When I think about Ciara’s parents, I think of that fact that her father, Carlton Harris took over a lot of caregiving responsibilities for Baby Future after her relationship with Rapper Future ended. And I know that she named one of her albums Jackie after her mother. But that’s been the extent of my knowledge. But recently, when Ciara appeared on Rupaul’s new eponymous talk show, he asked about her parents and their relationship. And that’s when Ciara shared something she hadn’t before.
“So…actually I’ve never said this before but I think I can say it with okay—within myself. My parents had been married for 33 years and they’re not together anymore. However, they are both happily married so it’s good. But that was also, for me, was very out of body too. Imagine you go for 33 years of mom and dad being together and then when I had my child, my son, my first child—I just know mommy and daddy being that made baby that was what the scenario was supposed to be. My mother and father went their separate ways shortly after Russell came into our lives. I was 29 going on 30. I do remember laying into my husband’s arms because whoa that was a reality for me. But I do have to say I enterered 30 with a bang.
And like I say my mother and father are happily married. And I never thought I’d be okay with that but I really am, I’m happy that they’re happy.”

Russell Stepping Up To Help Raise Baby Future
I did meet the love of my life sooner than I had planned. In my mind, I thought I was going to be single for four years. And I met him actually when my son was 10 months old. And that was a very special moment because he came into our lives and was ready to love the both of us with everything. He was changing diapers. When our son—and I say our son—when Future made his first steps, he was just as excited as I was. And God is good because I really didn’t know that would happen. I was like, ‘Ima be single for four years. I’m sitting still, let me just be still for a second. Let me figure this out.’ And he came much sooner than I expected.
