It looks like the long-awaited Aaliyah biopic might be airing on VH1 this summer.

While some people think Zendaya Coleman will do good work as Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime biopic, “Aaliyah” was trending all last night and this morning with people upset over the movie and Coleman being cast. I’m sure you heard about the petition too. Many actually tweeted out pictures or recommended women, known and unknown, who they felt would have been a better pick. Some of the women could have been dopplegangers for the late singer, but others? Uh, some folks really tried it. Here are 11 women, both good and…interesting picks, recommended in the past and present as people who should play Aaliyah. Who would you recommend? Or are you digging Zendaya too?

I am surprised no one thought of Ciara as an option. She sings and dances similar to Aaliyah. They have similar styles and somewhat resemble each other. Ciara has even stated Aaliyah as having a huge influence on her. When you have a life movie you want the cast to resemble the real people.
Keisha Chante would have clearly also been a good choice if she had previously been casted to play Aaliyah in a big screen movie.

  • Derek

This is kinda sad people are clowning Zendaya. Great idea. Tear down an upcoming young talent before they reach their full potential.Personally I feel she provides hope for my idiotic generation. Its one thing to say she isnt right for the part but its another to claim she has no talent. -_- . I hope for the very best. Ive followed her for some time and the girl lives and breathes everything Aaliyah.

    • Hot Medusa

      Well said Derek!

  • Rina

I think they should add Tinashe to this collection, I like Zendaya I think she could play a younger version of Aaliyah. It seems like people forgot that the directors can edit and that there is a such thing as spray tanning so all the crap that Zendaya is too light is crap. It may be because I’m about a year younger than her that I feel the way I do but I’ve seen people look at my mom funny because I’m lighter than my sister and my mom (and yes she gave birth to me) so the fact the you criticize some who not even related is jacked up. I get it if you think she is too young, that’s understandable but that she is too light is ridiculous.

  • StarrRosee

LMAO @ Megan Good!!! Hell to the NOOOOO please Megan Good is good for playing the roles she usually plays (being the side chick, skank w.e you wanna call it)…No way she would do well playing Aaliyah smh

  • Junebug123

    zendaya aint black enough

    • Rina

Drop the ignorance please and thank you, greatly appreciated.

      • Junebug123

in south Africa we don’t consider biracials black

        • Hot Medusa

Well this isn’t South Africa…she is half black and that makes her plenty “black enough” to play this role…

  • Princess Taiana Aubrey

MY god just got done looking through Lolita’s Instagram and saw some of her photos and videos. She is a splitting image of Aaliyah not only does she look like her but has the moves like Aaliyah and can act.

I don’t know what Zendaya did in the audtion but it boggles me because Lolita is definitely a good candidate even better than Keshia Chante. Wonder if they all audition for the same production because l beleive there’s also a Vh1 Aaliyah movie that’s in production. Hopefully if Aaliyah’s family gets on board l would love to see Lolita star as Aaliyah in the theater adaption.

  • https://twitter.com/eireee17 Ξiree’Ξ LΞIgh

Lisa Tucker from American Idol should be considered a option. She favors Aaliyah a whole lot. I been saying this for years. If A movie is done. Lisa would be the right choice. In the looks department. I’m not quite sure if she can act or not. She was on the game..as malik’s sister. But that was just a minor role.

  • Dee

I think people just plain forgot what Aaliyah looked like…

  • Tiffany

You don’t need someone who looks like Aaliyah. You need someone with acting talent who can dance!. The only actress on the list is KeKe Palmer. Cassie is a fail. She has a terrible time trying to sing her own music, let alone someone else music.

  • Vasquez

This makes a lot more sense than having Christina Milian trying to play Paulina Rubio!! They would have to put her in white face make up.

  • Carla

I’ll never for the life of me understand why people disrespect Aaliyah so much…she opened the doors for alot of female artist who are worshiped today (coughcoughbeyoncecoughrhianna) IJS. She was a beautiful person and I do think she deserves to have her story told but in the proper way. Her family should have complete control over this or don’t do it at all… I agree with 3 picks, Lolita Price, Sabi and Keisha Chante…this young lady they picked is not it.

    • Brittany

i totally agree. i don’t know WHY the hell they picked this lil no name teeny bopper that looks more like she’s asian and latina instead of picking a girl that’s more of Aaliyah’s complexion and has more of her look.

      • http://batman-news.com Raze

You don’t need to look like Aaliyah to act like her.
They can pick a girl that looks like Aaliyah’s clone for all I care, but if that girl can’t act then the movie will bomb.
If this ‘no name teeny bopper’ like you call her can act and sing, why shouldn’t she get a shot at the movie?

  • coco

i see alot of people putting ciara down ciara can not act or sing just because she can dance doesnt mean anything and she just had a baby i doubt she would want to do that and are we forgetting how tall she is aaliyah was probably around 5’3 ciara like 5’10 #youtiredit

    • Hot Medusa

      Aaliyah was 5’10″

  • Ash

Tiffany Evans, would maybe be good too, although she’s short. She definitely can say and has the dancing down. You can YouTube some of the work that shes down with Sean Bankhead.

