The 2013 BET Awards aired Sunday night and with it came a lot of both criticism and praise for its performances, fashion, and awards. For actress Meagan Good though, more criticism seemed to abound.

The 31-year-old actress and wife of 7th Day Adventist preacher/film producer, DeVon Franklin wore a rather revealing dress to present the Gospel Award. The deep blue dress plunged to just above her navel and the material was so thin that her n*pples were visible.

Her outfit was met with adoration from some and questions from others wondering why she would choose such a revealing dress to present an award for a religious music genre. Though some of the comments left on her Instagram photos and other news articles were clearly harsh at times, the question still remains: “Why?”

Good finally responded with a defensive and “woe is me” message:

“…I don’t feel convicted about this at all. my spirit is saddened that our people only know one way to think and process things..

I’m not any less holy because the dress I wore -I may not be who people think I should be -but I’m morphing into exactly who God wants me to be.. My excuse is never “I’m going to do me” and I don’t feel that I need to make an excuse or defend or what I wore .. I know I have a responsibility -and I’m working daily to fulfill the full potential of all God has created me to be..

A dialogue was started about my character, integrity, my walk with God and my Husband -simply based on a dress that I wore.., Of course I’m going to have a reaction to people saying negative things… It’s just sad.. Makes me sad not regretful.. My heart and spirit is always open to whatever my Father would want to share with me… And my spirit tells me to be exactly who I authentically am -because that’s what’s going to reach who I was authentically designed to touch.. people like me who are often misunderstood and told their cut of God’s promise -because they don’t look the role …when God doesn’t care about us “looking the role”..he is always cared about bringing us in -and us being whatever we need to be to bring Those left out in ..

And it just makes me sad that us as Christians can’t see beyond our initial reaction and don’t seek God before the attack other brothers and sisters …and never think for one moment that: God knows what he’s doing and he uses everything for his glory .. and he has a plan for every specific situation.. I had intentions on anything .. Merely picked a dress I saw and loved … God knows my heart and that I didn’t do anything wrong ..”

Uh… Come on now, Meagan. “God doesn’t care about us ‘looking the role'”? While no one should attack anyone as viciously as some have attacked Good – calling her outside of her name and such – how does one really justify being a “first lady” and dressing so inappropriately for such a cause? No one is perfect, but there is a difference between making blatantly poor choices and then using “we shouldn’t judge” to cover ourselves. Decorum is key as a Christian. I’m sure there were plenty of other more appropriate yet equally alluring dresses that Good could have chosen. And again, her choice and all the attention it has garnered beg the question, “Why?”

Do you think Meagan Good’s dress was inappropriate? Why? Do you think she plays on the sympathies of others to make an excuse for her poor choices?

The Bible says that women should dress modestly, not so sure this dress is what it meant. Don’t do anything that offends the Name of Jesus.

  • Scarlett Scar

You are a Man of God’s wife. Why show all that? You claim Jesus? BE MODEST, Sister!!!

  • Scarlett Scar

the dress IS NOT HOLY. she don’t have to show all that flesh. nope.

  • Job

MsBeautifulEgypt, said “People need to leave Meagan Good alone. I think she looked very good in her dress for the BET Awards. There wasn’t nothing wrong with it, we as Christian’s forget she is still young and in the acting world. So she has the right to still look good and dress apart. Why are we so quick to judge this Meagan Good, we need to look into the mirror and worry about our own selves.” Oh we’ll leave her alone, she’s a poser, there is a vacuum of Biblical Christian doctrine being expressed in your words. Let me tell you what the Lord God Almighty says about such people, or anyone, pimp, drug pusher, a person who is grooming a child to molest them, whoever is doing tempting Luke17:1 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting! 2 It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin. I wonder what size millstone will fit her, because the lack of wisdom and discernment she displayed in wearing that dress indicates she doesn’t know God, if she doesn’t repent at some level, it will earn her a free trip on the cruise ship called the Mill Stone. Wake up, causing people to be presented before their eyes with a overly revealing dress isn’t looking good, it’s looking like you belong to the oldest profession in the world. Let me clue you in one just one more item, she has no rights, if she is an authentic, genuine believer, when she got born again, the old Meagan died, that old thing is dead, that’s what giving your life to God means, total surrender, she certainly has no platform as a Christian to dress like that, listen to this, and tell me she doesn’t fit the bill, Colossians 3:5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.(like “looking good” in front of ppl to earn praise from men, strike one ) Have nothing to do with sexual immorality (strike two), impurity,(strike three) lust (strike four), and evil desires. Ask yourself, why would anyone wear a dress like that unless they want to seduce someone??

