Standing at six feet tall, WBNA player Essence Carson carries herself with a confident aura of elegance, all the while commanding the respect that she deserves.  The 26-year-old Paterson, N.J. native has been making quite a name for herself, and not just on the court. After capping off her fourth year as a pro basketball player, Essence is now adding successful hip-hop artist and community activist to her long list of accomplishments. This year is definitely shaping up to be the “Year of Essence.”

The New York Liberty guard/forward team member first exhibited her quiet strength in the public eye as a Rutgers University student and basketball player during 2007′s controversial season. That year, radio personality Don Imus took to the airwaves to verbally lash out at the Rutgers University women’s basketball team with a slew of racial and derogatory terms, most famously calling the team “nappy-headed hos.” Although at the time Essence was generally soft-spoken and quiet, Rutgers women’s basketball coach Vivian Stringer knew of Carson’s writing skills, and had faith in her ability to communicate the feelings of the team to the rest of the world.

Stringer’s decision proved to be a great one, and Carson was able to gracefully explain the outrage of her team members as well as condemn Imus’ actions, leading the radio host to be suspended from the airwaves shortly after the incident. She recalls the situation as a lesson in her own strength, which helped give her the confidence to express herself to her community and the public: “If I hadn’t gone through that experience I wouldn’t be able to pursue music and perform today.” Carson says.

Today Essence is a franchise player for the WBNA with the New York Liberty, and is continuing her success with pursuing one of her childhood dreams of a music career as a hip-hop artist.

Evening Eye Candy: Serge Ibaka

Allegedly, Serge Ibaka, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo if you were wondering, plays a mighty nice game of basketball as a power forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder. But I can’t really attest to that because when I see the man on television, I’m usually paying more attention to his looks as opposed to his athletic capabilities (What? I’m just keeping it real). If you’ve ever seen Ibaka, I’m sure you would agree with me, because he’s clearly a smooth and delicious piece of chocolate. But if you haven’t, it’s about time you get acquainted with 6’10″ stunner. Here’s your chance!

Allen Iverson To Police “I Make More Money Than You Will in 10 Years”

"allen iverson"By B. Hutson

It looks like Allen Iverson was feeling himself a little too much; so much in fact that he had no problem putting a police officer in check.  The former NBA superstar, who currently plays in the Turkish Basketball League for the Beşiktaş, was pulled over by Atlanta police in a car that he was riding in last week for a traffic violation.

The car, a grey Lamborghini that was driven by Antwuan Clisby, was stopped for changing lanes without signaling. Clisby couldn’t produce any documentation for the vehicle, which the officer found belonged to Iverson when he scanned the identification number of the vehicle. The tags for the car expired in 2009. Clisby told the officer his passenger needed to leave the vehicle to eat dinner. When the officer said no one was permitted to leave until his investigation was complete, Iverson berated the officer, according to CNN.

“I’m the (expletive) passenger,” he said.

In the middle of his explicit-filled tirade against the officer, Iverson made it plain that he was unfazed when he was told that the car would be towed.

“Take the vehicle, I have 10 more,” he said. “Police don’t have anything else (expletive) to do except (expletive) with me. Do you know who I am?”

According to the officer’s report, Iverson carried on for the next 20 minutes about who he was. The officer replied, “It really doesn’t matter who you are. You tried to conceal your vehicle with a fake drive-out tag due to you not paying for your tags.”

In response, Iverson scuffed, “I make more money than you will in 10 years.”

But apparently, seeing his vehicle told made him have a change of heart. He later “came back and apologized for disrespecting the police,” according to the police report. “He stated he was just upset about his car.”

(Yahoo.com) — Eddy Curry(notes) made a shade over $10 million this year as a member of the New York Knicks. Despite that enormous salary — and the fact that Curry has made more than $57 million in his nine-year career — the former No. 4 draft pick is seriously in debt. As the Associated Press reports, Curry defaulted on a $575,000 loan with an 85 percent interest rate, which can only happen in Nevada, and has been ordered to pay back $1.2 million to Allstar Capital Inc., the world’s most ironic loan service.