  • Bwah

Solange? Really? MN just write Beyonce and Solange an open letter about how you really want to be their official stan site. You all are too thirsty for me. I love Solange but really?

  • Dmax Lomax

I say Kelly Row. She capture that Aaliyah spirit with that song (Motivation). And she can actually act.

  • YepYouKnowImRight

There is one person missing and that is motherfudgen CIARA

  • therealnumber1

Keshia Chante would have been perfect in my opinion, I think she was already staying with and getting to know Aaliyah’s family…but hey people had an issue when they found out J. Lo was going to be playing Selena and she killed it…people had an issue with Lil Mama playing Left eye and she killed it too…so maybe this Zendaya girl will be awesome as well and will make a lot of people eat their words.

  • lilmissmatched

Comparing ALL of these options against Zendaya…..I don’t see any real competition here. Zendaya is more popular that ALL Of these celebs right now and she has a close enough resemblance to Liyah, (looks and body). Plus she can dance and carries a tune pretty well. Overall she was the smartest, most marketable choice for this.

    • Brittany

no she doesn’t she looks NOTHING like her

  • Tamara Jones

It is not about looks…it’s about skills. Period.

  • RHONYC

Lolita hands down. she has Aaliyah’s long heart shaped face exactly. :)

  • Crimson

Get that Lolita chick some acting skills because she is my pick. I want someone who looks like her.

  • Audrey

Ppl keep mentioning Lolita Price like shes a DAMN Actress -____- She is a Youtuber lmao Aint no way production is gonan place no Youtuber as Aaliyah, similar appearance or not. And Keisha Chante seems like a nice girl but she’s like Superrrr corny to me lol Zero swag

    • Hot Medusa

How do you know that isn’t an actress? And Hollywood casts unknowns in lead roles all the time…

  • Hatetobehuman

    Why not Ciara???

  • Christan-Joy Demeritt

It is thousand times easier to get a person who looks kinda like Aaliyah and can actually act (Zendaya) to look more like her with makeup than it would be to get someone who looks just like her (LolitaPrice on IG) who might not act.
BTW, Zendaya is good hip hop dancer which she displayed on Dancing with the Stars and her Disney shows multiple times…

  • Trouble girl

How dare you guys try to degrade Aaliyah like this these women are waaay too old play her and half these women are fat .Aaliyah was 22yrs old when she died do you know how young that is? or you guys just plain stupid along w/ the writer who wrote this article.Zendaya is the right choice for this part she was picked for a reason .Are sure you guys are fans or just uncover haters……And by the way who cares if she’s biracial nobody had a problem when Halle Berry played Dorothy Dandridge and she was 100% black.

    • Kourtney

      THANK YOU!!!!!

    • StraightShooter

I am a fan and I want to see an Aaliyah biopic, but I just wish it could be done right and not thrown together.

    • Hot Medusa

Correction. Dorothy Dandridge was not 100% black. She was of multiracial admixture. Her mother was: Jamaican-Mexican-Native American; her father was Black and English…and it should be said that 100% of blacks in America are mixed with European, Asian and/or Native-American blood.

  • Kourtnwy

Well guess what? You don’t have to watch the movie when it comes out!!!!! I think we should be supportive of this young lady. Cause lord know if that was my baby and I was reading all this negativity I would be hurt. And those of you who have daughters would be as well. With all of this going on I HOPE Zendaya goes through with the role. I would hate for foolishness like this to crush her spirit in any way. Now THAT would hurt me. As an artist I know how hard it is to get jobs. She’s not gonna be a Disney Star forever and she’s trying to show people she can do other things. Who the hell are we to get in the way of that? If several of these women were in the talks and or auditioned there was a reason why they didn’t get picked…

    • Trisha_B

Agree! People are being so mean to this girl. & the sad part is that it’s grown a55 people being mean to this child smh

  • Tecana

Everybody is talking about the best Actress….isn’t this going to be a Lifetime movie….LOL

  • newdnewd

I started following lolita price on youtube because she looks dead on her and is soft spoken just like her, she would have been great

  • EnigmaticWoman

Personally I think Lisa Tucker (she played Malik’s sister, Poochie on “The Game”) would be a great fit. She acts and sings and the resemblance is CRAZY!!!

  • Shawndrea Rachelle

I’m still rooting for Lisa Tucker! (American Idol) and Malik’s sister from The Game

    • EnigmaticWoman

      TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

      • Shawndrea Rachelle

        Welp, what’s done is done

  • NegRican24

The ONLY actress that I have ever seen and thought “Aaliyah biopic candidate” instantly is the chick that was on The Game a few times as Malik Wrights sister. Does anyone know her name?

