Fourth-time mommy Anansa Sims showed her followers the results of her dramatic weight loss just seven weeks after delivering her son Ashton, whom she shares with former NBA star Matt Barnes.
“45 down, 15 to go. Loving my waist trainer from @bodyshapers. When you’re getting ready to go out and you start dancing in the mirror,” Sims, 40, wrote under the Instagram photo.
The plus-size model has been very open about her postpartum journey and often details the demands of life as a working mother with a blended family. Both Sims and Barnes have children from previous relationships–Sims has a daughter and two sons with ex-husband David Patterson, while Barnes has twin boys with ex-wife Gloria Govan.
As the daughter of iconic supermodel Beverly Johnson Sims has carved out a lane for herself in the modeling world, striking a pose for various different brands, and was the only Black model included in a 2009 groundbreaking Glamour shoot which featured seven popular plus-sized models ranging from sizes 12-14.
Sims has experienced the roller coaster of emotions that goes with living in the public eye while also participating in an industry that relies entirely on her looks.
“My mom contributed so much to society by showing that black is beautiful. Now I realize my contribution can be being a real-size or normal-size model, showing women that it is OK to have some meat on your bones and it is OK to love yourself that way,” she said in a 2009 interview with the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
And while Sims’ weight loss news may make other women struggling with weight loss after having a baby feel pressed, it’s important to remember that everyone’s mommy-hood journey is different.
But, we commend Sims for losing the weight and maintaining her standard for a healthy body for her and her family.
