signals, and that he couldn’t believe it. Now, could he not believe that she was driving altogether, or that she was a GOOD driver? That is the question (kidding). In the end, the daddy and daughter were stopped. The father refused to take a breathalyzer, and he was charged with one felony count of child endangerment, a misdemeanor count of child abuse and habitual-offender fourth offense based on previous convictions, according to CNN.

Daddy wasn’t the only one pissed off about being stopped and arrested it seems. When the cops pulled the two over, the little girl said to police, “What did you stop me for? I was driving good.” Judge for yourself though, because video of the little one driving at the gas station has been provided below, thanks to the good