    • Shawndrea Rachelle

Lisa Tucker!!! I’ve been saying the same thing for sooooo long I’m so glad someone agrees

    • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

That is the best alternative that I’ve heard so far. She looks like her AND she’s an actress.

      • Trisha_B

But can she dance?! That’s like the number 1 thing, dancing. But look wise, she would have been a good choice for the role too

  • UGGGGHHHHH!!!

If we’re going off looks, the only one that looks like Aaliyah is Keshia Chante. Personally, I don’t think it’s about looks though. It’s all about whether or not she can pull it off. Save your critiques until you actually see it. Because all of your “cast suggestions” are falling on deaf ears. They already picked the girl. Get over it.

  • Tickles

I believe Zendaya will play her well! She has experience acting & singing. And she is black! I’m just sad at the loss still of a wonderful talent! I would’ve loved to have seen her evolve! Gone to soon! Love that her life’s story can be shared with a new audience. Zendaya has a broader following, where Aaliyah may even inspire new talents & dreams! What’s so wrong with that?

    • Hot Medusa

      She’s half black…

  • Cha-Cha322

Well if we’re going by acting skills then the only people we should be looking at on this list is KeKe and Megan! And off the list let’s go with Keri Washington, Zoe Saldana or even Gabrielle Union! (See how that sounds???) Its only natural for them to look for similarities in the actress that they choose, it will sell better! Do I think Zendaya was the best choice??? No…

    • Tracywon

Aaliyah was a young teen to early 20′s. These old women u want to see are 40 years old or close to it. This is a lifetime TV movie they r doing. No budget for a huge star like Zoe or anyone of her ilk that’s young. People r getting carried away.

      • Cha-Cha322

MY POINT EXACTLY!!!!!!!!! why do you think I put in parenthesis (see how that sounds)??? Someone mentioned that they should go based off of talent and who can deliver the role the best! Everyone I mentioned are great actresses but how would it look a 30-35 playing a 20 year old in a movie??? Clearly you just read the names I put and got ahead of my post, go back and reread and you will see who got carried away….

      • Cha-Cha322

Aaliyah was 22 to be exact.

      • Hot Medua

        40 is old? Mmkay…

By the way, if an actress can pull off a near perfect portrayal of Aaliyah, then what difference does it make how old/young she is. That’s why it’s called ACTING!

  • Lola

Zendaya has a baby face. I can’t see her having the sex appeal or edginess that Aaliyah had. I think someone a little more mature should have gotten the part.

  • scandalous7

    who cares

  • Tamara Jones

Why are some people sooooooo freaking ignorant? Everybody has something to say, but aren’t really saying anything. The casting is already done…this girl is going to play Aaliyah, like it or not. So…step out of your feelings and move on!! Period.
Oh & by the way, Zendaya is a great actress & role model for young girls. She had a very successful show on Disney called “Shake it Up.” She even has a book out for tween girls! Congrats to Zendaya!!

    • StraightShooter

Her family may not sign a music release.

      • Tamara Jones

Her uncle owns the rights to the music. Not her family. From I’ve read…he is on board with the project.

  • Guest

I think Lauren London would be a good fit!

    • Tamara Jones

      Ummm…no!

    • Lola

Oh, h*ll no! She can’t act a lick!

  • miya

you should check out the lady tashawn harris

  • miya

    she looks just like her

    • Brittany

      she looks nothing like her

  • MRSMATRIMONY

idc this bothers me, very uncomfortable with this… everybody I knew wanted to be Aaliyah, I grew up in that era…there was not one single song of hers I didn’t like and also her beauty speaks for itself.. this is my opinion, im offended they chose Zendaya being that she could never match Aaliyah’s beauty but just maybe she’ll do a good job acting as Aaliyah, just as good as Angela basset in ‘whats love got to do with it’ and THAT was a good movie

  • JV

people really are judgemental and racist…this girl is the fit for a role that is overdue. I am sure you all are Aaliyah fans such as myself (I actually remember and cried the day she died) I think the girl is perfect she can sing, act and dance. How y’all haters gona shade this young woman cuz she isn’t black enough!!!!! get real.blacks uplift other blacks well we are supposed to.

  • my picks

Keisha Chante or Sabi.. or I’m not watching!

    • Tamara Jones

Guess you won’t be watching, because they picked Zendaya!

  • ItMustBeJelly

Zendaya is an awesome choice! I will watch the movie because she’s a part of it, I’m a fan. Zendaya can dance and sing. She is of African American descent and Aaliyah wasn’t that dark anyway. Get over it people!

    • Tamara Jones

Right. I bet all these haters are gonna be glued to screen when it comes on!

    • StraightShooter

      The girl is biracial.