  • VJ

Being a good person has nothing to do with what you wear. Some people need to get a life. Focus on things that are actually important. If God was so against breasts, he wouldn’t have given them to women, right? There’s no need to hide your body or be ashamed of it.

  • JTerry

Another judgmental article. It saddens me that people call themselves Christians but are the first to tear down and stone someone. And even if they’re not Christians and condemning; it’s a freakin’ DRESS. Worn to an awards ceremony; not the church house or the White House. Is there really nothing else to worry about besides this?

  • CA95616

Sorry too much on show in my opinion. I would say that irrespective of her religious beliefs.

  • fankansas

    Really and truly it’s irrelevant
what we have to say as she will do what she wants to do. However with that said
I would encourage her to read what God says in the matter. Her appearance is to
be modest in apparel and that (1 Timothy 2:9 ”

    1 Timothy 2:9

    King James Version (KJV)

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with
shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or
costly array;) That’s what the word of God says and because she is professing
it people are asking for her life to match up with it. It goes beyond
“seeing a pretty dress and wanting to wear it”, come now let’s not be
so naive. I refuse to believe that she wore this dress with no reservations
(even the smallest one)! Let’s not act like the victim and be real with
ourselves. What you choose to wear is your choice but the minute, the very minute
that you are professing to be something baby you better believe that there will
be an expectation that people will demand for you to uphold. It’s not judgment
    its life.

  • J

Absolotuely done with this site. We as black women are critcized, every day. Let’s lift each other up. Mrs. Good, her actions and beliefs are between her and God.

  • Rochelle

If I looked like Meagan, I’d probably wear a dress like that too! But, it’s what’s inside that counts. We shouldn’t judge her character based on a dress she wore to an event

  • mooney65

If she was looking for attention she sure got it because I had no idea who she was prior to the awards!

  • mooney65

Let me say that there is no way a true christian doesn’t see anything wrong with such a dress! This is not about judging! Wonder what her husband would say if sisters in the church started wearing very revealing dresses like this!

  • rayhigh

Sluts are cool. Even religious ones.

  • Dessalines

How about we ALL take a time out and start doing the one thing needful – minding our own business. As long as Megan and her husband are happy with her dress – then it’s none of the rest of us business. It’s not so difficult, get up and turn off the TV or change the channel.

  • Alexis Morris

I wish she had worn some kinds of bra with the dress. I just cant sit there and stare at some womans pure shape of her breast showing thru her clothes like that. And if she wants to be married to a member of the clergy there are certain roles and expectations, with that comes modesty and humility. She doesnt have to wear her clothes up to her throat but that dress is just so revealing. and she is not that young. she isnt 18-21. She is either on the high side of 20 or 30, that is old enough to not use age as an excuse.

  • LT

People, Christ died for the sins of the world. If you believe that, why do so many of you make light of that? Holiness is not an option for the believer. We slip up but we cannot Justify a very intentional deviation from the calling on our lives.

  • LT

Well, the whole message of the cross is repentance. Most people who call themselves Christians are not born-again and therefore speak only their opinion not the Word. Stop calling folks judgmental and hypocrites simply b/c they call out blatant sin. Most people are simply still married to the world and get highly offended when confronted with the truth that you can’t play with God. Read the Word and quite fooling yourselves before you discover too late that you didn’t really know Him.

  • ARag66

To nominate someone for a gospel award that was VERY INAPPROPIATE!! Oh she looked great..but for what she was presenting, I thought that what she had on wasn’t for that occasion. You don’t have to be a prude to be a Christian..but that wasn’t a smart choice. But in the long run..she got what she wanted..PUBLICITY!!!

    • rayhigh

You don’t have to be a prude to be a Christian..but it helps.

  • Is It 5:00 Yet?

    1 Tim 2:9,10 –
“Likewise I desire the women to adorn themselves in well‐arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb, but in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works.”

