Immigration Debate Hits Close to Home for Brooklyn Family

(New York Times) — While some people went to an immigration reform rally in Union Square on Saturday because of a new law in Arizona or stalled legislation in Washington, Miriam Saquisil said she was there simply to keep her family together.

Ms. Saquisil, 22, and her two sons, Jeremy, 5, and Pedro, 7 months, were born in New York and live in Brooklyn, but her fiancé, Pedro Chuc, the children’s father, does not have a green card. He came to this country 13 years ago from Guatemala.
