(New York Times) — The recession may be ending in the New York metropolitan area, but if history is any guide, no substantial recovery can begin until Wall Street stops shedding jobs and starts hiring again.  That was the message delivered on Wednesday by a group of economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. With the exception of the continuing loss of jobs in the securities industry, most measures of the regional economy suggest that the sharp downturn that began in mid-2008 has run its course, the bank’s economists said.