    Enough said.

  • Kimmeh

WHO CARES?! Don’t worry about her and what she’s doing. Worry about yourself, and what YOU’RE doing. ” Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone.”

  • Reduxockham

I think it is none of your business. Vultures. Let be.

  • Viewer who saw this.

She should know better. Simple as that. But, she is still growing till she finds the wisdom and maturity she desperately needs.

  • Jusbreal

Okay, I hate when watered down saints come on and share their watered down two cents. No woman of God especially one who calls herself holy would ever wear a dress like that. She is right it does not make her any less Holy, it makes her who she is and if she had the holy spirit in her it would have told her it was inappropriate for a pastors wife to be showing all but her nipples in public anywhere. So what she is young, so what she is an actress is that what her explanation would be to God, if He chose to judge her on that day? What sets us apart if were walking around like the rest of the world? Now I will agree, it doesn’t diminish her Christianity, but Holiness is not to be played with, look it up before you opinionate on it and ever think its okay to walk around with her breast hanging out, point blank period. This is not judgment this is reality..

  • Kitten Roulaine

The dress was inappropriate for a Gospel awards show. She could have gotten away with the split but not the bosom hanging out, it was too much and she cannot be the example for Christians. Perhap’s at a Hip-Hop show, but not before ” the Church” people.

    • Pivyque

She was at the BET awards. Gospel was just the category she was presenting…

      • Kitten Roulaine

Ahhhh, ok. Still too much hanging out to present the Gospel award.

        • Pivyque

I agree with you. Maybe if she was presenting rap, it would have been a little more appropriate.

  • linda m.

SALVATION IS PERSONAL. meagan good can do whatever she likes just like anyone of us. Only GOD the Almighty will judge. let us mind our business. if you don’t like her dress, don’t look at her.

  • favor03

…honestly, I was horrified, then embarrassed for her. Imo the dress was ill fitted, and in poor taste to allow your nipples to show through the fabric. Megan you are an experienced actress, and you are fully aware of the wardrobe options to cover your nibbles for television. Where was your stylist?! Paleeze… You could of at LEAST took precaution to ensure if you wanted to pull off that hot mess of a dress on tv, that at least it should have been a quality tailored fit. You could have pulled it off, but shame on those who allowed you to walk out on that stage and didn’t have your back. If you paid more than a $1k for that dress you should demand a refund. All you needed was a more quality tailored fit. The body tape was not aligned properly to enhance your breast , but gave the appearance of sagging breast in the dress, and it appeared as if you also had a small. I was mortified!! It was sad I was sincerely embarrassed for you. Yes, you have a right to all you said in your statement. I am a fan Megan, but come on, you must realize, this was a serious wardrobe malfunction to the max!! Very poor quality…Somebody lied to you that night, my dear sister. Your stylist and camp need to be fired. Contact Wendy Williams stylist they would have had your back, or Rachel Zoe, believe the results would have been more favorable…it would have come off perfectly for you. So sorry, still a fan.

I don’t agree with the outfit due to the fact she was going to the Gospel awards, it wasn’t a red carpet event. There is a certain image as to how you present yourself in certain atmospheres. Would you wear something like that to Church?? Most likely not, that atmosphere is to be surrounded to God and the Holy Spirit not have people beginning distracted by what one was mis informed to wear. She needed to be in something more reserved and classy. POINT BLANK, I HAVE SPOKEN… Personally if I marry a pastor tomorrow, I already know what it is. There is a certain way to present yourself. I wont loose myself but sometimes less is always better. Leave room for the imagination.

GOD HELP US ALL!!! PEOPLE OF GOD WAKE UP!!!

I saw the dress and Im thinking ok what statement are you trying to portray.I know that it takes time to evolve from some of the things that we did in the past that we know in our hearts are either to risky or not worth doing anymore .Simply put it the dress draws to much attnetion to her breasts and its pretty clear to anyone that that most have been the intent .We all have to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling and I think that when you are in the public eye you are expected to show yourself to a even higher standard because there are a lot of weak people saved or not that will look up to how she dresses and attempt to follow he foot steps .Im not saying here that she should dress like a Nun but there is always a way to dress with more on that could easily show off some curves without letting it all hang out .I pray that this morphing that she says she is going through helps her to dress with class and just a bit more respect for who she is and who she represents .If you say you are a Christian then there are just some things that conviction will tell you is too risky and not worth attempting .God Bless her and I pray she sees the light because everyone that sees her in this dress can see a whole lot more .

