Coupons Anyone? Celebrity Couples Who Live Surprisingly Modest Lives

July 23, 2014  |
2 of 16

The saying “live below your means” doesn’t only apply to “normal” people—even celebrities do it from time to time. Here are 15 celebrity couples who live surprisingly modest for their bank accounts.

Joseph Marzullo/

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

Even though Parker’s character on “Sex and the City” might struggle to save money after too much shoe shopping, in real life, she and her husband Broderick say they only put their kids in hand-me-down clothing.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Toni Garrn

Actor DiCaprio and model Garrn have been spotted flying commercial flights, rather than the private jets most celebrities prefer. Plus, DiCaprio drives a hybrid!

Kate Middleton and Prince William

While this royal couple could have someone do everything for them, they actually do their own grocery shopping! And Middleton refuses to have a stylist, choosing rather to do her own shopping at regular stores, and even re-wearing outfits!

Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum

Foo Fighters front man Grohl and his wife Blum live in a rather normal house in Encino, California—not even opting for Beverly Hills or Hollywood as many other California stars do—and Grohl says they rarely spend money.

Judy Eddy/

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell

The star of “Frozen” and her funny husband have admitted their courthouse wedding cost them only $142. Plus, Bell admits to using lots of coupons when shopping.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr.

Buffy slays much more than vampires—she slays prices! Gellar admits to bringing her own bags to grocery stores, using dry cleaning coupons, and going to department stores on rewards days.

Jay Leno and Mavis Leno

If you think the Lenos are rolling in dough, you’re wrong—Leno put almost all the money he made from the “Tonight Show” into a bank and he and his wife live almost solely off the money he makes doing standup.

Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell

Stella McCartney, the daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney, has said that her father was always very frugal when it came to spending money, even making her choose a state school to get a lower tuition.

Alberto Reyes/

Lauren Conrad and William Tell

The star of “The Hills” and her law school boyfriend both live in Conrad’s modest condominium in Westwood, California. To give you an idea of how modest the area is, it’s made up mostly of college housing for University of California Los Angeles.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick

We wouldn’t be fooling anyone if we said these reality stars lived modest lives, but there is one surprising element of it—Kourtney is addicted to couponing! She has a whole binder full of coupons that she brings along whenever she shops.

Vincent Kartheiser and Alexis Bledel

The “Mad Men” star and his fiancé, “Gilmore Girls” star Bledel are living in what was once Kartheiser’s tiny one bedroom apartment. The two have opened up the space and renovated since getting together, but it’s still no mansion!

Credit: Dan Jackman/

Meredith Vieira and Richard Cohen

The original “The View” moderator and her news producer husband Cohen live in a humble 3-bedroom house in Los Angeles, California, estimated at just over $1 million. They can afford much more.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott

Today the reality stars don’t exactly live modestly in their Thousand Oaks, California mansion, but for several years the two lived in a small 2-bedroom bungalow by the beach, estimated at just around $2 million.

Nick Stern/

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan

The founder of Facebook is almost always spotted wearing jeans, hoodies and sandals. He and his wife Chan had a tiny wedding in Zuckerberg’s backyard, and are often spotted out and about eating at fast food chains.

Anthony Dixon/

Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann

The two “Law and Order” stars try to be good financial role models to their children and say they don’t live as if they have a lot of money. They put most of their money into savings for the future rather than spend it on a lavish lifestyle.

Please understand that most of what you see and read here is under investigation almost as soon as you make your post. Remember the secret word is DRAWKCAB and this will explain what most people are who post here. It takes one to know one.

  • Bud

Hollywood is full of, I was a Star, but now I park cars. Therefore save your money because no one want to return to handing out burgers at McD

  • Marla

It is one thing to live modestly when you choose to do so, but in reality have plenty of money. It is quite another to live modestly because you have no other choice. If they were living modestly because they donated a lot of their money to benefit those genuinely in need in the world, that would be a totally different thing!

  • It’s great to see people who earn money, keep it. I call BS on Jay Leno though. He has a tremendous auto and motorcycle collection.

  • doug

Jay has like a huge garage with like 50 classic cars! his bill to maintain those alone is probably higher than most peoples yearly income. c’mon be serious!

  • Jo Anne Johnson

I wouldn’t exactly call living in a 1 or 2 million dollar home frugal!!

  • duane

Ok jay leno has a 130 car garage that is filled with very expensive and collectible cars. That isnt living modestly. What a stupid article with no research. Question is why am I wasting time here?

  • Gav Danyel

Jay Leno has the largest private collection of exotic cars in the USA – how is this frugal????

  • khantot

    Ckufin Jews!

  • theres nothing wqrong with saving money and living normal, as a matter of fact its probably the best way to live if you ask me

  • Paul Corley

What’s wrong with you people, can’t we all just get on with each other and live happily together and stop all this bitching about this and that……Chill out a bit and try to understand each other, be friends, life is too short for all this crap…

  • dabba

What a completely bogus article. Just because these people aren’t burning through every penny they make is not the same as living modestly.

  • Mercedes Man

Jay Leno lives below his means??? seriously? have you seen the fuckers garage? what utter shite.

  • Arsenal1Again

I saw Jay Leno’s massive private garage filled with exotic super cars averaging 3 million a piece.

  • Γιώργος Κλούνεϊς

You can’t call modest and humble a 1m house.Yes for them maybe it is but then again 1m$ is hell lots of money.

  • Wolfie

I call “bullshit” on most of these.

  • Ezra Graves

DiCaprio wears a $600,000 watch… while flying commercial.

  • Donna Brown

Somehow I doubt the veracity of this article. I have seen Jay Leno’s house, and it is ridiculous. He has a whole separate wing for his multimillion dollar automobile collection!

  • Norman Walker

Kourtney is addicted to couponing! She has a whole binder full of coupons that she ”brings” along whenever she shops….no…she ”takes along ”..hate the misuse of ‘bring’ when it should be ‘take’

  • PeaceCorps1

Zina Garrison and Tyra Banks are single but they say all the time how frugal they are. So, this article should be about all stars not just married ones.

  • Reza

Jay Leno lives under his mean? Are you F–ing kidding me? Have you seen his garage? He owns 84 cars… some of them worth millions..

  • Wilson Ramirez

I don’t think Leno should be classified as living modestly. I mean have you seen how many cars he owns? Not that there is anything wrong with that. I appreciate a great car. But not just anyone can afford the cars he owns.

  • Scales7

Nice responsible people. May God Bless them.

  • R B

Oh.. ooookaaaayyy…. Just because these actors did ONE thing frugal doesn’t mean they live modest lives. Unless modest living includes $,1000 dinners, $10k wardrobes, $5M homes, $100k vacations….

  • Penelope Pitstop

Scott and Kourtney … yeah, right. This list is full of bull.

  • Penelope Pitstop

Leno – really? Have you seen all the cars he owns?

  • Trudy ‘Mtram’ Rozani

Yes! Hold onto that rich man of yours, Priscilla! lol

  • Lee Turiano

Umm…did Leno forget he’s spent millions on his vintage car collection? Not giving him a hard time, but when you have a collection like that, that kinda counts. lol

  • Classic

Have you seen the rent on those 1-2 bdrm apartments? Hardly modest.

  • jackedup

The same DeCaprio that rented a $400K per week super-yacht last summer? The royals? Frugal? Really? Now don’t get me wrong, I love Jay Leno as a person but do we all have 200+ cars in our garage? Is this a joke?

