Cory Hardrict Says He Was Broke When He Met Tia: “I Was Waiting On A Bus Stop”

February 18, 2015  |

Actress Tia Mowry frequently discusses her family, but we rarely hear from her husband, Cory Hadrict. However, while promoting his new film, American Sniper, the actor stopped by to visit Global Grind’s Blogxilla. During their chat, he revealed that he was broke when he met his wife and praised his wife for her ability to see beyond his circumstances at the time.

“I had odd jobs. I worked at K-Mart, graveyard shift, security. That’s when I was just grinding man. I met my wife during them days. She was with me. She was just coming out of “Sister, Sister,” but they had everything man and I didn’t have anything. I had a studio apartment, sleeping in the corner, no furniture for almost two years.”

Of course, we love to hear the adorable stories of how couples met. For Cory and Tia, the lovebirds crossed paths while he was standing at a bus stop one day.

“I was waiting on a bus stop—after I shot my first film. Her sister and her drove by, they saw me waiting and asked to give me a ride. I was embarrassed. I was downtown. They gave me a ride and we were friends ever since. They took me to Inglewood, so that’s how that relationship started. We were friends, we started dating and it just went from there.”

He went on to reflect on his wife’s ability to look beyond his situation at the time and see his potential.

“I think it was what my wife saw in me. She saw an honest man who had a dream. I just had a vision, man. I didn’t come in selling no games,” the actor explained. “I feel like a man can just hold his own and be a man. I don’t have to play no games with nobody and she respected that and it was what it was.”

Love this!

beautiful story sadly these situations rarely happen anymore. A lot of men would have tried to use Tia and mooch off of her money instead of work hard towards their dreams.

  • aliciatee

Yaaaaassssss. I <3 black men who have the mindset of a MAN regardless of the circumstances. Love this

  • Linda

    Love both of them!

  • Notforme

He now needs to get an education. His grammar is disgusting. I would be embarrassed.

  • lilkunta

this is wonderful. i am happy for tia and cory.

  • peace

They found love. I’m just wondering if it was on a two way street.

  • Ana

Great to hear a man that owns his truth and honesty! Tia an amazing woman! Congrats for finding each other and believe in each other…. You got to believe together….
The sky is the limit after that!

  • Ang

Yea but Tia said on her reality show that she was in college when she met Corey and that he’s the only man she ever dated. Most people in college/college are broke. The only reason Tia and Tamara werent broke are that age is because they were child stars. It would be different if they were in their 30s when they met. But still nice that a celebrity was cool with dating a normal guy trying to make it.

  • UdonNo

NICE, BUT LETS BE CLEAR THIS IS A *** RARE ISOLATED EVENT*** we all know sisters with money (or no money) today will never ever-ever never– entertain a broke ngga at the bus stop. This is more likely to happen with a white girl . So lets take this as a freak accident. Ok back to trolling.

    • Guestest

      Go back to WorldStar, troll.

  • Prr Kitty

Love this story, but wasnt this an episode of sister sister?

  • Damon Tarklin

FYI, he was on an episode of Smart Guy. So that means he met Tia’s brother Tahj before he met her.

  • speaksthetruth

I love the fact that he remembered where she found him. Too many men know forget where they picked you up from and think they are now better than you.

  • Trini_Angel

Damn! How often can u get this honesty from men? Rare! This is love!

  • Aaliyah Noelle

Aaaaaaawwwwee I’ve always loved Tia ! She seems so humble and down to earth.
SN: I thought her guy was a bball player lol

  • Guestest

Beautiful story. I wish him and Tia nothing but the best! I love those twins. You can tell that they are just good people.

  • lillyblu1

Money does not make the man.We live in a greedy society.

  • I_am_a_Gladiator/Scandalista

They are just so garsh darn cute!

  • ettahall@gmail

i love this , congrats to the both of them.

  • Bri.