  • Just Sayin

She actually did claim to represent God and his kingdom. When you make the decision to do that, people are going to ask why you are wearing something that is inappropriate for a representative of God to wear. I mean, if Jehovah Witnesses showed up at your door in latex cat suits with the nipples and crotches cut out, would you believe a word they were saying? lol When you publicly announce your dedication to God, we do expect you to represent him at all times, no matter the occasion. Saying “she’s young” or “she’s an actress” or “it was an award show” are all excuses. Tamela Mann is an actress and she was at the same award show. If she wore something inappropriate, we would have been asking her why too!

  • LovelyChy

I totally agree with her! She don’t owe not one person an explanation as to “why” she chose to wear the dress she wore!!! She answers to GOD FIRST and then her HUSBAND!!! If I recall she, is the one who put that dress on and walked that red carpet, not you, not I but HER! If she walked out of her home with her husband on her arm and peace in her heart, it ain’t nobody else business as to “why” she chose the dress or if it was “appropriate in the eyes of other people that don’t really matter at the end of the day! And last time I checked with the Word, it says that we are accountable for our own lives and what HE told us to do when it’s all over, done and said with. So, why are we so concerned about this again?!?!?

I’m soooooo sick and tired of people, especially the “Christian” church having an opinion about everybody else’s life!!! The best thing you can do is pray for anything that don’t sit well in your spirit and leave it in GOD’S HANDS!!! HE is the ONE who speaks to the heart of man and transforms the heart! Christ is our example and its a LIFETIME process to get to become the example in every area of our life… And only God knows how long it takes for us to get there… Give and SHOW more LOVE (which leads to COMPASSION) and not so much HATE people of God! Blessings!

  • jusme

It was not a good choice. She don’t have to where dresses up to her neck, but not attention seeking clothes.

  • Resa

    Totally agree!!!!!

  • Resa

God had no problem with nudity; less we forget the story of Adam and Eve! They walked around the garden of Eden completely naked until Eve manipulated by the serpent and we all know who that was;. enticed Adam into biting that apple. The body is beautiful, the mind can be warped and ugly.

  • just sayn

I actually loved the dress she had on and I thought she looked lovely. I do not question her spiritually nor do I judge her, however the problem I had with the exposure was the fact that she was presenting the award for Gospel and she knew that so sometimes we need to think about backlash or moral issues before we attempt to be in the secular mind set. The dress fit her to a tee but I think for that award representation she should have worn something a little more discreet! Just my opinion!

  • Shaquanda

    WHO CARES?

  • Suchaladyebb

I want to know why is this still an issue. She’s a grown woman who can wear what she wants. She’s better than me cause I would’ve just said I wore the dress because I wanted too end of story. She is a preacher’s wife but she is still her own person. smh

  • Fruitii Gum

God said to rend your heart and not your garment but he also said don’t bring whoredom upon the land, she should also know that our body is the temple that the holy spirit is suppose to dewl in , Christians have the right to judge but according to Gods word and any Christian can see this is not right.

But then again i’m not surprised many Christians don’t take their faith seriously so other people that know about your faith wont take your faith seriously either.

If Muslims are sill able to wait to lose their virginity to their husbands/wives in England and America because the Quran tells them to do so, then why can Christians do the same thing even tho the bible tells them to do so? And please don’t use Jesus forgiving you as an excuse.

    • Child_Puhleez

      Exactly. smh

  • God first man word LAST

Everybody has a opinion right? Well my advice to you all is once you’re done being “opinionated” Sit in front of the mirror and self reflect.

  • God first man word LAST

I think what Meagan had worn to the BET awards was fine, and she surely looked fine in it. I don’t believe no one should be judge on how they choose to dress. No one knows how God exactly wants us to be clothed because in the beginning Adam nor Eve was clothes less. It is life and MAN who decided that a certain decorum is “what God wants” It’s the sin and lust that distracts us from the fact that our bodies are beautiful and shouldn’t be hidden; however, because “Christians” desire to stay away from lust and sexual impurities, what Meagan has on is wrong. If the lustful thought didn’t come across their mind in the beginning, then to questions her clothing wouldn’t have been even a thought.