  • Pickel Juavez

Umm, Di Caprio is known for flying excessively and ONLY takes commercial flights to airports that do not allow private aircraft… and really, a hybrid makes him frugal?!?! The 10 year ownership WITH the government bribe to buy one only makes it financially EQUAL to just buying gas with a regular vehicle. Di Caprio is actually know for lavish living. This article is clearly just hopes about this authors favorite celebrities.

  • Killashandra

You lost me at Jay Leno. I have seen his garage – it’s the size of a car lot. I have also seen several of his cars in person. I have also seen photos of his mansion. If that’s a modest lifestyle, the author of this article must be the Sultan of Burnai. 🙂

  • RIGHTway

I’d rather see them spending. It doesn’t do our economy any good when their money just sits in the bank.

  • Jetthroe

Jay Leno spends all his money on an eclectic mix of cars good on him if he can afford to indulge himself in a little luxury in things he enjoys

  • Justa Rider

Tight !!!! low contributors …should be taxed more or encouraged to spend more to help keep economy rolling along

  • Norman Walker

“Gellar admits to’ bringing’ her own bags to grocery stores”…nooooo…she TAKES her bags to the store….horrible Americanism..

  • David Lister

“If you think the Lenos are rolling in dough, you’re wrong”
Should that really be ‘Jay INVESTS most of the money’?
Anyone who has seen his, I was going to say ‘extensive’ but I think i’ll instead say BLOODY HUGE collection of cars knows this guy is ROLLING IN IT!

  • David Lister

What was the last thing Buffy was in?
Is it more a case of ‘needs must’?

  • jules

SJP and M. Broderick’s NYC condo is on sale now for 20million….modest?? not so sure!

  • christine

Jay Leno IS rolling in money. This is such a stupid article. putting money in the bank and supposedly not using it doesn’t change the fact that they are very rich …. not to mention he is a car collecting addict and owns over 30 cars. such hype

  • Ann Onymous

I reckon their friends/nearest/dearest will be quite rich too, therefore, their children should be getting some really expensive hand-me-downs.

  • me

Complete horseshit! Leno has one of the worlds most valuable collections of rare and exotic cars. Top notch researching there…

  • ShirlSumm

I wonder what charity the Leno’s will be leaving their fortune to?

  • Steve Pickering

Just look after your money you don’t have to spend all the time, why have a 10 bedroom house with only 2 people in it ???? stupid.

  • Eguth3

    Couldn’t they just be cheap?

  • Kiboko

‘…even making her choose a state school to get a lower tuition’

I’m not a fan on McCartney, but there are no UK state schools where you receive ‘lower tuition’. There are no tuition fees at state schools at all. At the moment, you can receive free education up to the age of 18, and tuition fees are payable after that. The McCartneys also lived in a small, three-bedroomed, terraced house, apparently. I don’t know if this was simply to save money, but I read it was because the McCartneys wanted their children to have a ‘normal’ upbringing and not as the children of celebrities.

  • Kardash Eddy

I feel my brains being sucked out just reading this, so a modest life means you drive a hybrid while pulling up to a 5million dollar mansion? OMG a modest life is doing shopping wow, then of course living in that castle is real modest. Who wrote this crap I just got that far, and if i go any further my IQ will drop to 50 like the person that wrote this crap.

  • bob

The majority of these celebrities no no other way of making money, so they save in fear they will not have enough tomorrow. Money problems are money problems regardless of what you make. It’s not a good thing someone who makes a lot saves it all and doesn’t re-invest in ways that create or bring more economic value to others, it actually makes inequality worse. Financial education is needed.

  • Olibo

I read a lot of stories that Paul Mccartney is a miser.

  • MD92468

C’mon, Jay Leno famously garages 200 cars worth almost $100M…

  • pale purple

Are you kidding me? Sarah Jessica Parker owns a brownstone in one of the most expensive real estate districts on the planet. Dicaprio is famous for taking private yacht vacations with his friends. Prince William and Kate spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their honeymoon. Jay Leno has a collection of classic cars worth multiple millions of dollars. Tori Spelling is the queen of excess. If she ever lived ‘modestly’ it’s only during times when she wasn’t working. She regular spends $20,000 to $30,000 on her children’s birthday parties! Whoever is writing this crap has a warped sense of living modestly. Go talk to some people who make minimum wage or less and ask them what living modestly actually means!

  • Davis Newman

I guess Jay Leno lives modestly so he can afford his 130 car garage and multi-million dollar car collection;-)

  • Argle-Bargle

While I loved the premise of this linkbait, it lost all credibility at Jay Leno. Jay Leno! Famous for his mania for collecting cars; his vehicle collection at times has been reported to comprise between roughly 300 to 800 vehicles worth many many millions. The fact that he is wealthy enough to bank the money he earns from the Tonight Show hardly makes him a person living modestly. Besides his car collection, he lives in Beverly Hills in a property worth millions of its own right.

  • Rovsky

    what a load of baloney
Jay Leno…modest living…aeroplane hanger for all his cars
Dave Grohl…modest living…flys about to places in his own private jet
    Another poorly researched article

  • SD Atkins

“Stella McCartney (…) making her choose a state school to get a ***lower*** tuition.”

    Offensive Much?

  • Pingback: These 7 Unsolved Mysteries Will Leave You Terrified (And Scratching Your Head) | Iviral()

  • Croessus

Jay Leno has a car collection woth more than $100 million. THAT’s living modestly?

  • blahblah

Uh, Jay Leno lives cheap? What about all those cars he owns?

  • BlackWolf

What a crock with Jay Leno!!!! what about his multi million pound car collection?

  • rosewater49

Wow! Leonardo flies commercial (bet he flies first Class) instead of private jets!!! He drives a hybrid!! Where are the awards? I know how difficult it is for me to fly commercial economy and the only thing keeping me from flying first class and especially private is my lack of FUNDS!! I also can’t afford most of the hybrids so I drive a gas guzzler (I wouldn’t drive a hybrid anyway because I would feel like a puss).

  • Hank

Westwood has some very expensive buildings – it is not just UCLA apartments FYI. Also, Scott Dissick does not live frugally – just because his dumb girlfriends started using coupons for a storyline on an episode of their fake show. Also, have you seen Leno’s car and bike collection? Just because he puts his late night salary in the bank doesn’t mean he doesn’t make a ton doing stand up. This article is stupid.

  • Adam Pickett

OK, Jay Leno has like a million cars. This list is stupid.

  • fed up

This article completely misses one very important point…. KourtneyTrashtrashian and Scott Disik are not celebrities. They have done nothing to be celebrities for. America, stop making stupid people famous!

  • Skye Belle Matilda Brand

The problem I have with wealthy people shopping in thrift stores is that the people who genuinely can’t afford anything BUT thrift store clothing miss out on the nice stuff because these people nab it. They probably have deals with the charities that run these places so they can get the fancy stuff!

  • BarttheCat

    Meredith Vieira
Meredith Viera and Richard Coen may have a modest house in LA, but they have a very large mansion in Irvington, NY.

  • BarttheCat

Jay Leno does not live simply with a collection of 100’s of collectible cars and a full time staff to work on them!

  • Max51

You guys do know that this is just a pathetic propaganda tool? Perhaps the author would like to explain why the frugal, Smart-Car driving DiCaprio thinks nothing of causing 50,000 dollars worth of damages to his hotel room in Cannes?

  • desertpatriot

‘Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’

    she looks like his mother

  • Kristy Elizabeth

Couldn’t get past page 4, the ads are obnoxious!

