¡Sorpresa!: Celebrities We Didn’t Know Were Latino

December 12th, 2011 - By Rachel Louissaint

Being a New Yorker I am used to living in a city where everyone is mixed with everything. If you walk the streets and ask somebody what their ethnicity is be ready for a response like ,” Well on my dad’s side I’m ….”.  It’s always interesting to me to see what people say when you ask them what their ethnicity is. When it comes to celebrities we we can’t help but want to know every little detail about them. Here are some celebrities that you didn’t know were Latino. Some of these may surprise you. Despite their African- American looks, these celebrities are proud to be of Latino heritage.

Jim Jones

When you think of Jim Jones you think of Dip Set, Harlem, Chrissy but you would never guess that he is Latino. He is actually Puerto Rican and Aruban. If that doesn’t sell you, his middle name is Guillermo. Even though he is Latino, his Spanish isn’t too good, so don’t expect him to appear on any reggaeton tracks anytime soon.

WOW. African americans are messing this whole thing up. A black and a latino don’t still make u latino. U r half. In contrast, a latino and a latino makes latino, no matter the color or nationality. The headline makes u think these people are full latinos. Only milian, dawson and Forbes are. Milian and Dawson look hispanic while the others look like blacks or partial blacks. Yes u can tell most of the time. Not always. I think it’s obvious that even black latinos and dark latinos look different than blacks which creates jealousy. The black people then want to lump everybody together to merorar(better) their race. They got the “I got some spanish in me or indian in me crap” sindrome. I could be wrong. Peace to all the Latinos and African Americans.

You didn’t know Rosario Dawson and Christina Milian were Latino?  Really?  Ya’ll really must be bored to do this article.  And I’m from California and we don’t have a large Dominican population, at least not in my area, so I’m wondering what in Fabolous face allows you to see it?

for the most part, I really love Madame Noire. However, this was a really ignorant post. You can’t just look at someone and tell what their ethnicity is. Also, black is a COLOR not a race…so there are many “black” people that do not fall under the category of African American. It kinda resurfaced racism on a different scale. If an individual were to venture outside of America and expose themselves to other cultures, they could read this and understand just how ignorant it is. Perhaps, the person who wrote this article should travel more, and expand the limitations of narrow-minded thought.