I love this story I know people are sayin they werent strangers, but they werent close friends or nothin like that. As far as love is concerned , what she seen him at the bus stop and just to decided to just wave or not say anything to him. Or not give him a ride. They would have never became good friends and gotten married. I think that is the nice thing about the story, just taking a chance to be even nice to someone who you might be familiar with it turned out good. Of course he wasnt a complete stranger but they were by NO means very well aquainted. Giving him that ride was the start to them becoming friends and really getting to know one another

Amazing…it’s refreshing when your partner genuinely believes in you.

great story, now thats what i relationship/friendship is all about

  • I was broke and working temporary jobs when I first met my wife of 30 years. Great story y’all if you read between the line Tia is a smart wise women “I was waiting at the bus stop after I shot my first film” I bet somehow tia knew this and saw potential in this man, she saw a potential mate in this man although he was broke at the time, she saw something in him that’s the strength and ability of a well-trained smart well balance women that’s why she and her
sister stop and offered him a ride it was no accident, sisters Tia and her sister was not two stupid girl stopping and offering random guy a ride just to hook up with them and just got lucky this was a plan she already knew something about him but he probably didn’t know she already knew. Now if he mess this up he won’t have any good luck.

  • fancypants127

I love this! When I met my husband he made less than me and is younger than me, both things that I thought I never wanted. But I saw that he was a hard worker with a great head on his shoulders and took a chance on him. Now he’s well on his way to making more than double what I make, spoils me, is a wonderful provider and an all around great man. I am soo glad I didn’t let my hangups cause me to miss out on my best friend and the love of my life.

  • ShyyNicole

I just LIVE lol love them together

  • Lilacbenson

Much respect to Tia and him for not making her regret her choice.

  • Trillary Banks

Wow…..the ironic thing to me is that was very similar to her character situation on Sister, Sister. When Tia met Tyreke and how they came from different backgrounds. Also what I love about their story not every guy waiting on the bus and working at Walmart is a loser not worth a time of day. Some are really putting their pride to the side and being a real man. Very rare these days.

    • LogicalLeopard

If he pays bills, respect him. Even if he can’t pay all of them, if he’s trying his hardest, respect the effort. I don’t know why people disrespect people who work in low paying jobs anyway. They work harder than I do

      • ettahall@gmail

when God comes in your life you will, love is the gift for your sister and brother. now he makes more money than you

        • LogicalLeopard

God has already come into my life! I think you misunderstood me. I was saying that I don’t understand why people disrespect people who work in lower paying jobs. If you work hard, you should be entitled to respect, no matter what your paycheck looks like. Many people who make more, work less hard. And like you pointed out, the person who made less can someday end up making more than you. As the bible says, despise not the day of small beginnings….

          • roxy

I don’t think she was talking directly to you, but adding to the conversation. Sounds as if she was making a general remark. That’s the way I’m reading it, I could be wrong though. 😉

            • LogicalLeopard

No problem, I could be wrong too! I hadn’t looked at it that way. Makes MUCH more sense! Thanks a lot!

We ALL need THOSE people in those low paying jobs!!! EXPLAINS why MOST of these woman are single!! They would rather CUFF a Niqqa with rims, loud music and gold teeth than a guy with a STEADY pay check, working odd jobs to make his DREAM come true!

        • LogicalLeopard

I’m not going to brand most women like that, but you’re right, there are a lot of them who are settling for flash and the appearance of wealth with no steady income, or holding out for a massive income instead of dating someone who is working at low paying jobs.

    • Notforme

Most of them are losers. Working at K-mart at that age is a loser. He found a girl who had money and helped him.

      • Dominique Thompson

At what age? This was 15 years ago. It’s not like this happened in his 30s.

  • slim pickings for a sista

She’s not the only black woman that settle. There’s plenty of us that do the same thing.

    • Guest

Geez! Whadyouhave to turn a beautiful story into that?!?!

    • NewYorkBunny

Settle? Because he wasn’t bling blinging she settled? That’s….. low. So I guess when a man wifes a woman who makes less than him, he settled? No, right? Why can’t women love who they love? Why must our partners be held to the standards of others?