  • nnn22

this is a horribly inaccurate article, SJP and husband’s apartment in NY is worth 25 million and I don’t think hosting dinner for the president shows living modestly

  • Mark Hayward

Lenos car collection must be worth Millions …

  • Lilpup

Wait a minute, are you telling me willy and waity live modestly? do you know the number of kitchens she has?? better do your research

  • Valewood

That’s a crock o’ shyte about Di Caprio. Friggin’ green hypocrite. He’s always renting massive carbon-spewing yachts in the Mediterranean to party on with him and his friends. And how the heII does he get there? Parasail?

    • Valewood

And Jay Leno? How many classic cars and sports cars does this guy own??? 130 cars and 93 motorcycles. And he lives a modest life? Give me a frickin’ break.

  • Fred

when Titanic was out, I was on a flight from Baltimore to toronto, DiCaprio was in first class

  • Mudhar Hadi

I don’t know what modestly means on your planet; but spending £1 million on decorating the palace where you live & then not liking it; only to have it redecorated at a cost of another £1 million, just misses that mark of living a modest life… And I’m not gonna mention the nannies, the butlers, the servant, the protection details, the palaces and the non-stop holidaying & jetsetting…

  • chuck

Along with his 1000 car collection. Now that’s modest.

  • tuffone3

This is bogus. I saw the mansion Leno built for all his cars. The floors sparkled. He must have two dozen old cars and they are probably worth millions. As for SJP, I doubt SHE wears hand me downs.

  • honigs

    who cares

  • Sparkky

This article is ridiculous, taking one thing about a couple to say they live modestly is a joke. For example, Jay Leno has a several hundred million dollar car collection that he keeps in an enormous wherehouse/garage. They live “solely” off of his $20 million stand-up comic income? How frugal and down-to-earth!

  • not coming back

Wow, what a horrible web site. Will not visit again. Ads on every second picture! Pathetic.

  • m

why would l expect Lauren Conrad and her school attending bf to be living any other way?…

  • Abilonia

Hey, save your breath! You can never reason with a group of baboons who’s average IQ is 85! 70 is legally retarded! They are all on welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, Obamacare and 90% can’t speak English! Only Ebonic ghetto trash talk.. Get over it, as long as they live on this planet White folks will have to take care of them or they will die of exposer and starvation. ( But they do have some nice hats, shiney shoes and suits when they stand around street corners on Saturday nights.)

  • brNdon

It’s because once you are rich, people give you stuff for free.

  • DaylightAmy

Buying second hand baby clothes and taking a commercial flight (First Class no doubt) instead of a private jet is not modest I would say. Giving away everything you don’t need when you’re a millionaire is modest. Not going on a borderline-psychotic spending spree is just emotionally functional.

  • Benjamin Spaethe

Paul McCartney’s daughter went to a state school because she didn’t get accepted to a fancy private one…not because her Dad wouldn’t pay for a private school. That’s probably the real truth

  • Bill Brunett

Right, Prince William and his wife live modestly in KENSINGTON PALACE which was recently renovated for 7.6 million dollars; I know it must be a struggle for them. Leno and his wife only living on his standup comedy money, must be hard to keep the budget on the lowly $20 mil he is estimate to make on standup yearly. I guess if the 20 mil per year runs out, he can sell a dozen cars or so out of his massive collection of classic cars. This list is obviously flawed.

  • Jill

Sarah Jessica Parker lives in a 10 million dollar townhouse in New York, and a 5 million dollar home in the Hamptons. Why are you trying to make us think this is modest?

  • OMG you race baiters are f’d up. Both sides. That goes for the Limbaugh/Buchanan and Sharpton/Jackson sides.

Anyway, on to the story. Jay Leno does not live modestly. Ever see his garage full of exotic cars?

  • Jennifer Hawes

Was loving this. Making me feel great. They only put their kids in hand me downs? Love that. It’s what we do. HOWEVER. Merideth Vieira lives in a “modest” three bedroom home, which “only” costs 1 million dollars. That’s not being thrifty, that’s not really living below your means, that’s practicing common sense with your money. I wish I could have a modest house that cost only $1million!

  • Electric_Banana

Jay Leno? I wouldn’t call the amount of money he spends on cars modest.

  • tomasiepants

Leo drives a hybrid. BFD. Is it the Porsche Cayenne hybrid? Cause that’s 70 grand.

  • Louna_UK

Kate Middleton and Prince William? Excuse me but they have all given on a “golden plates” 24/7 they may not splash cash on one off gold porshe but they are far from modest

  • Philip M

There is student housing in Westwood, but Westwood is a decidedly upscale neighborhood situated right in between some of the most expensive areas in the U.S., Bel Air and Beverly Hills. The average house price in Westwood is $1.85 million.

  • Old Guy

I stopped at DiCaprio. Does he still own the island near Belize? The five homes (one with an indoor rollercoaster)? Does he still say he won’t fly on private jets (while he does – check the World Cup and other events). A $100K hybrid? The 400+ foot yacht at the World Cup? So much more.

    That’s a modest life?

  • Rodney S

Live nodestly? Haha! You’ve got to be kidding me. Jay Leno has a 100 million dollar car collection. Most of the other celebs have homes all over the world. These people don’t even wear their socks twice. lol

  • Gavin

Riiiight, so Jay Leno’s 150 cars and motorcycles is MODEST?

  • Katopotato00

How does Jay Leno make this list when it is documented that he owns over 200 cars & motorcycles??? Most of us don’t consider that to be ‘surprisingly modest’…

  • Samantha Baker

Doesn’t Jay Leno own dozens of cars? I wonder what living modestly means to the author of this article?!

  • Goodall Lesley

Jessica Parker’s children live modest lives then?!!

  • Bobby

    No Fred & Wilma Flintstone?

  • Taximan72

Jay Leno? All those vehicles? Hardly modest!

  • this one is for sure baloney : jay leno has an EXTENSIVE car collection . hardly the lifestyle you’re describing

  • Pingback: James Bond movie Spectre | StubbsyDotCom()

  • Truro Wolf

    “Modestly”, by who’s standards???

  • While I applaud them all….Dax Shepard should at least spend some money on a good tailor. His outfit in this picture is terrible….he should have some pride and at least hem his pants properly. He could do it himself if he wanted to save the $15!!

  • TheCarMan

Have they no knowledge of “Jay Leno’s Garage” on YouTube? If that’s living a modest life, I’ll take that any day to the Queen of England — er, king in my case. Anyway, he’s a very generous and great guy (from what’s out there), but lives modestly? That’s a joke even Leno can’t top.

  • Bahador Alast

And this is why you should double check everything you hear and read!

The fact that Jay Leno is included on this list, either means whoever wrote the article has no ideas what “living modestly” means, or hasn’t bothered looking into the fact that Leno owns over 280 vehicles. Look up the website called “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which contains video clips and photos of his collection! Oh yes, incredibly modest man doing everything in his power to help a world in dire need!

  • Mary Ann Mancini

whomever researched this – give me a break Leno living modestly !!?? what about the car collection and full time restorer for these cars .. he spends millions

  • Knapper

Please define “modest”. Jay Leno owns a fleet of cars.

  • kevinmorice

What a lot of nonsense. Leno has a classic car collection better than any motor museum. McCartney owns an island!

  • JBlair

Jay Leno owns, like, 60 very expensive, rare cars and motorcycles… He’s hardly living on a budget.

  • MatrixDweller

Um Jay Leno has a multi million dollar car collection and a garage to fit them all…

  • torino390

J Leno lives modestly??? where the hell have you been, Mars? have you seen his garage? just shows what utter crap this list is.

  • David

you wanna know who really lives modestly??? one of the richest people in the world and that is Warren Buffet! A multi-billionaire that still lives in the same house (worth a couple hundred thousand) his whole life and drives an old pick up truck around research it!