  • folamix

The way I see it, she wore the dress to get attention for her, not the genre she was presenting. She got it, end of discussion

SCREW THEM ALL MEGAN YOU LOOK DAMN GOOD BABY DONT LET THEM STILL YOUR JOY!!!!!!!!!!! U ARE BEAUTIFUL!!

  • SYH

To a Degree Good is right she has a lot of growing up in the spirit to do. However it is(and was) her husbands responsibility to check her. Look what happened in the Garden of Eden. Eve did what she wanted and paid a heavy price. GOD was harshest on Adam because GOD spoke to HIM about HIS responsibility. She made a mistake that I hope and sincerely feel she will correct in time as her relationship in GOD evolves. Age doesn’t mean you automatically know how to do better or be better.

  • Kelow

Some Christians are judging her so harshly as if they are always doing what’s right, but question to all of you that are judging is why were you watching the BET awards or looking/commenting on gossip blogs if ya so holy as portray yourself to be? #getyolife

    • Cold Piece

      Hello!

  • Kimberly Elle

Was the dress Good wore to the awards inappropriate? Yes. As a First Lady you have a duty. Yes she can wear what she wants but ANY Christian has to be careful to not present themselves in a manner that would cause someone else to sin. I don’t feel that she is playing on the sympathy of others. She is being TRANSPARENT with her walk with God. She said she is MORPHING into the person God intended her to be. It Takes TIME. That means she’s gonna get it wrong sometimes. She’s not gonna be the perfect Christian overnight. It doesn’t exist anyway. One bad decision doesn’t get her sent to hell. And if you as a Christian doesn’t feel like she has been convicted like you feel she should be, PRAY for her… pray that God prunes her heart…. Her mind for a new perspective.

    • Foolishness!

no one is saying that she is going to be the perfect christian overnight..none of us are, no matter how long we have been in the faith. however, as my post below states, her husband grew up in the 7th Day Adventist Church…raised in it from a child. And is currently a minister of the Lord’s church. Therefore, he, as the head of his doggone household, should absolutely know to tell his wife of 1 year that what she was planning to wear to the awards show was absolutely inappropriate. what happened to the seasoned Christian instructing the baby Christian, huh? Megan Good and her husband are inexcusable on this one. He is a seasoned and devout man of God. If SHE didn’t know better; HE knew better. He will give an account to GOd for how he leads his household. This was an embarrassment to the both of them..as a Christian couple and ministers in God’s church. There is no excuse for this gross display of “eff ‘dem…imma do me.” No excuse. Devon should be ashamed of himself and the display of his wife like that. He did not provide a godly covering for her that night. Left her out there in the damn cold for this kind of thing. While he may not have been for it, who knows, he still allowed her to walk out of the damn house dressed like an upscale call girl. It was embarrassing. They need spiritual parents in their life. Shame on the Good & Franklin household. Stop justifying it. It is a shame.

  • http://twitter.com/Kiki_Liki Kay-El

I’m not buying it. Especially if this was copied directly from her statement. If you look at the last paragraph, when she is referring to God she is using lowercase letters for he,him etc. That’s not OK in the faith. It really isn’t. Good should understand that when you’re representing something you need to be careful of everything you do. If you rep Pepsi don’t get caught drinking Coke, that’s an issue. If you’re a christian and you are a preachers wife, at least put on some pasties. You don’t have to show skin to look beautiful. Obama and so many other women have proven that. This statement didn’t say anything. Good needs to realize when you give your life to God you can’t keep up with this “Ima do me” attitude it’s “Ima do what HE directs me to do” Her logic is backward and it was selfish of her to do something like this. I really would like to know what her husband thought. Was he with her that night? I’m just really curious about that.

