Besides length, there is nothing Black women covet more when it comes to hair than strong edges. Sure, we all would love to have more shine or curl definition, but with the right product we can eventually get there. Edges, however, have to be cultivated and, in many of our cases, brought back to life after years of damaging habits. But it turns out, you might not need to do the most to protect your perimeter. In fact, Rihanna uses a brand you can find right in the drugstore to keep her strands soft and her hairline healthy.

The singer and beauty mogul’s hairstylist, Yusef Williams, recently chatted with Refinery 29 and he told the outlet his go-to products for the 30-year-old are raw castor oil, hot oil treatments, and ORS Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion because “It’s good for the hairline.” At $5 it’s also good on the wallet.

Yusef does use a few high-end brands on the Bajan beauty, however, saying he’s a fan of Peter Thomas Roth’s conditioners and scalp treatments. “I like to put it on and let it sit under the dryer, because it really moisturizes and promotes hair growth,” he explained. “Deep conditioners are imperative at all times.” So is taking a break from weaves, Yusef said. “You have to let your hair breathe, give it a break, and take care of it. I say that you have to talk to the hair and pray on it. It’s real.” Judging from the looks of Rihanna’s mane, she and Yusef have been praying hard.