  • I was taking it seriously until I saw Prince William and Kate. Now I know what this article writer meens by modest. This is nothing but toffee – trust me. 😀

  • James Matters

Jay Leno lives small? Are you an idiot? According to the LA Times, Jay Leno owns 130 cars and 93 motorcycles.
Can I live as small as that?

  • Torchy

I stopped reading through this as soon as I got to Kate & William – yeah they really live frugal lives those two. Another absolute load of twaddle

  • anonymous2123

Jay Leno? Doesn’t he have a huge car collection?

  • Mali

When I got to Wills and Kate, I knew this was a joke of an article. They have 3 residences, a limitless budget for kitchens and renovations, not to mention whatever budget they want for their clothes. They holiday every 2 weeks and they have no time to work – do the math!

  • Jack

The Royal Family don’t have much money. All their wealth is in property, and any servants are paid by the public. They get very little in the way of actual ‘spending’ money.

  • Matthew11

The irony of this article being that if people don’t spend the money they earn, they are hurting the economy but not contributing back to it in a balanced manor. One can’t blame them for knowing that fame is short lived and they still need to live the rest of their lives making it a good personal choice but at the same time it is a lousy choice for society.

  • AJ

It’s alright for them to live modestly as long as they share their blessings to less fortunate people.

  • WminPhoenix

Really, Jay Leno lives modestly? He owns one of the finest car collections that cost millions to purchase, store/house and maintain with a staff of in house mechanics and restorers.
Modest? I don’t think so. Your researchers failed!

  • Guest

Kate Middleton wears the same outfit more than once? She’s just like me!

  • Smedley N

Jay frickin Leno??? He’s got like 300 cars and motorcycles.

  • linusbern

No doubt Leno lives quite a modest existence, with his 130 collector’s cars and 88 collector’s motorcycles.

  • Baron Samedi

Jay Leno living modestly? Have you seen the guys’ car collection? This is just made up bs…

  • Astroboy

obviously whoever wrote this has never seen “jay leno’s garage”

  • WakeUpNumpties

Jay Leno lived modestly?! Get real! Have you seen his car collection?!!!

  • Lee

I Just got has far as Jay Leno, wow obviously not seen his garage of motors. He has some amazing cars 🙂

  • pleaseponderthis

Sooo, Jay Leno got rid of his not modest car collection? I think this article confuses a few thrifty practices with that of a ‘lifestyle’ least for some of these celebs 🙂

  • Kiddyman

My future Queen, and you call her “Middleton”……….

  • Mike

I’m really not to sure about the accuracy of this list. I mean, Jay Leno owns something like 300 collector cars he keeps in an airplane hanger, that doesn’t sound very modest to me.

  • Perfect_Life

Since when is Scott Dickless considered a “celebrity”? That guy is the world’s biggest douche bag and that’s it.

  • Moi

That’s fiancée, not fiancé…I can clearly see that she’s a woman.

  • djgibb

Leno lives off his stand up money?! Hilarious!

How many stand-ups can afford a So. Cal mansion with a freaking multi-car garage to warehouse dozens of classic and exotic cars and motorcycles?

  • samnbryan

Mariska Hargitay has got it going on.

  • Anthony Pray

Right and Jay leno’s car collection is worth Millions . While it is a fact that he saved most of the money from his Tonight show hosting , the 30 million dollar house and all those cars were not paid for with just stand up money that much is sure lol .

  • HelenL1

Humble and 1 million should not be in the same sentence. This should say modest considering how much they make.

  • astrolin

It is not Kate Middleton. Show some respect. It is the Duchess of Cambridge. And no, you morons, it is not Lizzy Winsdor. It is Queen Elizabeth.

  • Attacking Pope

Jay Leno????? He’s got more exotic cars than a used car lot!!!

  • Abu Nudnik

New stats show the less you pay for your wedding, the longer the marriage lasts… on average of course.

“This is a website geared towards black woman right? Cause I thought missed something with an article that does not show even one black face.” The multiple tiers of racism in that one statement has me genuinely laughing out loud at this point.

Yes, Jay Leno’s 800-strong car collection housed in aircraft hangars strung together is incredibly modest…”Here we are again in the Lamborghini section of my garage”.
Not just “here’s my Lamborghini” but the “Lamborghini section”.
Good luck to him – I wish I had his coin, but I wouldn’t say that’s living modestly!

  • diablo135

Since Leno owns more cars than a car dealer, is that modest?

  • Cardair

Leonardo DiCaprio????…You’re kidding right? What a joke!!!

  • zuzu

Stella McCartney, the daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney, went to a very good London State school (which I happen to know well), you don’t pay fees at any State school in England. the level of education is very good, especially in the one she went to. Paul McCartney did not send his children to private (paid) schools because he and his wife famously wanted his kids to grow-up s normal as possible and interacting with normal children. Paul McCartney was a working-class boy from Liverpool who didn’t want to isolate or distance his children from the majority of society by sending them to a private school or away to a boarding school. Anyway it seems to have worked for Stella and her siblings!

Paul Mcartney is known to be miser.

I don’t know if I would Jay Leno lives modestly, he has a fleet of some of the rarest vehicles on the planet.

  • ILikeTurtles

Jay Leno, hasn’t he spent like 100 million on cars?

  • Thomasinwonderland

Jay Lino? Seriously? I don’t care if hr lives in a trailer park in a single-wide- His multi- million dollar car collection and the facilities that he has to restore them shows he is no cheap skate .

  • Ann

Living in a 1 million dollar house is modest? Give me a break.

  • Bill

Really? Not flying in a private jet counts as “modest”?
I wish I were modest enough to be able to afford a hybrid.

  • Eric Ferrier

Doesn’t Jay Leno have over 800 cars? That’s not what I call “living modestly”!

  • Terrence O’Sullivan

I think the Leno family is rolling in the dough. He put the 20 Million or so he made a year at the Tonight Show in a bank? Who controls the account? The bank? No, Jay.

  • Macca Dacca

The writer of this article has a bloody strange idea of what “living modestly” means. She chooses one feature of the celebrities’ lives to claim that they live “modestly”. Oh yeah? How many houses do they have? How many cars? How many servants? This is just garbage.

  • rottnrotty

So millionaire Paul McCartney making his daughter pick a low tuition school is “living modestly”? More like he just wants the money for himself. Sleazy.

  • jenniluna

  • The Truth

Is this some sort of joke? Whoever wrote this made ALL of this up. What ridiculous rubbage!

  • Johnny Buller

These are the smart ones. How many celebrities have lived the lavish lifestyle only to wind up bankrupt. They don’t have to live like paupers; but, for many their celebrity status is fleeting. Who knows when the public will tire of them and move on to someone new? Live comfortably; but, put something away for the future.

  • bobbobitybob

Leno has a collection of more than 130 cars, some hand-made just for him, some retailing for millions. They’re housed in a huge renovated hangar/workshop/showcase,where he has four full-time mechanics working for him, in addition to assistants and security people. Just for the cars. His own home is two joined estates in Bel Air with 6,500 feet of elbow room. If this is living modestly, I want it. He has too much money to spend, so I guess in that sense he’s living below his means.

  • Robert

Nobody on this list lives modestly

  • biffer

Leno lives modestly…ya right. He owns a 150 cars, including a 1.6 million dollar McLaren P1.

  • David Brown

Yeah yeah, Leno lives on the cheap… AND HAS A 50 MILLION DOLLAR CAR COLLECTION!!!