  • johnny romance

A couple points Aaliyah was an icon. My personal feeling is beyonce would be no one significant if Aaliyah hadnt died 2 while most of us who listened to and loved Aaliyah are older the younger generation does not And every person on this list has no major pull beyond possibly urban youth.Zendaya meanwhile got her start on Disney she has many young fans beyond the urban realm and will expose Aaliyah s music to a younger broader audience than everyone on this list combined .so screw that petition because keeping her memory alive and exposing her music to the next generation is whst will truly honor her memory and work and keep her timeless

    • Tamara Jones

      Agreed.

  • jeni

Folks are just mean… I saw the girl that cast as Aaliyah … her videos and her style mimics Aaliyah a lot

    • christmas808

I saw her videos she’s not hood enuf she dances like a white girl ugh….

      • Tamara Jones

Hood enough? That’s your memory of Aaliyah? Wow!!!

        • christmas808

Now a days people misinterpret hood for ghetto… I guess the more appropriate word would be G she’s not G enuf to play aaliyah… aaliyah had swag, she commanded the room, she was sensual yet G with her s h i t… they’re nothing sensual or G about Zendaya…cute girl but to play aaliyah…. NOOOoOoo

          • Tamara Jones

Did you go to the auditions or something? Because you are talking like you have first hand knowledge of what went down during casting calls! I’m sorry but people said the same thing about lil mama and she was great in the role of left eye.

            • christmas808

I didn’t care when lil mama played left eye to be perfectly honest, and I don’t have to be at the auditions to see that Zendaya will be a terrible Aaliyah…. her GOOFY a s s videos are all over youtube….bye Felicia

              • Tamara Jones

                Felicia??? Lol…who says that?
Well…the fact of the matter is…your opinion doesn’t matter. This girl is doing her thing in Hollywood & she is gonna do great in this movie! So…I guess you’re just gonna be mad! Oh well.

                • christmas808

You Zendaya fans live on top of delusional mountain…

                  • Tamara Jones

                    With you as the mayor!

  • Ashlynn

Meagan Good is way too old to even be considered in playing Aaliyah. Whoever suggested her must not be in their right mind on that. As for Zendaya, I’ll give her a shot. When news about this movie came out, I actually pictured her playing the part (if she wasn’t still a minor). She can sing, dance, act, very pretty, tall, & skinny just like Aaliyah was. Her being biracial doesn’t bother me; at least they didn’t get a blond-haired blue-eyed girl to play her. I think the some people that are complaining about her are also the same ones who complained about Lil Mama playing Left Eye in the TLC biopic last year. She ended up kicking a** in that movie; it helped revive her career after the Jay-Z mess on the VMA’s years ago.

    • Alexis Morris

zendaya might not favor aaliyah but what can they do with meghan good? doesnt she have tatooed makeup? something isnt right about her face, not saying she looks bad, but she just looks plastic or something.

  • Alexis Morris

    wth jene aiko? omg…

  • It’s me

    Can she rest in peace?

  • Aaliyah Noelle

The only person that should play Aaliyah is Drake.

    • more

      lmaooo!!

  • Sun-SHINE

I don’t think Cassie, Keshia Chante’, that Aiko jap, Monique Mosley, Keke Palmer, Zendaya Coleman, Bria Murphy or Meagan Good would be a good fit, but it’s not my money that will be wasted or spent on it!

  • True G.R.I.T.S

well, angela basset looks nothin like tina turner, but that didnt stop her from killin that role…if lil ma can act, makeup and wardrobe will do the rest…i cant wait.

    • Jeni

Don’t forget Lil Mama she did that. I think they made the perfect choice

  • cupcake

This is a casting I care about no way should disney girl play the beautiful aaliyah. She’s not even old enough to play her, her body hasn’t developed into a women’s body she still has a teen body and look. That lolita girl should definitely. I don’t want to watch the movie and think omg zendaya, I want to envision it’s aaliyah

    • Fifi

Aaliyah was her age when she started, so she’s actually perfect. All the other pics are too damn old. Aaliyah was in her very early twenties when she died.

      • Andrani

Yes and Aaliyah was also very small, like Zendaya. She was like a 32A cup size.

        • Aaliyah Noelle

The fact that you know her bra size … That’s creepy af

          • Andrani

Nah, just using common sense from observation. I noticed because it’s unusual to have a bust that small. .unless you’re a model or something. I’m that size and I’m not used to seeing it, so it stuck out to me. Hopefully that clarifies it for you.

            • Kbunny

Aaliyah was a skinny woman but zendaya looks very young. The 17-22 year olds of the 90s tends to look older than the 17 to 22 year olds of 2000s/10s look. I wonder how hair and make up are going to do to make her look older.

              • Andrani

That I agree with. Aaliyah had a more mature look. I think makeup will fix that.

    • Shawndrea Rachelle

OH cause Aaliyah was so voluptuous and curvy herself.

    • Kourtney

Ummmmm last time I checked Aaliyah wasn’t curvy at all! That’s why I identified with her growing up cause she was thin just like me!

  • smittyt

    DRAKE SHOULD PLAY TUPAC!

