Tamar Braxton may be going through a divorce with estranged husband Vincent Herbert, but that doesn’t mean her opinions on how women should carry themselves in their relationships for the sake of their partner have changed.

While visiting The Steve Harvey Show recently with her new ‘do, the 41-year-old singer chatted with Harvey and fellow guest panelists, Keri Hilson and Kimberly Caldwell-Harvey. The women discussed a variety of topics, including whether or not they are willing to change their appearance for a relationship, specifically, to maintain it. The topic came about after chef Gordon Ramsay said earlier this year that he shed more than 50 pounds in order to keep his wife happy.

Caldwell-Harvey was clearly against the idea, saying if a man tells a woman she’s overweight, she’s likely going to respond by eating more to deal with hurt feelings. But both Hilson and Braxton didn’t see anything wrong with clear and honest communication when it comes to letting your partner know what you like and need.

“I disagree, sis! You want him to lie to you though?” Braxton asked Caldwell-Harvey. “You want him to act like he’s attracted to you when he’s not?”

“It’s not like you don’t feel yourself slipping,” she added. “I would rather my mate come and tell me ‘You’re looking like a hot mess.org’ then for you to go out here and get you somebody better than me when you could have had a conversation with me. It’s a conversation!”

The women believed there is nothing wrong with staying close in appearance to what “reeled” their partner in, and Braxton said she’d even changed her appearance in the past to please her man. As she’s stated before, the star stayed in blonde wigs during her marriage because that was Herbert’s preference.

“I believe in that though. I believe in being attractive for your mate,” she said. “I used to have all blonde wigs. I still have 150,000 of them at my house since I done shaved my head off. They’re for sale by the way, because I won’t be needing them anymore. But Vince liked blonde head, light, fair women. And I just wasn’t born with no blonde hair. But for me, I think that’s a responsibility that women have, is to stay current for your man.”

But now that Braxton is no longer seeking to stay in her marriage, she’s changing for herself. Hence the big chop she did ahead of her 41st birthday.

“Im over feeling captive to a wig, weave, people, people’s comments & opinions hell…even my OWN feelings!” she said. “WE can choose to stop these things from having the power and victory over us!! And for me, that starts TODAY.”