  • johnny patrick

what a scam….who’s Julia Austin? an idiot! Leno has millions in vintage car collection, McCartney a zillion acre castle, DiCrapio burns thru money like a drunken sailor etc etc. Austin wants to be invited. Wear kneepads to the party Julia

  • pixelpop

  • RIGHTway

Who cares if it’s only white people on the list. It’s a BS joke of a list. None of them live modestly.

  • Carnut1

Just so you all know, Leno has one of the world’s largest privately owned car collections. With his competition being the likes of Ralph Lauren and the Sultan of Brunei, I would hesitate to support this man’s supposed financial restraint.

  • Marian Dixon

William and Kate live modestly ?-you have got to kidding-how much did she spend on the three KP kitchens before she decided she didn’t want to live there ? LOL

  • GoPherIT827

interesting about Jay Leno, I have heard the same thing about his modest ~$50,000,000 car collection and how he only spends stand up money on it.

  • disqus_bogdMePzji

absolute rubbish the future king of england and everyone else on this list live like millionaires..and why shouldnt they …they are! so shut the f up this list and its heading is perverse…though that bdoesnt reflect on the subjects. They simply are what they are. this as news on the other hand is absolute crap

  • Harry Peters

I’ve seen Leno’s house and he has millions in his car collection. While he could spend more if he wanted to, he certainly does not qualify as living modestly.

  • Anja J

RIght, Dicaprio vacations on a huge yacht, he has 4 or 5 mega mansions, and even if he is not living there, the power is on, the homes have to be heated to keep away the damp, have to be kept ready in case he decides to drop in at any time. Refrigs are working, pilot lights for gas are working etc If you have half a dozen 5000 sq ft or larger homes, you are NOT living modestly or eco friendly!

  • Tamsin Mc Cormick

It doesn’t matter how rich you are everyone likes a bargain !! Also why should not look for the best price when you want to buy something ??

  • moe

throwing up a little reading this, these idiots are just cheap!!! Ugh!

  • sara

This is a really ridiculous article. Just because some of these celebrities use some money saving tactics doesn’t mean they’re living modestly. To truly live modestly one must use these tactics in all areas of of ones life. These celebrities tend to spend lavishly on clothes, vacations, clothing and jewelry, etc. Because one has a stash of coupons and another drives a Prius means nothing as far as living like the rest of the population is concerned. Sure DiCaprio drives his Prius because he has environmental concerns, but he still vacations on yachts in the playgrounds Europe. Leno lives on his stand-up salary and banks the rest…he’s still rolling in his millions. Look at his car collection alone. I usually don’t read these Madame Noire articles because they are so silly. This one caught my eye but turned out to be just more of the same.

And yes ever pun intended. I have had the most wonderful of opportunities to meet your first lady, if only to say “its and honour Mrs Obama” and a smattering of small talk about gardens, vegetables and “our forces overseas”. A formidable woman by any standards. Its funny how she never made me feel like a white man, or make me think of her as a black woman, I somehow thought of us as people of a similar cause, speaking of a similar cause, and never anything else in-between. But people, Your comments down below are so full of hatred and not much else, I am inclined to think, that this awful little island as you call ours is not so bad after all. So much hatred amongst yourselves surely does not get what ever message it is you’re trying to confer across. The land of the free? I can only imagine this will spark more debate, I can only encourage it, but ask, would Mrs Obama approve? Enlighten me x

  • Bobby Kind

Sorry – This is asinine. These people “live modestly”? You have to be freaking kidding me! If by living “modestly” you mean living in multi million dollar homes, having millions of dollars worth of jewelry, flying on private planes, ETC., ETC., ETC., then yes, I suppose they “live modestly”. Maybe you meant they don’t live beyond their means.

Who writes this stuff? Jay Leno puts all his money in ‘A BANK’ and lives off stand up income? Okay, the guy has a net worth of $350 million. He also earns an additional $15 – $20
million per year from standup. Not exactly a piker is he? I’m more than certain that his money is not in a bank; its in investments, appreciating real estate, bonds, stocks. Probably earns another $ 30 million just from investments.

  • citizen-unpc

This is dumb. So how much does Leno make doing standup? Millions probably. And you can’t say that he lives modestly when he owns 130 cars and almost as many motorcycles. I’m not criticizing Leno. I’m criticizing this dumb article.

  • lmayer

Oh puhleeze- who are you kidding. SJParker and Matthew Broderick just put their apt on the market for several million dollars- they don’t scrimp. And the Royals have multiple homes. They don’t belong on this list EVER!

  • straightmale

These people live modest lives compared to who, Bill and Melinda Gates?

  • Kate

How can these women considered be modest when their handbags alone cost thousands of dollars. These people aren’t everyday modest living people. They have cleaners, trainers, nannies, personal assistants and live in enormous houses.

  • Kate

How can Jay Leno be considered ‘modest’ when owns hundreds of cars? I live modestly and use public transport.

  • belladonna

I couldn’t even get past the first three. Such bullshit. Leo DiCaprio owns a huge Malibu mansion and several other homes and the Royal Nobodies live in a friggin palace, for God sakes.

  • Ken H

  • Lloyd Kent

Yeah! Jay Leno lives modestly with a warehouse full of cars. Right!

  • Kimberly White

This is retarded. Kourtney Kardashian’s coupon use was shown on their reality show. She was into it for like 5 seconds and then abandoned it. She spent $7k on her patio furniture (again, shown on the show), she’s not frugal.

  • rosewater49

Kate re-wears cloths??? And Tori Spelling and her bow once lived in a house valued at ONLY $2 million? Oh the humanity! How do they cope?

  • Lucy

Modest? I’m not sure how Dave Grohl’s 4,907 sq. ft. house, with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, on over 2 acres and with an estimated value of about $3 million, constitutes a “rather normal house”.

  • sumguy2006

    Is this a joke?

  • maxsdad

“Kourtney (Kardashian) is addicted to couponing! She has a whole binder full of coupons that she brings along whenever she shops.”

The AVERAGE home in Calabasas is $1.1m, and that’s a ‘nothing special’ house. Kourtney and her hubby bought their $3.9m home for the foreclosure price of $1.7m… but we’re expected to believe that she pinches pennies as she shops driving her prerequisite Kardashian black Mercedes SUV or God Awful black and chrome pimped out Bentley.

  • maxsdad

Funny how DiCaprio is touted as environmentally green and all (he actually drives a HYBRID, for gosh sakes!), but FAILS to mention that he recently chartered a private jet to fly him and a bunch of buddies to the World Cup openers in Brazil, and then spent a couple of weeks on the 470 ft private yacht, Topaz, before going BACK to New York (on another private jet) to participate in the New York City climate change march this past weekend. But he’s a liberal, so it’s all okay.

Just wanted to let you know I won’t be visiting your site anymore because it takes 1000yrs to load up between pages of each topic. Jay Leno has 500 expensive cars. Don’t give me bullshit, he lives modestly? His cars alone are worth millions and millions.

  • PTBarnumboy

If Jay Leno is living a modest lifestyle I’m a monkey’s uncle. There are damn few millionaires that live a modest lifestyle.

  • dot

good for them to look at the future. what if they get out of work?.this way they have Money to live on rather than be homeless. reality is best.!

Jay Leno really? He has one of the most impressive car collections in the world… I’ve seen him spend $100k on tv once just to take some piece of crap car from the 70’s and make it faster than a Bugatti.

    • mahadragon

This article is total bunk. Jay Leno has spent millions on his car collection. He doesn’t put all the money he made into a saving account. He puts all his money into his huge garage and his car collection. He has 3 full time mechanics that just go around taking care of his huge car collection. How can that be living modestly?

And how is Kate Middleton re-wearing her outfits qualify as living modestly?