    • Andrani

      lol

    • Shawndrea Rachelle

Lmaooo that really made me laugh

  • Trisha_B

The only person from this list that really resembles is Keisha Chante. But people need to understand it takes more than looking similar to pull off acting as someone. You gotta get the mannerisms down pact, body movements, voice, etc. you can get an Aaliyah clone, but if that person can’t dance, act, capture Aaliyah’s emotions & mannerisms then the movie will be a waste. If these girls auditioned for the role, obviously they were lacking in some areas. I mean, wouldn’t you rather have someone who actually embodies Aaliyah? They can easily trick the eyes to make the person look like her.

    • Chelsea M

Well Jennifer Lopez looked like Selena but never did much acting before that but with tons of research and training, she KILLED that role. I think they should have gotten the first girl and trained her to act, dance and lip sync (I’m not trying to hear anybody sing aaliyah songs b lol)

      • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

Jennifer Lopez was an established actress when she played Selena. There was even this same uproar about them using her instead of one of the zillion fans that auditioned for the part.

        • Andrani

As a Selena fan, in my opinion, Jennifer Lopez looked nothing like Selena. Not in the face. Body wise, yes, but thats about it. Not even with all that makeup on. I believe she was chosen mainly because she was a trained dancer and could pick Selena’s moves up quickly. Not even her mannerisms matched Selena’s in the movie. She didn’t convince me.

          • Larry

JLO looked nothing like Selena and the Mexicans did not want a Puerto Rican playing Selena because they had nothing in common. They used makeup and hair to try to make JLO resemble Selena but Selena was far prettier than JLO. Plus, they were two entirely race/ethnicities.

            • Andrani

              Precisely my point.

            • Vasquez

EXACTLY!!!! JLO did not look like SELENA even after the make up artists finished with her she still looked like J-LO trying to look like Selena.

      • Dee

JLO was in MANY shows and movies before her role as Selena…

  • Ayisha

I’m gonna a have to go with Cassie

    • Aaliyah Noelle

Noooo way ! You tried it lol

      • Ayisha

From the list above yes I’m gonna have to go with Cassie.

        • Aaliyah Noelle

Look wise ? Singing wise ? Why Cassie ?

    • marshefen

      Has she ever acted?

      • Ayisha

Please sign my petition I want Cassie to play Aaliyah. Thanks lol

    • Tamara Jones

      Please have a

    • MissMeWithThat

Child please, don’t nobody want to see Diddy’s side chick, when was the last time she did anything of relevance…posting pics on IG of your side chick status does not account for relevance

      • Ayisha

Ummmm we are having a friendly discussion. There is no need to rant. You don’t agree so move along.

  • Kbunny

Even though I question lifetime’s casting for this role. And understand how colorism affects blacks in the entertainment industry/modeling industry. I’m gonna give this young lady a chance, because I’m pretty sure she deserves it. I know she will do a great job!!! Can’t wait to watch

P.S its just life time… something is always off about their character bio flick selection..

    • Trouble girl

Not if her family stops it ,go to tmz I don’t know what’s their problem. It was rumor for yrs that a big screen movie was in the works and the director of dream girls was behind it they didn’t support that neither so now this is a problem too.Aaliyah legacy will fade it’s like her family wants to forget about her how selfish.

      • Kbunny

I felt that vh1 wanted to make a movie about her and maybe lifetime wanted to rush to make it before they did. But I understand if Aaliyah’s family didn’t want a biopic about her from lifetime. It might be emotional plus lifetime will get all of the profit.

  • Kambriel

Whoever was tossing these names out needs to reel them back in most of these ladies do not bear a resemblance. I cant focus on the acting if I am now able to visially see “Aaliyah”..ijs

  • morgan

All I can say is, Zendaya does not look like aaliyah, and I would not personally pick her for this role… Therefore, those acting skills better be on point. Prove me wrong girl.

    • Tamara Jones

Why does she need to look like her to play the role? She needs to be able to deliver the role…in all aspects. That’s what this is about. The best ACTRESS!!

      • morgan

Well TAMARA, thank you for your response. It wasn’t really needed but thank you honey. Overall, that is what I was basically saying. She better deliver, this could be the start of her movie career.

        • Tamara Jones

Your Welcome. Have you ever seen Zendaya act? I think that part speaks for itself. She had a hit show on Disney. I think she is a great young lady. Research her.

          • morgan

*You’re welcome*. Any who, you’re right she is a great young lady. Have a nice day. :D

  • BadAzz Bee

    Um Zendaya is BLACK

    • Guestest

      She’s mixed in my opinion..

      • Amiee

What you just said is actually true. Zendaya is half-Black (Dad) & half-White (Mom).

        • Guestest

          I know.

      • BadAzz Bee

Yes she is and her father is black. They say u are whatever ur father is. In that case our president is not black either ijs

        • Guestest

“They” lied.. And i knows he’s not black, he is mixed race as well

        • Shawndrea Rachelle

          Is African not black?