  • DCguy0101

Wow aint that something… I have much respect for Tia for that… thats what I call a real woman!! Ask the majority of black women nowadays if they would assist a man at a bus stop and offer a ride……the answer would be h*ll no!! they would more than likely laugh at the guy standing at the bus stop..

    • Kylie

And you think that white or nonblack women would answer yes? I dont think most women would, so do not turn this into opportunity to bash black women.

      • UdonNo

If it was a good neighborhood and the dude was handsome- I would see a white girl doing it.

        • CaribbeanGlow

If it was a good neighborhood and the dude was handsome- I could see any race of girl doing it. It’s just not safe to do this though, regardless of the race of either party. Someone said they knew him at least by seeing him, as they were all working on a movie, and had just gotten off set.

          • UdonNo

why are people afraid that there are cultural and sociological differences between black and white women? we all know a black women would never approach a strange man at a bus stop no matter what. and theres nothing wrong with that..stop being defensive.

            • CaribbeanGlow

I wasn’t the least bit defensive, and no one in their right mind would deduce that from my comment. You are really delusional if you think that more white women would pick up a strange black man at a bus stop, than black women would. LOL

            • Notforme

You are such a total idiot.

              • UdonNo

Name calling is the always the first recourse of the Ignorant and out-matched.

            • Moni

I’ve picked up a stranger carrying a lot of groceries and gave HIM a ride home…..I just have a heart for people. Oh and I’m a black woman.

    • Notreally

To laugh at a person’s situation without knowing the back story is just hateful. Please stop putting a majority of an entire race of women in a bad light. Like lord, What did black women do to you? Seriously.

Also I would not have offered him a ride. Not because I’m one of those black women you’re attemptig to portray but rather because I’m a woman and people are crazy.

      • ettahall@gmail

but God bless her . good for her never no where you blessing will come from and sister was with her , they became friends first

        • UdonNo

it was the white in her that compelled her to do it. hahaha

      • But the thing is she already knew him, she observe him working on his film and saw that he had potential, this was no accident she was a smart and wise women who knew this man was husband material and saw that he was catching the bus so she and her sister intentionally drove by the bus stop and offer him a ride much like a smart man would do to get next to a pretty women.

        • RJ

Exactly! When I met my husband he had nothing but potential but more of a chance to make something of himself than the average joe blow. Tia is not dumb at all.

          • right on, you got that right Tia is a very smart and wise women and knew what she wanted and needed in a man and like all wise women once she saw it she went after it in a intelligent way, SHE DID NOT PICK UP SOME RAMDOM GUY STANDING AT THE BUS STOP AND GOT LUCKY, take heed sister and learn!

    • Raze

Because of course you know every single black woman in existence of mankind and how they would react.
Because of course every single black woman is supposed to pick up strange men and hitch them a ride, simply because those men are taking the bus.

    • guest

      Stop, please.

    • yep but he was no random regular guy standing at the bus stop and somehow Tia knew it!

  • Dee

He was standing at the bus stop sucking on a lollipop!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t help myself!!!!!!! But I don’t know about picking up strangers up at bus stops or anywhere else for that matter. God himself must have told them to do that & they listened. Congrats to them both.

    • Lelee

He was not a stranger to them. They were working on a small movie together and were on their way home when they noticed that Cory was taking the bus. They gave him a ride.

      • Tudbee

Thanks for clarifying because I also thought there’s no way I’m picking up a stranger.

        • UdonNo

YES WE KNOW A SISTA WOULD NEVER EVER PICK UP A NGGA at a bus stop. this is a white girl fantasy.

          • Britney Robinson

They are half white via dad.

            • UdonNo

              ahhh i knew it!

          • Notforme

You’re just showing how stupid and racist you are. I love how people don’t get that when they say sh!t.

            • UdonNo

why whites always calling somebody racist when its a fact…white girls are more liberal.

      • Camille

I wonder why the author of the article didn’t note that. Author makes it seem like they were complete strangers. Now that makes more sense.

        • Notforme

Most articles are not true, especially the news. They always get the facts wrong.

      • maria maria

oh ok I missed that part to