  • Meowhiss

I wonder if they ware used clothes .. like the number she is wearing in this picture….

  • SJE

Wow. Re-wearing outfits. The very idea. And I love how much of this is more about being cheap rather than living modestly.

    • mahadragon

Ya, the idea that Kate Middleton actually wears a piece of clothing more than once qualifies as living modestly is beyond ridiculous. 🙂

  • Wimpy

Modest living? Naw ! Tight wads is more like it.

But Ive had ENOUGH. Grow the heck up people!!

  • DCS

If you think that a 130-car garage (Jay Leno) is “living simply” you should probably readjust your reality…

  • Carl Perry

This is absolute BS. Paul McCartney owns not less than six properties, two in England and 4 in the U.S.. Jay Leno owns 2 side by side mansions in LA and one in Massachusetts. Can’t forget that HUGE car collection. None of the rest could reasonably be considered living conservatively.

  • are you kidding

Jay Leno collects sports cars, as I recall; SJP and Matthew Broadrick might put their kids in hand-me-downs, but they just listed their townhouse for $22M and I don’t think she shops at Macy’s; William and Kate? Who are you kidding? they live off the tax payers in Britain. They just spent millions of tax payer pounds remodeling at Kensington Palace only to move to the country, that’s probably also costing the Brits plenty

    • Dido

Yep, Jay owns over 100 cars (many of them very valuable) and almost as many motocycles. Sara Jessica is a renowned designer clothes horse. This list is just stupid.

  • Tanya Powell

  • t-dogggggg

  • Allison Knowles

And of course there has to a bloody Kardashian in there …. honestly, is there nowhere to escape from these vapid do-nothing airheads?!!

  • LovelyLabrys

As for Paul McCartney – He didn’t make Stella ‘choose’ a state school for lower tuition. State Schools don’t charge tuition at all! He chose State School for his political and parenting beliefs. He believes that the Government should provide all students with a quality education, rather than a private system based on money and old money elitist connections. He also wanted her to have a ‘normal’ upbringing surrounded by normal kids, with normal lives, and without the forementioned money and elitism. – just like he had.

Of course, for security reasons she had to be taken there and back in a security driven car, which she said was ’embarrassing’ when compared to her friends, but she has kept the same social and political values as an adult.

  • LovelyLabrys

You may find that William and Kate live within THEIR means, with THEIR money. However, they do not live within OURS. The public paid for a the full refurbishment of their appartments at a cost of millions, only for them to decide that they weren’t going to live their after all, and so we are paying for refurbishment of a completely new mansion elsewhere.

    • marymoon12

Kensington Apartment was offices previously and didn’t have normal household kitchen or facilities for living
Partly paid for by William for the things they wanted extra
This will be a Formal Residence for posterity

  • Jenny

I really find it hard to believe SJP goes shopping for hand me downs, same with Angelina Jolie. Anyone who believes this crap is nuts. SJP’s kids go to private schools in NYC where the tuition is $25k per kid, per year. And Angelina was just in the news for their wedding at their estate in France or wherever. Yeah, modest living at its best. Keep buying those $12-15 dollar movie tickets so you can be first, and make sure you buy the $10 popcorn and big gulp! LOL!!

    • Dido

Brad and Angie just bought a luxury yacht as a wedding present to themselves, and they live in a castle in France.

  • elcal

This article is crap. Marky Mark Suckerface does not live modestly. He lives in a huge gated home in the hills above Palo Alto, some of the nations most expensive real estate. His pal Ozero is there every chance he gets.

Jay Leno “lives off the money his wife makes doing standup”? Are you freaking kidding me? NOBODY living on the proceeds from their standup act lives like they do. I would agree that they do not “live beyond their means”, but only because their “means” are practically unlimited.

    Who writes this crap?

Denzel Washington not only lives modestly, he is very charitable. For instance, without publicity or blowing his own horn, he gave $7 million to his alma mater, Fordham University in New York City.

  • Chris MacKechnie

Jay Leno and Wife Mavis Leno formerly of The Tonight Show living off his stand up comedy and banking his tonight show OF Millions Literally Millions Yearly for several decades ????????? Bull Loney ! baloney Humm excuse me for Emphasizing Baloney ! cough cough hack hack hoey haach hoey !!! He owns a fleet of rare motor vehicles costing Millions of dollars ! Spit ! spit !!! spit !
The ruddy cost of just one of his many many cars Now just one would place anyone into a celebrity house Hock Hock Hack Hack spittooee !!!!!!

  • Manny Reznick

This is so egregious as to be insulting tot he readers. These celebrities do one thing and they’re characterized as living modest lives. What bunk. Leno has about 40 million worth of cars he keeps in a special garage that has elevators to move his collection around.

  • Mabemrys

Oops! NOT because he wanted to save money.

  • Mabemrys

McCartney chose state education for his kids because he wanted to save money but because he does not believe in private education. As for lower tuition, there are no tuition fees to attend state schools, they are paid for from national and local taxes.

  • tanka

this is ridiculous – if they are living frugally, i will take their life anyday.

  • Selena

Well, Lauren Conrad and her bf (probably) live in that area because the boyfriend attends Law School, so it’s convenient.

    • glitterazti

It may be convenient, but Westwood, CA is a VERY expensive place to live. Condo’s costs millions and millions of dollars over there.

  • Andy Craig-Burns

if leo were to swan around in a private jet it would make a mockery of having a hybrid car. Yes I know they are like a must have toy for the hollywood set, and they probably have a nice Bentley or large Merc as well

  • Richard Gibbons

The Royals, William and Kate, do not live modestly, they’ve just had a $5million makeover done on their ‘apartment’ which is in fact part of a grand palace.

  • escalera

Leno was a working automobile mechanic before and during his early stand up career and has grown his car collection as a fun investment over time also creating “Jay’s garage” as a great youtube channel for people who happen to be into cars. Maybe a better title for this piece could have been celebrities who don’t lose all their money being by being stupid or drug addicted.

  • Jack

So, rewearing outfits qualifies as ‘living modestly’? Jay Leno and his wife choose to live only off of the millions he makes in standup and that’s modest? This was good for a laugh

  • l

this list is bullshit they are saying the kardashians are frugal lmao…

  • Dallas_Guy

Also, there is no such thing as a “modest” condo in Westwood. Small, maybe.

  • Dallas_Guy

“Modest” might be a bit, er, modest. They do have a house in Beverly Hills, although admittedly, it’s “modest” by Beverly Hills standards. And he commuted through the same canyon I did when I lived there, except going the other way. I’ve seen him in everything from a open-wheel racer, to an immaculate 1950s Imperial to a Model-T (which he was having trouble controlling). He may have that all from standup, since he’s reputed to be working all the time. And the car collection is a savings plan of sorts worth millions. But keeping it up must be hideously expensive.

  • Buttweet

The Royals..are you kidding me? Jay Leno?…how much has he spent on his car collection. This has to be the stupidist article ever.

  • Fella

    The Kardashians????? Really?

  • Andy Stack

It’s funny that they put Jay Leno as living modestly. Apparently he must not have shown them his garage, which is big as a mansion, full of rare and expensive cars. Seems pretty modest to me, LOL!

  • Ptolomy Jones

david grohl bought a new Aston Martin-this is BS

  • Gio Taylor

Jay Leno has a car collection of over 120 cars, including a Bugatti (over a million dollars), so that’s hardly “living modestly.”

Also, SJP and Broderick are ridiculous for giving their kids hand-me-downs.

    • Lexi

So they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t, huh?

  • Nova Man

Jay Leno put almost all of his money in the bank? I don’t think so. He has millions of dollars worth of vintage cars in a huge garage.

