In what way would you say that motherhood has influenced the decisions you’ve made when it comes to your hair? For trainer and fitness star Massy Arias, her eight-month-old was the reason behind her decision to chop off her signature bob cut and embrace her curls for the first time since she was young.

Arias, who is Afro-Latina, said in a caption on her Instagram page that her mother straightened her own hair for years while she ran around with curls growing up. Eventually, Arias got older and decided to straighten her own strands too. But the beauty said she’d consistently permed and put so much heat on her head over the years that it caused her to end up with a mild form of scalp psoriasis. Undergoing such struggles to have a certain look is not something she wants her daughter, Indira, to go through. So for that reason, she did the big chop:

Arias has said that having less hair has pushed her to have more fun with her face. She plays with lashes and makes sure her brows are clean now that her visage is no longer hidden by bangs and flowing locks:

She isn’t the first public figure to say that being a mom inspired her to go natural (or start wearing a natural texture again). Just a few months ago actress Kerry Washington said the same thing.

“I like to wear my natural texture, especially now because I have children and I want them to know that their hair is perfect as it is,” Kerry said in a chat with Allure. “They don’t have to change it or straighten it. They can, but they don’t have to.”

And while trying to figure out what hair products work for her and learning her curls isn’t going to be the easiest (who wasn’t a product junkie the first few months after going natural?), the TWA has, of course, made her workouts and post-workout routine much easier. Wash and go for the win!  Check out a few videos of Arias at work in the gym (no Indi this time) with her new look:
