It’s about to get ugly in the comments section. Since people found out earlier this year that Rohan Marley is engaged to marry supermodel Isabeli Fontana, the shade thrown at him has been so real. Essentially, the reaction boiled down to: So Lauryn Hill is good enough to bear five of your children over the past 15 years or so but not to marry?

Well, for the first time that I’m aware of, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley is speaking out just a bit about his current relationship with Lauryn and what caused them to part ways last year in an interview with UK’s The Voice online that I noticed on The Jasmine Brand.

“As a man, there are certain things I don’t accept, and it just so happened that I didn’t accept certain things [in the relationship],” he told the site. “It doesn’t mean she’s a bad person or I’m a bad person. It just didn’t work out.”

The couple’s breakup in 2011 was highly publicized, although it would appear the public was late on the breakdown that occurred between the pair since Lauryn eventually made it known that her sixth child, son Micah who was born in July 2011, had a different father who is still unknown to us. And then there was that engagement news about Rohan that hit in May, about seven months after the couple got together. Given that timeline, it’s safe to assume their problems began long before we knew anything about them.

As far as Lauryn and Rohan’s relationship goes today, he says it’s getting to where it needs me.

“[Our relationship] is good as in… in terms of being a mother and father to our children, it’s good,” he said.“It’s not as perfect as one might want it to be. It’s just the way the road went.”

He doesn’t sound too broken up about it. I wonder how things are moving along with him and Isabeli since they postponed their nuptials. At the time that news broke, the story was that Isabeli wanted to get to know all of Rohan’s children before walking down the aisle. I’d be curious to see how much closer they are to that milestone.

Everybody was doing double and possibly even triple takes after finding out Rohan Marley got engaged to Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana. I’m not even sure most people knew they had been dating since October 2011–though that’s not much time to become engaged seven months later. But the thing that had everyone tripping was how this man had been with Lauryn Hill for centuries and fathered five of her six children without even putting so much as a birth control ring on it, much less a wedding one, then all of a sudden popped up with a proposal to this woman.

Rohan and Isabeli hadn’t set a date at the time of the May announcement, and they won’t be setting one anytime soon it seems because according to MSN BRAZIL Isabeli has called the wedding off—for now.

The Brazilian model will only postpone the ceremony because she says the two are in an intimate and romantic moment and do not want to interrupt the sound stage.

But there is another fact that might explain the decision of the top. The children of Isabeli, Zion, age 9, and Luke, 6, do not yet know the children of Rohan.

Although the model and singer trying to promote the meeting, the heirs of the beautiful are not wanting a lot of contact with the new family. She said the boys just want to stay with friends.

If Isabeli is waiting for all of Rohan’s children to meet each other before she walks down the aisle, that could take some serious time. The seven kids that the 40-year-old has between these two women are likely not the only ones out there and hopefully he won’t knock up anyone else along the way to the altar. I wonder if Isabeli is just finally listening to her mother, who told her at the time of their engagement that things were happening too fast.

Well, well, well. Look at what we have here. Rohan Marley, son of Reggae legend Bob Marley and infamous baby daddy to Lauryn Hill’s five children, is finally settling down with Brazilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana. After dating since October 2011, the couple recently got engaged and plan to marry in Ethiopia. They’ve yet to set a wedding date but Fontana told the Brazilian newspaper, Terra, ”Rohan told me that we must return to their origins so that the marriage will last forever.”

That’s interesting.

Honestly, I‘m not here to judge Rohan and his new fiancé…harshly. But I really do have one very important question. Why after dating Fontana for less than a year is Marley so ready to make it official when he and Lauryn, who were together for fifteen, were supposed to get married and have five children together, never made it down the aisle?

And before some of you start making assumptions, this really isn’t a racial thing, for me. And I hope it’s not for Marley either. If anything it’s more about being a man of honor, staying true to your word and doing right by your children. If you believe in the institution of marriage in the first place, and clearly Rohan does considering he took a good minute to divorce his first wife, then why continue to have children with a woman you have no intention of marrying? And that one’s directed at both Rohan and Lauryn too. Sometimes you have to get real with yourself.

*Sigh* I could ask questions all day but really it’s none of my business. I’ll never understand the dynamics of Rohan and Lauryn’s relationship. It’s different and unorthodox. I do hope though, that since Lauryn has had a child with another man, that the both of them have moved on from the romantic element of that relationship because we know those five children will always tie them together.