          • Hot Medusa

No. Being African and Black are two different things. Africa is a continent where people of different “races” are born and live on; it is not an ethnicity or race.

            • Shawndrea Rachelle

So what do you consider Barack Obama

      • Kourtney

Wow! Are we really doing thins? Mixed people are considered BLACK! President Obama is technically mixed but do you go around saying our President is mixed?! Probably not!

        • Guestest

Mixed people are not considered black to everyone, obviously. I still say that she is mixed race.. Her mom is WHITE and her dad is black. This is how i feel now get over it because i am not going back and forth with you. Obama is mixed.

          • Kourtney

No one is upset sweetheart. Lol

          • Vasquez

Mixed people are not a separate race and yeas, they are considered black in America. That so-called Mixed category only works with Hispanic people like you and in south America, but in the west they have their own notion of what and who people are. Zendaya is black by her ethnic group, her culture and indeed her heritage. I know a lot of black people who are lighter than she is.

            • Guestest

I know black people who are lighter than her as well… She’s still mixed in my opinion and many others

            • StraightShooter

She is racially not black, to be racially black you need to have two black parents. Ethnicity and culture are different, however you don’t know how that girl was raised.

        • Dee

I agree….. one minute black people are clinging to the “one drop” rule, the next minute they are all “such and such is mixed”. Like Ashley Banks said…. MAKE UP YOUR MIIINNNDDDDD

      • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

She’s as black as President Obama and Halle Berry. Since when did black folk start rejecting biracial folk? I remember black folk being pretty traumatized about Tiger saying he is not black. Now we kicking folks out? Yall do know that Zendaya is a child right? Maybe we should reconsider all this racist hate we are throwing her way. #NoRIP

        • Guestest

If i were rejecting her i would say that she is only white and not black. She is mixed race in my opinion.. Why do you people care so much? DAMN! AND WHAT HATE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.?

          • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

So what is wrong with a biracial person playing Aaliyah?

            • Guestest

Please please please tell me where i said something was wrong with her playing Aaliyah… *waits*

              • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

Several people have said it. That part of my comment was directed to the people who have been spewing racist rants against this child. If that doesn’t apply to you then don’t take it personally.

            • Vasquez

Makes more sense than a black Hispanic playing a white Latino. At least Zendaya favors Aaliyah. Try having Zoe Saldana or Gloria Torres trying to play Paulina Rubio or Selena! That wouldn’t fly to anybody, especially to white Latinos.

            • Hot Medusa

              Nothing!

          • Vasquez

NO one in their right mind would call Zendaya white she looks like a light skinned black girl.

            • Guestest

When did i say completely white? I said she was mixed. White mom and black dad..

        • StraightShooter

These people are not black. It is what it is. Many older people hold on to old ways, however Zendaya is not a factual representation of a Black woman. Neither are Halle Berry or President Obama. representation. How could they be? Biracial people have their own struggle and Black people have their own struggle. Stop trying to force biracial people into the Black category. This is not the jim crow era.

          • Hot Medusa

BEST COMMENT TODAY!!! Thank you for telling it like it is!

    • tq

Nah she’s mexican or something… far from black

      • BBeautiful chordd

No she’s actually black and white!

      • bigbootyjudy

No she isn’t Mexican she is black her father is black the African gene is a dominating gene which make her black I wonder how you feel about the POTUS? I guess he’s Mexican too Since his mom is white and his dad is black…Y’all bugging about what the girl look like and saying Aaliyah would be turning in her grave and blah blah lol sounding like a bunch of STANS Zendaya acting chops are bigger than anyone on this list except for Keke Palmer… Yall play too much with that she’s not black she looks Mexican… If everyone went off that we would be SOL if yall that salty about it go gather your money up together and make your own movie and hire Keisha Chante #getyourlife

        • Trouble girl

I said the same thing too ,I’m sick of the e complaining if its that much of a problem that this girl is playing Aaliyah then why don’t they come up with the money and make the film themselves and that way they pick whoever they want until then I would really like for them to shut up already!!!.

          • STFU

I know right. It’s like stfu please! Always got something to complain about….

        • Vasquez

Right and Selena Gomez is Mexican and looks it even though her mom is white anglo.

      • Larry

Like Saldana is far from Latin in that case.

    • more

She is mixed!! please stop claiming everybody i’m shor her spanish side would never claim you -_-

      • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

She doesn’t have a Spanish side. She’s half black and half white.

        • more

that still don’t make her full black…………………….

          • Vasquez

Seal is full black just like Pitbull is full LATINO.

      • Guestest

What spanish side? She is black and white dum dum!!

        • Vasquez

Spanish is white European period. Unfortunately, the deluded dark skinned Hispanics on this story and other black blogs don’t want to face reality.

      • Vasquez

Spanish people will never claim a black Hispanic honey. Everybody knows that Zendaya is black but nobody accepts that Zoe Saldana, Lala, Evelyn are Latin since the entire world believes that Latino means white and Spanish looking.