    • Foolishness!

yes, he was with her. google it. in some of the pics, he looked sort of embarrassed but also trying to keep up a face for the cameras and the red carpet. it is a shame and reproach to Christ…

  • Foolishness!

our duty is as a Christian first — a representative of Christ on the earth. Everything we do and say and wear should bring glory to God, not a reproach to the name of Christ. Megan KNOWS she was absolutely wrong and inappropriate. and if she didn’t know, her husband, Devon Franklin, knew. He is a minister in one of the most conservative and modest belief systems in the world. The Bible instructs us as believers to present our bodies and a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God…this is our reasonable act of worship. Reasonable. Yes, Mrs. Good looked fierce in that dress, but she did not represent her walk with Christ, the sanctity of a Christian marriage, or the standard by which God tells us to live by wearing it. Shame on this couple. I am embarrassed for both of them. She knew better. Devon knew better. Next time, do better.

    • Resa

The bible ? which version? There is so many misinterpretations. We come from dust and when we die we go back to dust. except for our souls which doesn’t care about our sense of fashion. So tell me where in the bible does it say that my Vera Wang,, Versace, Wal Mart, Target or whatever clothes I’m wearing will be going to heaven with me and not left rotting in my casket? God does not look at my earthly garments, He looks at my heart. Judge not unless you be judged! God’s children love and pray for each other unconditionally not critically. I’m done.

    • Kitten Roulaine

      Spot on.

  • Bishop Dean

If her husband approved it… who are we to judge? She is an actress and doing premieres and events is part of the business. I grew up Pentecostal Holiness and believe me those long skirts… come up faster than Meagan Good plunge line

    • http://twitter.com/Kiki_Liki Kay-El

i didnt see any mention of her husband approving.

      • Eliza J.

He was posing for pictures with her on the red carpet looking mighty pleased. I’m sure if he disapproved he would have told her he felt it was inappropriate and he probably would not have wanted to be seen with her because people might then gather that he approved.

    • Foolishness!

bishop, shame, shame, shame on you.

      • Resa

He’s telling the truth! .you rather he lie? I also grew up in the Pentecostal faith Saw a lot of stuff that had nothing to do with God! Let God be God, you have no right to Judge anyone…

if she was truly Christian and read the Bible would know why folks were upset, but obviously she doesn’t and cared more about the attention she got. Anyway not a fan so….

  • Nicole Osbourne James

I didn’t know her religious faith at all, and I did not know it was a requirement to be a Christian to present a gospel award. I don’t know too much about the process of choosing presenters but I always thought it was kind of random. Back in the day I thought it was funny that country singers sometimes presented the R&B/rap/hip-hop awards and barely knew anything about the nominees. Rappers present the jazz awards, rock and punk singers present the world music awards, whatever. I don’t think that the award that she presented should have any reflection on her dress choice. There has been so much needlessly harsh commentary — some Christians need to recognize that their own BEHAVIOUR was a lot more inappropriate than Megan’s low-cut dress. Done.

Done.

I don’t see why there’s a whole debate either. I’ve never heard her say that she is a Christian despite being married to a minister, I STAND CORRECTED though. However, quick point, I am a Christian and contrary to what she says, she is “just doing her” though. Being a Christian isn’t just a title, it is a way of life, it is a core belief. When you really accept Jesus into your life, you start to you act differently, speak and reason differently and choose differently in spite and despite of whatever you do for a living.. However, leave the woman alone, the dress has been worn..

Exactly… because I bet half the commenters here are shacking up with someone they aren’t married to… or doing anything else they claim is wrong for non-Christians to do and they do the same!

Meanwhile basing life from a book written by Shakespeare tho..

Meagan Good’s dress garnered her the most press she has received in years. If only her acting talent could generate that much in her.

People are making some very valid points here… What I will say though is when she said “And my spirit tells me to be exactly who I authentically am -because that’s what’s going to reach who I was authentically designed to touch,” While some might not relate to this, I see where she was coming from. We can help others in different ways, some not as conventional as others. I dont know if the dress was a good choice or not as I personally wouldnt feel comfortable wearing it while talking about the gospel categories but hey, its all about convictions. Just because she married a preacher doesnt mean her Christian walk is perfect. If thats not her conviction YET let the woman live… I’m willing to bet she learned from this though and if she is the woman of God that she claims to be it will change her and her choices for next time.

“my spirit tells me to be exactly who I authentically am….” Umm, we are all

“authentically” sinners and once you accept Christ into your life, you are supposed to be working to be who God wants you to be.

