MadameNoire Featured Video

It’s the end of the week, madames! Time to check in with our editors and see what they’re loving and not so loving about the week:

China’s List

Presidential Love: OK. You knew there was no way President Obama was going to be on The View this week and I wouldn’t watch–and write about it.

Reader Love: Speaking of which, one of our readers posted a comment on the article I did write about Obama & the Essence magazine controversy. The reader included a link to this video, which I viewed in entirety (and you should too). The video so brilliantly argues why the super light-skinned Michaela Angela Davis’ rejection of the white Essence editor is so…ironic. (And I love you, Michaela…but I’m just saying).

Song Love: I’m grateful for the new joys in my life (*wink*), but I do know what it’s like to overcome life’s toughness, so when Danielle Kwateng, Madame Noire’s assistant editor asked me for a song to include in her “Top 20 Anthems for Bossy Divas” story this week, I couldn’t help but recommend Lauryn Hill’s tune, “I Get Out.” That song embodies every negative thing and person I’ve quit for good!

Ridiculousness Love: So, this week, Ellen announced she’d be leaving American Idol. Why can’t American Idol leave American Idol?

Kweli’s List

Fall Fashion Love: The seasons won’t change for another two months, but I’m fantasizing about all of next season’s trends. On my list: animal accents, jewel-tone velvet, camel-colored anything, straight-legged pants, and funky footwear.

Target Harlem Love: The big red bull’s-eye hit Harlem last week with a grand opening and the red, of course, carpet rolled out for celebs as well as some of the featured Harlem Target designer collaborators like chef Marcus Samuelsson. The  online store-where I’ll be shopping-starting August 1.

Purple Polish Love: My cute as a button co-worker had her toes polished with this striking purple color and I was in love at first sight! The color is called “Funky Donkey” by OPI and from their Shrek collection. Done!

Brand New Mommy Love: I know Karen Taylor Bass from back in the day when we both worked in the music industry. We had a great chat the other day and she sooo inspired me to get my ish together and reinvent myself, my brand. Her brand: The Brand New Mommy, an online destination for savvy black moms who are in need of renewal.

Danielle’s List

Nail Love: I gauge a good nail polish by it lasting a week, since I’m the dish washer in my home. And the new shade of gold by Ginger + Liz has been doing an awesome job.

Photo Love: Nina Sky is coming back after six years with a new album and website. The girls look gorg and funky in this shoot to promote their EP– also love thier first single with Kidz in the Hall “Only You (Take Me Away)”

Movie Love: Went to the screening for the second New Orleans focused film by Spike Lee called “If God Is Willing And The Creek Don’t Rise.” Let me tell you, Lee has some powerful information in this film. Can’t wait for it to be released in the fall. The effects of the BP oil spill are more devastating than most know.

Good Man Love: Sat down with a room of writers and bloggers this week to listen to Lyfe Jennings upcoming album “I Still Believe”. Not only is the album full of substance, but the Ohio-native is such a sweet and warm person. Wish him all the best on his new project.

XOXO