      • BadAzz Bee

Um I am Spanish I believe she is black and white

        • more

Thanks for the correction her WHITE SIDE WONT CLAIM YOU

          • BadAzz Bee

I’m sure they wouldn’t cause I’m not white. Now let’s talk about the cousins who breeded and made you. I don’t have time for your uneducated remarks now have have a wonderful day

      • BadAzz Bee

I am Puerto Rican and BLACK claimed by both I’m not aruging I’m just stating facts mixed is not a race I embrace both sides of my family

      • BadAzz Bee

        Sure not shor

    • Larry

Black is not just about skin tone it encompasses more than that it is: CULTURE. HISTORY. CONSCIOUSNESS. RACE. HERITAGE. Zendaya and Aaliyah are practically the same color and both are beautiful and talented. This is perfect casting and she will do a great job. Their are no starling differences between them. A difference would be Gloria Torres trying to play Gloria Estefan that would not come close to being believable since they are of two different colors and races even though they are both Cuban. Which is why a Black Hispanic could never play a white one.

      • BadAzz Bee

        Exactly

    • Dee

I agree….. one minute black people are clinging to the “one drop” rule, the next minute they are all “such and such is mixed”. Like Ashley Banks said…. MAKE UP YOUR MIIINNNDDDD

  • Guest

Why not pick the BEST actress instead of focusing on someone who looks like her, yet can’t act a lick!

    • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

I want Hollywood to hire a look alike instead of a real actor just one time so people can get a taste of what a disaster that be.

  • guest

There should be a revolt over this. Where are Dame and Jayz, Missy, Tim. It’s not just a tv movie it is a icon being disrespected next they will have Justin Timberlake playing Pac.

    • Trisha_B

      What makes Aaliyah an icon?

      • guest

        nothing

        • more

          lmaooo!

      • Aaliyah Noelle

Her music still being played left & right. She influenced a lot of people. A lot of songs I hear today have some of her lyrics in them. People are always quoting her.

      • Tq

She was my icon, a young talented woman that was black… her music never gets old + it isn’t all sexed out.

        • FireRed

Truth!! Why are ppl dissing her i liked the keisha chante girl, but zendanya will do a good job i believe. ..

      • Emily

She was a very talented, beautiful, young woman who had a huge career ahead of her & would’ve been a huge star. I think she’d be where Beyoncé & Rihanna are now in terms of being a worldwide phenomenon had she not died so young. People say the same things about talent like Selena, James Dean, & Jimi Hendrix all the time (very talented with huge careers ahead of them but their lives were cut short).

        • Trisha_B

I agree, I think she would have been huge if she didn’t pass so soon. She was doing more acting, which was catapulting her career!

          • exactly

yep! She could sing, dance and act… Loved her in Queen of the Damned…

        • B Cooper

I’ve only seen and heard one video/song by Aaliyah, from the Nutty Professor soundtrack, “Are You That Somebody?”. I’ve been told that was not her best work. If this is true and she’d lived and continued to sing, dance and perform, she would have been where Beyonce is now BEFORE they (Destiny’s Child) really came onto the scene. We may not have even heard of Rihanna, Ashanti and some others. I am in my 50′s and I value music and musicians differently than my younger counterparts, so this is only an old lady’s opinion.

      • Claudia D James

for her generation she was till beyonce came along

        • Chandra

You guys are delusional, if you were truly from that era you would know that Brandy out shined Aaliyah and Monica. GTFOH Brandy was Beyonce for that generation. Check Brandy’s credits, she was multi-platinum, had her own show, first black female to play lead role in a disney movie, and her own doll. I’m sure there is more.

          • Aaliyah Noelle

Even though Aaliyah is dead she still relevant. Brandy only relevant now Bc she’s constantly being asked about Ray J antics

            • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

No need to disrespect Brandy’s accomplishments to support Aaliyah. Brandy stays working.

              • biglittlemason3

Love that Brandy girl…can’t deny her talent. I loved Aaliyah too, baby girl was well on her way!

          • Christan-Joy Demeritt

            I agree about B rocka…

          • vigorlilover

Sorry but Monica was better than Brandy any day. Brandy, just like Beyonce had her daddy making sure she came out ahead of everybody else.

      • Chandra

I’m still trying to remember what happened during Aaliyah’s career that will be interesting in a movie, besides her marriage to R Kelly.

        • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

There were no blogs back then so we didn’t know the interesting parts. Her image was more guarded than Beyonce’s. If she were alive today people would be slamming her on blogs and social media just like they do everyone else. She wasn’t a saint.

