Victoria Jackson Says America Needs A ‘White History Month’

Victoria Jackson, former “Saturday Night Live” comedian turned ultra-conservative gadfly, delivered a rant on Thursday in which she targeted “Black History Month” and suggested that whites ought to create their own annual celebration.
“Now, that the white race is becoming a minority in America, perhaps we need to make … say, January, White History month,” she wrote on her website, according to the political blog Wonkette.

Happy Founders Day to the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.! Members of the historically black organization haves warmed the streets of the nation’s capital celebrating 100 years of sisterhood and service.
Since the sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 on the Howard University campus, it has amassed a membership of over 250,000 esteemed and accomplished women. Many of these women are trailblazers in their industry and well-known famous faces in television, film and politics.

You The Man: Obama Honors 2012 Kennedy Center Honorees

David Letterman’s “stupid human tricks” and Top 10 lists vaulted into the ranks of cultural acclaim Sunday night as the late-night comedian received this year’s Kennedy Center Honors with rock band Led Zeppelin, an actor, a ballerina and a bluesman.
Stars from New York, Hollywood and the music world joined President Barack Obama at the White House on Sunday night to salute the honorees, whose ranks also include actor Dustin Hoffman, Chicago bluesman Buddy Guy and ballerina Natalia Makarova.
The honors are the nation’s highest award for those who influenced American culture through the arts. The recipients were later saluted by fellow performers at the Kennedy Center Opera House in a show to be broadcast Dec. 26 on CBS.

Do HBCU’s Restrict Black Republican Students?

Before coming of age as a student at Hampton University, Carl Gray was a staunch, frequently lone defender of his conservative values. Ask him to recall a specific time where classmates or friends really challenged or debated him on his politics, he can’t remember one — because a teacher or administrator always got in the way to defend liberal policies and the fellow students that believed them.
“That in itself was discouraging to know that teachers and professors wouldn’t even allow for students to have their own discussions regarding political beliefs,” said Gray. “It was ‘My way or the highway’ in those classes. You either agree with the liberal philosophy or face the wrath. I often felt that I was being indoctrinated rather than taught. I actually learned more on my own, by reading both sides and making my own conclusion.”

Surviving slavery, segregation and discrimination has forged a special pride in African-Americans. Now some are saying this hard-earned pride has become prejudice in the form of blind loyalty to President Barack Obama.
Are black people supporting Obama mainly because he’s black? If race is just one factor in blacks’ support of Obama, does that make them racist? Can blacks’ support for Obama be compared with white voters who may favor his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, because he’s white?

Oh, Wow: NYPD Police Send Bill To A Man Killed

NEW YORK — New York City officials have apologized for sending a collection letter to a man who was killed by a police cruiser, billing him $710 for the damage his body did to the vehicle.
Tamon Robinson died in April during a police chase in Brooklyn. Officers had caught the 23-year-old digging up paving stones, and he was fleeing on foot when he was hit by the cruiser.

Study: Blacks Are More Exposed to Alcohol Advertising
Booze and binge drinking — it’s the stuff hip hop videos are made of, along with a disproportionate number of advertisements African-American youth are exposed to, a new study shows.
Researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health are shedding new light on a longstanding concern that alcohol marketers are honing in (and cashing in) on African-American youth and that this population is more exposed to the pervasive messages than any other group.

Not Again: Texas Woman’s Obama Sign Vandalized With Racial Slurs

A Texas woman said one of her neighbors had to inform her of removing a sign on her front lawn that was vandalized with racially insensitive and vulgar language.
According to The Raw Story , a 34-year-old Mckinney, Texas, resident named Cassy Zobel discovered that someone had covered her Obama yard sign with the words “N***** LOVER–Obama Sucks package!” on Friday morning. Although she uncovered the sign and replaced it on her lawn, it was then stolen on Sunday night.
