The scariest thing about being audited is that it happens to the best of us. Not everyone who gets audited is trying to cheat on their taxes. Sometimes, they just guessed on certain things. Or put the wrong answer, thinking it was the right one. And then the IRS came knocking at their door. When preparing your taxes, take these things into consideration to minimize your risk of being audited.
Depending on who you are and what you make, you could be paying hundreds, or hundreds of thousands (or more) of dollars in taxes every year. Wouldn’t you like to know where that precious dough is going? You’ll be comforted by some of these items, and downright laughing/offended by the others.
It’s just a blip in time—a line you do or do not fill out, or a question that you answer either yes or no to—but it can cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars. I’m talking about missed deductions. Often, even if you have your taxes professionally done, your H&R (or what have you) expert doesn’t ask you questions that would save you tons of money. So, you’ve got to be prepared yourself. Be aware of these often over looked possible deductions. You probably qualify for more than you think.