  • LucasCorso

Wow. Royals who “actually do their own grocery shopping.” How common of them. Do they actually wipe their own a**es too? God, I hate the world.

    • MissAnneThrope007

Indeed. And they only do their own shopping when conveniently placed journalists are there to photograph them – but the British tax payer foots their grocery bill. We also paid over a million pounds to have their London pad re-decorated while many people were struggling to find the money to feed their families, or pay their rent. They are leeches.

      • captaindash

They bring in so much money to England it’s ridiculous. Tax money spent on them is worth it to the economy. It’s a whole industry. The amount of people who visit England because of Buckingham Palace etc is incredible. Personally I don’t get the fascination with royalty in the very least, but others do and it’s a cash cow. They aren’t leeches, they are a sponsored tourism attraction.

        • MissAnneThrope007

This is a complete fallacy. Information obtained from Republic shows that: “The estimated total annual cost of the monarchy to taxpayers is £202.4m, around five times the official figure published by the royal household. The official figure excludes a number of costs, including round-the-clock security, lavish royal visits and lost revenue from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. Civil List expenditure has increased by 94 per cent in real terms over the last two decades. £202.4m is equivalent to 9,560 nurses, 8,200 police officers and more than the total annual Ministry of Defence spending on food. The total cost is also equivalent to a number of high profile government cuts, including cuts to the Sure Start programme. The British monarchy is 112 times as expensive as the Irish president and more than twice as expensive as the French semi-presidential system. Britain’s royal family is the most expensive in Europe at more than double the cost of the Dutch monarchy. Taxpayers are kept in the dark about the exact cost of the monarchy, due to the royal household’s exemption from the Freedom of Information Act and widespread misunderstanding about the nature of the royal family’s finances”

And with regard to the hackneyed old argument that they increase tourism, even ‘Visit Britain’ – our national tourist agency – finds not jot of evidence to support this. Again from Republic: “Chester Zoo, Stonehenge and the Roman Baths are all more successful tourist attractions than Windsor Castle, which is the only occupied royal residence to attract visitors in large numbers. If Windsor Castle was included in the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) list of top attractions it would come in at number 24. Tourists come here for our world class museums, beautiful scenery, fantastic shopping and captivating history – not because they might catch a glimpse of Prince Andrew. And In a republic, royal properties such as Buckingham Palace would be open all year round, so visitors that do want to explore our royal heritage would have even more opportunity to do so.”

So I stand by my original claim. They are leeches, but they are leeches that have successfully manipulated and controlled an ill informed public.

  • OneMercilessMing

Headline correction: “Celebrity Couples Who Live Surprisingly Modestly” OR, alternatively: “Celebrity Couples Who Live Surprisingly Modest Lives”. WHERE are the editors?

    • Guliver

The only sensible post in the whole website

  • lulu luanne

Angelina Jolie does that too. Her and Brad’s kids wear hand me downs all the time. You’d think the two biggest stars in the world would live extravagantly, but I’ve seen pictures of their home in California, and their kitchen looks amazingly like mine and many others. Nice, but not ostentatious. Their kids even have the same kid sized table and chair set that my own children have, and it only cost about $300, if you just have 4 chairs.

  • lalisa

their definition of living frugally and mine are not on the same planet no less the same page

  • Sheppard1

an article that is not surprisingly, moronic and false..

Don’t worry Socialism will sort it all out, also known as the plundering of the productive by the unaccountable.

    • katherine

      jealous eh?

  • Bentley

Jay has over $50 million in collector cars. I doubt that he made it just doing stand up.

  • a simple citizen

How low has the’ firm fallen’…..waity katie and wimpo on a list of ‘celebrity couples’ AND leaving beneath their means……ludicrous on every level….what a load of total and absolute crap.

  • Dearly

Big deal. Leno has a huge car collection and house to go with it. Not impressed.

  • griselda

It’s live modestly, not modest. Seriously – if you want to be a journalist, take some grammar lessons.

  • Labradorsrule

Jay Leno DOES NOT live modestly! He owns HUNDREDS of expensive cars! That is not modestly! This is crap!

    • Tinwoods

Take a deep breath, Labradoodle. There are probably one or two things else wrong with the world that might just be worth getting all worked up about. This is not one of those.

      • Labradorsrule

Hey Tincan, I’ll decide what I want to get upset about and YOU can decide what you’ll get upset about. People living in squalor while others have hundreds of cars IS something to get worked up about.

        • captaindash

If he lives off just the standup money, then he’s a working man. Period. Apparently he’s a total workaholic and is constantly doing side stand up jobs for cash. He came up from scratch through the clubs and built a following. None of it was handed to him, so no, him having a boatload of cars ISN’T something to get worked up about just because others don’t have any money. (and this is from a Jay Leno hater after hearing Letterman’s stories and after what he did to Conan)

          • Croessus

All true (except the BS that Letterbox has been spewing). But it DOESN’T qualify him for “living modestly” status.

        • Trolley

They should get off of their lazy @sses!

          • EdgyLefty

Your response is typically stupid, ignorant, and heartless. Are you white, far right etc? An excellent guess I think.

“Living in squalor” includes millions of people worldwide who are far from ‘lazy”; rather are in situations far beyond their control.

You presented yourself as a heartless person. I want you to think about that.

Do not expect a response. I do wish you well though. 🙂

    • MadCzech

His collection is growing constantly, but it’s not quite at 100 yet.

  • Andrew Page

Jay Leno owns a MASSIVE garage of collectable cars and has a custom installed 18th century steam engine. Not exactly modest.

Don’t believe me? Check out “Modern Marvels” Season 16, episode 16(Steam) where he shows it off and his two steam powered automobiles.

Still, props to him for lovingly preserving important pieces of history and having shared them with the public on an educational program. His piece was the best part of that show.

    • Tinwoods

Every person on the planet is aware of Leno’s vast car and motorcycle collection.

      • Croessus

Yeah. It’s really cool. But personal ownership of more than $100 million of antiques kind of takes him out of the “living modestly” category, no?

  • disqus_nzJoIXznaL

Yes Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick live a modest life in their $15 million dollar townhouse on Charles Street in NYC. Are you kidding???

  • Stephen Chu

hand me down. Ya but handed down from who? Hand me down doesnt necessarily mean low quality or inexpensive.

    • gobnait

      Anna Winatour’s daughter, no doubt.

  • mark baren

these articles are so much bs… example, leno has a auto collection that is probably worth close to a $ 100,000,000… and they were not gifts

    • Joe

lol thats exactly what I was thinking!

    • Progressive Republican

Plus, Leno’s stand-up income was somewhere between $10 million and $15 million/yr. I could live off the interest and never touch the principle!

      • Walter Hinterberger

        • Progressive Republican

Damn. Though I had that straight.

    • gonzales27

      Thats an investment

      • Croessus

That he gets to drive around in.

    • James Matters

I got news for you. If his collection was worth 100 million, he would be taking a BATH!

      • dernge

Regardless of what the collection is worth, it’s ridiculous to say Leno lives modestly. He needs a warehouse to store all of his cars and he has full-time mechanics on his payroll to do nothing but help maintain them. And even though they may be considered investments, his car ownership is not a money-generating operation, it’s a hobby. More power to him, but I would hardly call that living modestly.

    • katherine

you obviously didnt understand the term lives modestly….but based on your picture i get why you didnt…

So the second one is Reotardo DeCraprio–lives Modestly and Green?–he rented a $650 million yacht–the Topaz, almost 500 foot–just so he and 20 of his buddies would have a good party place for the World Cup–that’s Modestly and Green?. This article is a total bunch of lies–what did you get this to help these people’s PR? Total scam—FAIL.