          • Chandra

You are definitely correct, but she still does not need a biopic IJS. All these people ranting and raving about her probably are not the generation that grew up following Aaliyah. Myself being a person that grew up in the 90′s can tell you Aaliyah was respected for her dancing more than her singing voice. FYI the only person that makes Aaliyah relevant today is really Drake. Our society tends to support artists after they pass. While she was living at that time Aaliyah had some success, but never a superstar. All these kids can say what they want but anyone in the age ranges from 30-35 can tell you Aaliyah was not an icon. Wearing shades or your hair to cover one side of your face does not make you legendary. When you have an artist like Ray Charles that was a legend his biopic was much more interested and that why it was a motion picture on the big screen, instead of a undeveloped movie shown on VH1 like the TLC story.

            • Andrani

Agree 100%. The worship did not begin until after she died, which I, as a TLC, Boys II Men, Brandy, MC, MJ etc. fan never understood. I’m 28 and ppl like us were actually around in her prime. It’s not hard to tell a persons age range based on their comments. Most people who were actually around when she was alive know what the deal is.

              • StraightShooter

I also was around during Aaliyah’s time and I grew up listening to her. It doesn’t matter if people became fans after she passed or not. If people want to see the film, why are you so pressed about it?

            • StraightShooter

This is your opinion and that’s fine, but if people want to see her biopic why not? I grew up listening to Aaliyah and to me she was an icon. I would go see her film in theaters and so would many others.

      • miya

she was an icon on the rise had she lived she would have been bigger than Beyonce. Not that i hate Bey i love her. I just think she was just hitting her stride as an artist and her life was cut short much like Selena’s life.

        • Aaliyah Noelle

Beyoncé still woulda been huge. Both would have been huge.

        • duh

what is an icon on the rise? you either are or arent! and she wasnt there yet!

      • Christan-Joy Demeritt

        Her tragic death…that’s abiut it.

      • az

Aaliyah is an icon as much as Pac and Big

    • Claudia D James

lol @ justin timberlake playing pac! you are %100 right

    • Tamara Jones

Lol! Oh the ignorance. Really, a revolt? Build a bridge and get OVER it…asap

    • http://thegameonbetblog.tumblr.com/ The Game Fan

Zendaya is a black CHILD who has done nothing to anyone. I sure hope she doesn’t view her black heritage negatively because of all the blatant racism she has faced over this role. Shameful. #NoRIP

    • az

Revolt for what? I just think Zendaya has too much of a baby face and she isnt as tall as Aaliyah.

  • Tq

I’m upset, Aaliyah waa my icon when I was younger. She was an african american talented woman. They’re doing her wrong! Where’s the petition?! the

    • carmatogo

      zendaya is african american

      • Boom

Eh I suppose. Her father is African, her mom yt. Lolita Prices is a great option though.

      • more

I need to do a google search cause she look spanish to me 0_0

    • more

Aaliyah is mixed. They just need to find someone who is mixed but who has the same skin tone -_-

      • Audrey

She is a lightskin black girl like myself. Same complexion, same hair texture, similar features.. give it a rest -_-

        • freeborn

Don’t know what your problem is…it’s true. She had recent Native American ancestry through her grandmother and it was evident in her features.

          • Audrey

            lmao ok buddy

      • Dee

Either you are being sarcastic or you MUST be born after August 2002… Cuz there’s NO way LMAO

  • YoManwantsit

Let zendaya play cassie(ain’t no body gonna make a biopic about her irrelevant a$$) Aaliyah is fighting in her grave over this f**kery

    • Guestest

      Lol

    • Dmax Lomax

I say Kelly Row if anyone. She capture that Aaliyah spirit with that song (Motivation). And she can actually act.

      • duh

        your eyes broken?

  • YoManwantsit

Logan browning (jelena) from hit the floor would actually be perfect

    • Guestest

      Hmmmm… maybe!

    • christmas808

no she would not she’s too short…

      • Ascuncion

Wait until they get around to making a movie about the life of Rita Moreno Lala Vasquez or any other black Puerto Rican actress would never be considered for the role. Rita is considered to be in a higher, different racial category than Lala even though they are both Puerto Ricans. But what kills me is the fact that light skinned Puerto Ricans would not stand for it. They would allow JLO to play Chita Rivera because JLO is light, but Lala? Not in a million years. The colorism in the Puerto Rican community is strict!

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/TheShellBeeNetwork Shells

Can you explain ‘higher, different racial category’ than Lala? I’m not Puerto Rican, but I’m feeling some kinda way about that.

        • Ceasar

I get what you mean because white, full Latinos only want to be represented on film by people who look like them.

    • lisa

CTFU! That choice is as whack as that show. I say Joy Bryant!

      • marshefen

Joy Bryant is too old. She’s 39.

        • Aaliyah Noelle

Daaammmnnnn 39?! she does’t even look it.

      • lilmissmatched

Joy can’t sing, and she’s brown skinned, and looks nothing like her.

        • Hot Medusa

At 39 she may be “too old” to play Aaliyah, but her skin tone is just fine…

    • marshefen

I think she’s too short, but I do like the fact that she can act and dance.
