We’ve got to give props to Mona Scott-Young: she’s had us ready for this season of “Love & Hip-Hop: NY” for months.  Now that we finally know the cast, they can get fully involved in the charades and give us more to chat about.

There had been rumors flying left and right that Erica Mena and her manager/boyfriend  Rich Dollaz were suddenly engaged.  That was fairly surprising because they haven’t really been a couple very long (probably just the length of the show taping).   Well, Global Grind was able to talk to both of them the day after the screening of the premiere last week and…well, somebody is lying.  To be clear, Rich was allegedly the one who mentioned the “engagement.”

They spoke to Erica first who seemed to be caught off by it but not for the reason you may think:

“I didn’t know that we were going to tell people about it! I guess Rich decided to blurt it out. It wasn’t done intentionally. I didn’t know we were gonna announce it last night. I wasn’t expecting it. I thought we were going to keep it on the DL, but I guess he felt it was the right time.”

So that we’re on the same page, Erica says they’re engaged but thought it was going to be on the low (that should tell you something right there). But see, here’s Rich’s side of the story:

“No, I’m not! I’m not engaged. Rich Dollaz is not engaged.

What happened was, I ain’t gonna say shorty was lying or nothin’, but Erica had taken some pictures on Instagram of some wedding magazine. A girl [at the party] asked her about it and asked if she was getting married and I SARCASTICALLY said ‘Yeah, we’re getting married. Uh huh, next week we’re getting married.’ She took that, and I don’t know if the music was loud and the liquor was flowing, and she could be serious. But I was not. I was not.”

His side of the story sounds way more believable, even if he does speak in the third person in the beginning.  We know they have to keep up appearances for at least a few episodes. The “reality” is that they’ll probably be broken up by the end of the season.

Is Beyonce Prepping for Labor?

If reports prove true, we could literally just be hours away from the birth of one of Hollywood’s most anticipated babies.

According to MediaTakeOut, yesterday St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital on the Upper West Side in Manhattan was informed that an exceptionally high-profile patient was checking in to give birth. The hospital staff, of course, believes that the expectant mother is Beyoncé.

Two nurses also say the famous mommy booked an entire half of the hospital’s luxurious “labor and delivery suite,” which is where Alicia Keys gave birth to her son Egypt. That sounds very Beyonce-esque to us.

While you never know just how much truth is behind MediaTakeOut reports, Beyonce did say she was six months pregnant in the behind-the-scenes footage for the filming of “Countdown.” That would put her due date right around this time, but you know nothing is ever simple with this couple. I, for one, expect something crazy to happen, like their child being the first New Year’s Baby.

What do you think? Should we expect little baby Bey to come any minute now or are you still holding out for a February birth?

Common Opens Up On Love In JET

There is some fine manliness on the cover of JET this week. Common talks with the magazine about his new ventures and opens up about the one common denominator between his rap and acting hustle and relationships: love. Here’s what he had he to say:

On Love of the Hustle

“First and foremost, you have to have some passion behind the things you’re doing. I don’t just do things with art if I’m not motivated at all. That’s not to say that I don’t want to generate an income; yes, I want to be the highest-selling, the most profitable. But it’s the love for the art that comes first. That’s the motivation. Behind that, the rest will come.”

On Love in General

“I think the core of the human being and the heart is love, and we all want that. Love has allowed me to do the things I’m doing in life. I feel like we all deserve that — to receive love and give it, too. I think when you give that love — love of God, love of other people, self-love — you’re able to make the world better. Your days go better.”

On Being Man Enough to Talk About Love

“I have been in love, and I did get my heart broken. As an adult, I can say I’ve been through love, and [these are] some of the experiences I’ve had. Men love. Men go crazy over women. They go to prison, start wars, and lose hair over them. Don’t act like you can’t acknowledge it. It may be that you haven’t been through it, so I’m not afraid to say it.”

Common’s cover issue hit newsstands yesterday.

Are you a fan of Common? What do you think about him opening up about love?