    • mabemrys

I bet he made them split the rental, though.

  • HawaiiRules

BS on Parker and Broderick–she routinely does the twins in identical designer outfits–don’t think they’re hand me downs. And take a gander at what she wore to the metropolitan museum charity event–seriously look it up–like royalty way OVER THE TOP–in fact, probably puts the royal family to shame. Nothing wrong with that, it’s their money, spend it how you choose–but don’t lie and say how “modestly” they live–just like regular folks, kids only wear hand me downs–BS….BS!

    • Tinwoods

Calm down, poor person. These articles are like professional wrestling. Not meant to be truthful or real, but still entertaining.

    • Germaine Stafford

Two ugly Zionists teaming up and poor-mouthing like fat slob Hillary revealing in her latest loser book ‘Hard Choices’ that she and Bill were BROKE when they left the White House. NOBODY. WAS. FOOLED……!!!!!!!!!

STFU. And NO, Hawaii DOES not rule. Hawaii is poor, nothing state that wouldn’t survive if no one visited.

Don’t get bent out of shape over it and have a stroke. It is just a lighthearted article.

  • J Blair

Parker and Broderick are Jewish – of course they won’t shell out for new clothes for the kids. Its like the Jew kid who asked his dad for $40. The dad replies: “30 dollas? for whats you want 20 dollas foa?”

    • Michael R. Johnston

      But you aren’t racist.

For you to be thankful for hatred for Jews is bizarre. The old Nazi attitudes are among us. That’s not a good thing. I honestly hope I’ve misunderstood what you

          • Doug Scott

Really wish everyone would stop grouping jews with blacks and whites. Jews should be grouped with Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, etc.. There is NO Jewish race. It is simply a religion. Do no understand why this is so hard to grasp.

  • FromUR2UB

What does it mean that no blacks are featured in this article? Whatever the reason, it saddens me.

Anyway, I would looooove to not spend money. I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t even want to buy groceries or gas. I just want to keep my money! After I calculated how much I would throw away in a year buying lunch everyday, I began packing my lunches. But, if I was going to make my kids wear hand-me-downs, I would make sure I was buying my clothes at a thrift store too. Just seems kind of wrong, otherwise.

  • Phara

This is a website geared towards black woman right? Cause I thought missed something with an article that does not show even one black face. And there are plenty of black celebs that live simplistic lifestyles without all the fanfare but once again MN decided that showing us rich white folk would be better than showcasing our own, smdh.

    • Chelsea M

      Who are they?

      • PHARA

Alfre Woodard, Tyra Banks, Lupita Nyongo, Kendrick Lamar, Denzel Washington just too name a few, but there are plenty more out there, ill keep researching tho!

        • Fella

I sat next to Alfre Woodard on the plane in “COACH” I clearly remembered looking at her as if she should have been in First class and not sitting next to me. Her response was it was too expensive.

          • kath marie

Alfre Woodard is a very classy woman!

        • Olga Kim

Halle Berry. She lives well, I’m sure, but not extravagantly. She doesn’t need to be seen with different, over-priced designer handbags every day, and she still drives that white Lexus SUV that she’s had for a few years.

    • sarasefree

all you have to do is let MN know your list of black frugal celebs if there’s any out there, am sure they would be happy to do an article on that. hmmmm i wonder who are they.

      • Phara

Why should i have to present my list, I’m not paid to do their research or their jobs, they are, and because of that they should thoroughly research their topics, not cut and paste from and old Daily Finance Article.

        • gonzales27

They need someone to do their work for them

      • Mr_Smith01

Why, this article is a total facade anyhow, cherry picked quotes and metrics. If blacks are offended that some blacks weren’t included to create this crap article, what’s the harm in including a few, it’s all B. S. anyway

I am a white woman, and I think you are a bunch of jokes.

      • Margo Wilkins

The “curse” of Ham is not supported by the Bible, ergo, it is rubbish. When the world-wide economic Armageddon comes, we will all be reduced to serfdom. Nobody, not even white people, will escape this fate. See you at the bottom, idiot.

    • Mickey Logan

yeah, because absolutely everything has to be about race.

    • Mr_Smith01

      • Jimbo Cason

        shut up

    • Devvie

There are a lot of anti-white articles. A friend of mine from southeast Washington said that even her Pastor gives anti-white sermons and the town (DC) is segregated by the black population in that area. Other areas are normal with a nice mix of people from different cultural backgrounds. Ironically Reverend Wright grew up in a very upper middle class, racially mixed town in Pennsylvania where there was a lot less racism then the rest of the country. He was very well liked and didn’t have any issues with “whites”. He based his church on Black Liberation Theology. But he preached a lot more like Louis Farrahkan, with a lot of attacks against the jews and whites. It made him popular, but he’s like the Fox News of preachers, spreading bullsh*t and misinformation. My friend said it’s all the preachers like that Reverend Wright in Chicago where she grew up in SE D.C. It’s a shame because it’s not doing anybody any good. This site, like BET likes to use anti-white mocking and rhetoric. I’m not sure how that’s helpful to anybody. The same goes for white, Hispanic, Asian, and other ethnic communities who hang on to bigotry. As for the article, I know Sarah Jessica Parker grew up poor in New Jersey as one of 7 kids. I still doubt the vintage clothing her kids wear is cheap.

      • Sally

I know black preachers in DC at the height of the civil rights movement in the mid-sixties encouraged young black women to procreate with or without ‘benefit of clergy’ to over populate the white man. Here we are now, with a black President employing totalitarian policies of both parties keep everyone—black, white, celebrity and nobody—BROKE because our open borders serve to dismantle our country into becoming a coupon-waving dystopia!

    • Steve Aspenlieder

Sadly 50 percent of black nba players are bankrupt 5 years after they retire. They were used by the colleges to fill their bank accounts and gave them bogus educations in return.

      • Ota kun

Are most non-black retired NBA players not bankrupt similarly?

        • Leftist_Mods_Must_Go

          all ten of them?

        • Steve Aspenlieder

The ESPN study was focused on nba players which is 78 percent black. Many of the white players are eastern European and access is hard to follow after they retire and go back.

    • Terita Applebomb

racist comment, what does it matter what colour a person is?

      • Silverado1947

Because, Terita, race is such a BIG part of who we are. It defines you as a person. It has to do with how you were raised, where you live, how you feel toward other races and many other things. It is also part of your DNA. When you meet someone new, even before you hear their name mentioned, you notice their race AND gender. That is who we are. I am a white male. I’m not just white and I’m not just a male. I am a WHITE MALE. Then, I will tell you my name and disclose things about me that I’m willing to divulge. But, even if I wanted to, I can’t hide the fact that I’m a white male. But, you knew that. Don’t even get why you asked such a question.

Now, that is my answer as to WHAT does it matter, which is what you asked. If you had asked WHY does it matter, my answer would have been totally different.

        • Terita Applebomb

intresting theory but I do not agree. I think that racial barriers dont exhist anymore, the only barriers are economic.

          • Silverado1947

Racial barriers don’t exist anymore??? Are you delusional? Of course they do and always will. I grant you that things have improved greatly over the last 50 years, but they haven’t left us. If a white and a black man apply for the same job and they are equal in all respects, who gets the job? I’ll tell you. It depends on what race the one doing the hiring is. Same answer for a man and a woman going for the same job. Believe me, I’ve only touched on the tip of what the problem is. Don’t believe me? Ask a person of color. Or, colour, if you prefer.

  • Chelsea M
