Where Are They Now? The Cast of “Family Matters”

- By

The Mothers

Jo Marie Payton

The smart and no-nonsense mom Harriette Winslow, in every day life, Payton went on to guest star on “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “Moesha,” was the voice of “Suga Mama” for 50 episodes of “The Proud Family,” was on “Meet the Browns,” and even “Desperate Housewives.” In 1999, the actress actually released a jazz album called, Southern Shadows. She doesn’t look like she’s aged much at all.

Judyann Elder

The back-up mom after Payton departed “Family Matters” during the final season, Elder didn’t make much of an impact as Harriette (seeing as she was only on a few episodes), probably because she was better known for being Gina Waters’s mom on “Martin.” After work on both shows ended, Elder went on to appear in movies like Dead Man on Campus and Seven Pounds, and guest starred on “Desperate Housewives,” “Cold Case,” and most recently, “Love that Girl.”

Rosetta LeNoire

Known as Mother Winslow on the show, LeNoire’s character was full of knowledge, and had MAD jokes too! Once the show ended, LeNoire really only did the show “Cosby,” and in 2002, the veteran Hollywood star passed away from complications from diabetes.

Telma Hopkins

Rachel Baines-Crawford was the sister of Harriette on the show, who came to live with the family after her husband passed. In the end though, she was only on for a short time and her character wound up disappearing off of the face of the earth, but not before opening the very live Rachel’s Place for the kids in the neighborhood. But when she left, Hopkins wound up in The Wood, The Love Guru, and The Clean Up Woman. She’s also done guest work on “The Hughleys,” and “Are We There Yet?”, and of course, had the role of being Mona’s mother, Phyllis, on the UPN comedy, “Half & Half.”