Like I’m going to take a doctor seriously if his white coat was covered with a bunch of stains & his hands where dirty. Or eat a plate of food at a restaurant that looks like someone plopped it on there like the dude from Oliver Twist. Presentation is everything. We looks with the eyes first. Everyone does. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t. She should know that as a woman who is married to a minister, her life is now under a microscope. Trust me, I’m a PK (preachers kid) I know….

Instead of really understanding where some in the Christian community are coming from, she has taken the who “God knows my heart” route. My problem with this is as Christians personal relationship is so important. Its the time when no one is looking that matters most in our walk with Christ. I am not saying Megan isn’t saved or loves God any less because of her dress, I am saying she seems fairly new to being a christian and needs to really understand the importance of modestly and being a little more wise in the choices you make. For her to not state at all that the dress was even a little bit inappropriate or maybe apologize for how it may have been received it lets me know she is not using wisdom at all. Sometimes its not judgmental at all it accountability.
I by the way by no means approve of anyone bashing Megan Good, we have all made mistakes and done things wrong. I feel the more her relationship with God grows the more she will realize why it isn’t okay to dress so provocatively.

Right or wrong, let me put a new spin on it for you. The dress is beautiful and Meagan has a gorgeous shape. BUT, the question of her witness is what I think some Christians are so inadequately addressing. She has a right to dress as she pleases, but the question is, “is she by doing so causing others to sin…..lust? 1 Corinthians 8:9 reads “But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.” English Standard Version translates as this “But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak” I know based on Cedric the Entertainer’s comment right behind her that a whole LOT of men were thinking of what was under that dress.

We have to be careful that what we do does not cause someone else to fall into sin. It is easy to say that “God doesn’t care about the role we play or what we wear” and He doesn’t if you don’t have it (it meaning the appropriate clothes to wear), but what we must remember is that for the weak, this could cause one to fall. Why be the cause of that? Now for all the judging and name calling, that ain’t God-like either so everybody sinning if that is the case.

Miss Pam, I couldn’t it any better!

    • Job

Spot on sista’ Pam, some of these “christians” need to learn the Word of God and toss their opinions in the dumpster, your opinion on anything already clearly stated in the Word of God is irrelevant, it matters not what you think, but the sad thing is, it’s clear, y’all don’t even know the proper conduct that you are to live your life out in while you walk the earth, this dress wouldn’t give any God fearing woman of God a split second to mull it over as to it being appropriate to wear, unless before your husband in the privacy of your home. It comes down to living a Holy life. Holy is the Hebrew word Kadoshe, which means, to put it in western terms, a cut above everything else out there, since when does wearing a dress that makes you look like a street walker Holy??? If you wouldn’t wear it with Jesus on your arm, it’s probably not ok, it’s not that hard. Look here, 1Peter 1:13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind (Dude, wake up, think straight) be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace( grace is not a pass to use to exonerate you when you blow it, it’s Holy Spirit empowerment to do what the Word commands of us) that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;14 as obedient children, NOT conforming yourselves to the former lusts (the way you USED TO dress) , as in your ignorance (dumb) ;15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in ALL your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy. You people worship detestable idols, the praise of men, your bodies, fashion, “looking good” ad nauseum, you need to meet the King of Kings, for real and get delivered. Oh Jesus, touch them!

  • sabrina

I 100% agree with her. She’s absolutely right. People feel like she’s undeserving of God’s love because she doesn’t uphold to their own personal standards and that’s simply unfair and untrue.

  • Lisa Middleton

It’s a new day! Can we move on?!

  • Nehes Ba’a Rayay

she’s still young and feelin’ herself.. probably should’ve had a Mother of the Church come with that ‘White Cloth’ and placed it on her front shoulders!!!! LMBAO!!!! laid back Christians and Strict Christian don’t wanna see that Mother of the Church with that ALL white on with that CLOTH covering up that SHAME!!!! LOL!!!! #HelpFreeMalachiYork

  • Atin

I am tired of people talking negatively about what she wore. People are SO judgmental and critical. And we seem to care way more about appearance than character. And who are we to say if she’s wrong or right? That’s between Meagan and God, not Meagan and everybody else.

