Hey – I have black friends and white friends – each views the world from a different perspective – their is nothing wrong with that- it’s just how we humans tick!!!!

  • Jameka

Instead of Bobby Beown, they should have added “Candy Rain”

  • Shay

I think it needed AT LEAST ONE Whitney Houston song because black women love Whitney… but good list over all lol

  • BabyBZ

Don’t forget Vesta’s “Congratulations”. My girlfiends and I were in grade school belting that one out.

  • Angel Halo Demeritt

What about my sister Brandy “I Wanna Down”?!

  • Meganjerai

Cause I Love You by Lenny Williams is a great song but an odd choice for this list.

  • http://www.cverez.com C Verez Quality Hair

How can you have this list without including Brandy? She was one of the, if not the most known R & B female artist of the mid to late nineties. Every one was singing her songs, including you.

    • Tee Elyse

I was just getting ready to say, where’s Brandy??

  • Voice of Reason

I didn’t know Cause I Love You. I feel like I should have my black card revoked. Lol. I would have also included Let’s Stay Together by Al Green, Remember the Time by Michael Jackson, You Called and Told Me by Jeff Red, Casanova by Levert… Too many more to name! Black music is the best!! But yes my list is for those over 30.

  • Bee

Monica “Don’t take it personal” and Aaliyah….every song lol. Oh, and “As we lay”…forgot a few ;-)

  • dramic91

Haha a lot of these were some of my favorite songs growing up. I was an 8 year old white boy singing Weak at the top of my lungs. 90s R&B was on point. Still groove to these songs today!

  • JJ

    No Luther????? tsk tsk

    • Voice of Reason

      Never Too Much!!! Yessssss!

  • Ms_Sunshine9898

    where”s candy rain?!!!

  • Chloe Anderson

Yall forgot Sunshine Anderson’s “Heard it All Before”

  • Kira H.

I knew all of the songs except one: The Lenny Williams one. I have heard it before, but I find all of that begging annoying and did not file it in my memory. What about: “Can We talk” by Tevin Campbell? I know that should have been on this list.

  • Christan-Joy Demeritt

I sang Weak at my 5th grade graduation (I’m 30)

  • SPM

OK how ‘Before I let go’ and ‘I will survive’ not on this list???????

  • pinkvanity

    They forgot about that Inoj!

  • karen

Karyn White Superwoman is my favourite song of all time!!

  • http://arafricaine.blogspot.com/ Arafricaine

Lenny Williams, the fugees and mary j blige are the only one i know the words to.

  • Destiny

Good list, but where is Tevin Campbell’s song “Can we talk”

  • Anastasia Shirai

Maybe not the whole song, but how about that small duet of “His Eye is On The Sparrow” from Sister Act II?! I know I was not the only one belting this song with her bff! “UH UHHHH this is for church” . Haha Sorry this list was too fun I ended up going more down memory lane. Hehe

  • Beeruth

Yea I definitely know every last one of these songs lol

  • guest

I’ll admit I don’t know the words to every song on this list. I’ve heard them all enough though. The only song missing is ‘Don’t Take it Personal’ by Monica. Now I do know that song my heart. Lol.

    • guest

      *by*

  • Nikki

All I knew was Weak needed to be on this list. Thank you.

  • Shae88

Umm… what about Ghost town DJs’ song, “My Boo”? My coworkers and I randomly blurt out singing this at least 3 times a week lol

        • kb

    • Tee Elyse

Everyday I pray my heart can WINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN…. every night I pray I can call you my MANNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, yeah, yeah! I need you! I WANT you! To have you, hold you, squeeze you! So I’m going out! Every weekend! Just to see my boo agaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn…..

  • Sasha

I was kinda disappointed. Some were ON POINT, others I don’t even know (“Weak”). Smdh at I’m going down

    • Anala

How old are you and where are you from? I’m 20 and from VA and I know all these songs. This is not intended as an insult I’m just curious.

    • Nikki

What??? Weak is the #1 song that should’ve been on this list. No question!

    • Lex

How tf do you not know “Weak” by SWV? I’ve been singing that song word for word for as long as I can remember.

  • Michele82

Whoever came up with this list is telling their age lol. It’s all good because I’m likely around that age too. But I wish there were a couple modern songs like Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” or maybe a Keyshia Cole track like “Love.”

    • Lex

That’s what I was thinking. This should be titled, “Songs Every Black Girl 25 and Over Knows”. Lol, I don’t know what these youngins of today are listening to.

*I already know those the few girls who are 24 and younger who know these songs are gonna come for this post, lol. I’m speaking in general terms.

  • Vandellish

    Prince ‘Adore’

  • I.am.ShaRee.Amor

feels like Jon B. They Don’t know, should’ve been on this list and a R Kelly jam

  • BELLANOiRE

that Lenny Williams tho… even in college (05-09), in the middle of a hood party, they would crank that out and everybody saaaaaannnnng like they were in the middle of the living room at their grandma’s performing, GOOD STUFF! lol

    • MrsMommy

YEAH, and they were all drunk too! Without some alcohol in ya, that song sounds just like something a downtrodden cotton picker would sing while toiling in the hot assed sun.

  • Momma Dee Tha Q.U.E.E.N

Guilty, im so guilty of them all!!

  • Bullheadedtaurus

Yeah….I know all those songs. But the Wayne Brady/Mike Tyson version of Every Little Step has me crying EVERY. TIME

  • Ashley

You all forgot keyshia cole-love, and inoj- i want to be your lady baby,

  • Marley80

I had to pause from clicking through the rest of the slideshow when I got to “Superwoman.” That was THE jam. Nice list! J. Holiday’s version of “I’m Telling You..” is definitely lip sync only. LOL

    • Ronnasher Anthony

Hunnnnnyyyyyy LIFE WAS GIVEN TO ME LOL

  • lol

I swear you people are black people obsessed..what about songs white people know the words to? smdh!

    • Guest

Umm..this website is for african american women, so of course the writers are going to be ‘black people obsessed’.

    • msblakes

Wow! You didn’t take a couple seconds to look around this website before posting that comment, did you?? While you’re ‘shaking your damn head’, why don’t you glance around this website and look at who their audience is. If you want a white person’s POV, this isn’t the place. Sorry, kiddo.

    • speaksthetruth

Please forgive me for stating the obvious but the name of this website is madamenoire in French. In English is women black also known as black women. So yes I guess they might be a little “black obsessed”

    • Shakira Jihann Harris

You sound a tad angry that there is a website geared toward Black women, RAN by Black women. Especially since the majority of websites are tailored for the tastes, likes, dislikes, etc of Caucasian women. We’re just not supposed to have ANYTHING, huh?!??! According to you. smdh just hateful!
