After the failed Nina Simone biopic Nina starring Zoe Saldana and an Academy-Award nominated documentary on the singer’s life in What Happened, Miss Simone?, the idea of bringing Simone’s story to the screen yet again might seem somewhat unnecessary. But now that Michaela Coel is on the scene, people think she would be the perfect actress to portray Simone.

The Chewing Gum creator, writer and star also acknowledges that for years she’s known that she resembles the music legend and the resemblance, even for her, is uncanny at times.

She would likely be one of the best people to play Nina based on looks alone, but Coel may be too busy for the task what with all the success of Chewing Gum, which returns with Season 2 in the UK next Friday. In an interview with The Mary Suethe BAFTA award-winner admitted that her life has become more hectic since the success of the the show, especially after it was brought to Netflix.

“Maybe I can’t always go everywhere that I wanted to go,” Coel said. “If I go into a café, it might be a different experience than it would have been a year-and-a-half ago. It means that I work more, and I don’t have as much time for friends as I used to.”

Still, Coel told the publication that such changes are a blessing.

“In the beginning, when it first went out on Netflix, I was able to keep up with tweets, and I received tweets in all different languages, saying really positive things about the show, and the fact that there was a weird, quirky person that girls can identify with,” she said. “But now it has gone so big that I can’t actually keep track of anything on Twitter anymore. But I recognize that that is a good thing.”