    • grid2003

We are to say if it is right or wrong. Christians are suppose to tell each other when they are doing something that is not right, but in a loving way. I don’t agree with the people that are attacking her appearance and her character. I don’t think she is any less of a Christian for wearing the dress. I think she just used poor judgement when choosing an outfit for the evening. Me saying the dress is inappropriate is not judging. Me saying she is less of a Christian would be judging.

    • Nehes Ba’a Rayay

in all honesty.. outward appearance is affected by inner character. how does that Priest looks everytime you see him? or what about your pastor? what about a Cardinal? what about Kohen, an Imaam??? a Nun?? what about Christ?? he could have dressed like the Romans or the Babylonians?? however there was a detailed description of the image and garb of christ in Rev. 1:13 ijs #helpfreemalachiyork

      • Live_in_LDN

BULLCR***P! How many priests do we know who are molesting the choir boys and pinching from the church account? Con men and fraudsters usually look sharp in slick business suits. Jesus himself wore rags. You sound really simple and probably get ripped off in life a lot if you think inward character is reflective of appearance.

  • Guest360

I have a new respect for Ms. Good. She is who she is and will not allow anyone to pressure her into being or doing something she is not. I respect that. Kudos to her for defending herself in the right way, the classy way. Say what you want about her dress but you’ve got to respect the girl’s confidence and sense of self.

  • Nope

Damn, MN sure is milking this one (no pun intended)

  • Diane Whauloknat Bridges

The devil is a liar! Oh this wicked world has warped some but not all. I believe modesty and humility is what a preachers wife is EXPECTED to portray….she did not….but after all this dress correlates to stories of her past. I thought she was a new creature … I guess not. Btw it’s not judgement more so discernment

  • .:*whitneyeclectic*:.

Yeah….the question IS “Why?” As in Why is this even a topic of conversation. It’s just a dress. She’s a grown woman and she can wear whatever she pleases.

  • triumfant

La Truly, before you post anything, you should at least take 30 seconds to find out the correct name of the celebrity you’re blogging about. Is that too much to ask?

  • Kam

I wonder how many of these same people dress “appropriately” when they go to church. I have seen so many women come to church looking like they just left the club, or just got off the pole and put a blazer on to class it up a bit. These are probably the same folks worrying about the cut of this womans dress. Meagan Good was dressed for the occassion, and whether anyone agreed with her dress of choice matters not.

  • Enjuli Bullock

I think her dress was beautiful. Why is it that we Christians love to criticize people. Its her choice, not anyone else’s….

  • MsBeauitfulEgypt

People need to leave Meagan Good alone. I think she looked very good in her dress for the BET Awards. There wasn’t nothing wrong with it, we as Christian’s forget she is still young and in the acting world. So she has the right to still look good and dress apart. Why are we so quick to judge this Meagan Good, we need to look into the mirror and worry about our own selves. For all we know she could be a better Christian than half of us out here! I know a lot of these so called Christian mad because she has a nice little cute shape and can wear these cute outfits and they can’t. So leave this woman alone!!!!!

    • grid2003

Why is young always an excuse when people do something they should not? I am the same age as her, and me saying “oh I did that because I am still young” certainly is not an excuse. Her dress was beautiful and she looked awesome in it, but just because we look good in something, doesnt mean that we should wear it.

    • Fair and Balanced

Well said, too many people are so quick to judge I wonder if they would be as quick to judge if it they were given the opportunity to wear the same dress. People seem to forget let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

    • alex

Most people are questioning her choice of outfit, which leads to a question of her character. So, we may not be in any position to judge, sure, but the main point here was that the dress was a little bit too revealing, that is all. Historically it has been inappropriate to show a lot of skin or be too revealing (for both sexes) because it can be a distraction. Her dress was a distraction, a distraction from the point of the task she was supposed to do, present an award. If she wasn’t so revealing it wouldn’t have been a big deal. Let’s pray for her.

      • Live_in_LDN

This is not the first time someone has worn a revealing dress to an awards show. Do you remember JLos green deep v versace dress? The dress that made her famous. I seemed to remember no one saying that dress was inappropriate.

        • Pivyque

Probably because J.Lo never publicly stated that she was religious. So, it wasn’t surprising to see her in something like that and, from what I remember, she already had the “J.Hoe” nick name.

        • mooney65

Well JLo is no preacher’s wife!
