It Really Is A New Day: Alicia Keys Planning For Another Baby And A Buzz Cut
Many first time mothers become so overwhelmed after having their first child that they are often turned off to the idea of having more, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Girl On Fire singer Alicia Keys. In a recent interview with Power 106 FM’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood, the 31-year-old singer and songwriter surprised many when she was asked if she considered having more children in the future. Here’s what she had to say:
“Actually I am. I would definitely like to have another baby. At least another one and then we’ll see from there. But not now because I gotta go on tour, this album just came out. I’m excited about it. I need everybody to hear it.”
If you recall, Alicia gave birth to her first child, Egypt Daoud Dean, whom she shares with mega producer and husband Swizz Beatz back in October of 2010 at St.-Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York. That would make her little man a little over two years old now. Another year or so and we definitely think little Egypt could be ready to be a big brother.
Motherhood seems to be working well for Alicia, and according to a statement made by Swizzy to US Weekly, the first pregnancy was nothing but “smooth sailing”.
Since Egypt’s birth, Alicia has been nothing short of expressive about how much she loves being a mother and how it has changed her life. She even credited her sleek new haircut to little Egypt.
“I’ve heard from a lot of new mothers that they cut their hair too. I thought I was kind of special and brave, but apparently it’s a new mother thing. I had been talking about cutting my hair for awhile and figuring out in which way it would feel right. I put out a song called ‘New Day’ that’s also on my album and I was just like, ‘You know what, it’s a new day, and I’m cutting this off.’ So I did it!”
Not even a year later, Alicia is ready to make another drastic hair change, perhaps as she preps for motherhood the second go-round. When asked in a recent interview if she’d ever shave her head, she said:
“I’m thinking about something like that. I’m telling you. I’m going there. I’m doing it.”
We’re happy motherhood has been so good — and stylistically freeing– to Alicia. She already has a mini Swizz, maybe she’ll get a mini Alicia next go round.
Check out the clip of her interview on the next page. Can you see Alicia rocking a shaved head with a baby bump?
Alicia Keys Talks Finding Her “Soulmate” In Swizz Beatz, Her Son, And Playing Lena Horne In A Biopic

WENN
With a new album on the way in November, a partnership with Reebok and a new snazzy haircut, Alicia Keys is back and in full effect. As she zips around the world campaigning for President Obama, showcasing the Reebok shoe line she helped to design, performing and taking baby Egypt Dean around with her, she found just enough time to sit down and chat with the good folks at Ebony in New York. She talked about politics, being a mother, and the love of her life, Swizz Beatz. Here are a few highlights:
When talking about finding an extra kick in her step and just being happy, Keys had to give props to her husband for helping her walk taller, a man she calls her soul mate:
“Finding my soul-mate, finding the love of my life has been a freeing experience because of the way we identify [with] each other and understand each other. It’s so rare that you feel like you can be your whole self [with someone]. I can be my whole self, he can be his whole self. I don’t have to be half of myself, he doesn’t have to be half of himself. We can just be ourselves and so that alone [is a different feeling]. He’s actually taught me so much… He has that kind of a carefree easy-going spirit that has definitely taught me to be a little bit a little more [easy-going], which is great.
Props also go to her son, Egypt. She says that watching him grow and learn has made her see things in a new light and be more appreciative of the small stuff:
“And then having a baby, it’s like ‘Oh my gosh!’ It makes every — the smallest thing amazing. Like the first time he’s discovering how to say the word ‘light.’ Like ‘light’ is the most exciting thing. (She imitates Egypt) And it’s kind of true! The light is amazing. Like, ‘Look! You turn it off and then you turn it on and it’s beautiful!’ But for (adults) things become so routine, so mundane and for him he’s discovering things for the first time so it makes me see things in a new place. So, I think all of those things together has brought me to a place that’s like just a fresh, new start. And I really like this new start.”
On top of that, Keys also touched on the longstanding rumors that she would play Lena Horne in a biopic. As biopics are all the rage to talk about in Hollywood but not come to fruition, you can’t get too excited about the idea because it might not happen. However, Alicia says to do so would be a huge honor:
“To be Lena Horne would be a great honor for me — like huge — so I really do hope that pans out.” But, she admits, “Movies are tricky. They’re tough and they take a long time to sort out and put together.”

Cute Kid Alert: Egypt Dean Rocks Shades At Fashion Week, Djimon And The Simmon Kids Shop And More!

WENN
Djimon Honsou, who has been sort of MIA as of recent, stepped out to go shopping with his kids, Ming and Aoki, and little cutie patootie Kenzo with his huge ‘fro. The three were all smiles as they picked up trinkets and hit the town together. But where is Kimora?

Swizz Beatz and his little man Egypt Dean attended the Jeremy Scott show during the end of NYC fashion week last week, and for the event, they came out shaded up and iced out (I peep little Egypt’s bracelet). Can you say cute!? But real question though: When should a baby stop using a pacifier? People are always saying Egypt’s too big for his pacifier, so when do people usually pull those things out of their kids’ mouths?
