The 8 Freshest Fall Makeup Trends

When the seasons change your closet shouldn’t be the only thing that looks different. In the makeup world there are a ton of options to keep your look fresh, fun and dramatic (for you night owls). In fact, this fall it’s all about drama with rich color coming back to lips and eye shadows that pop. Here’s a list of the ten hot looks that will keep your face glowing, even in the cold.

1. Dramatic Lashes

Betty Boop knew what she was doing with her flirty, feminine lashes. The trend to extend lashes is back in a big way and the great thing about it is that it works in formal settings as well as on casual days when you just want to glam up your look. We suggest going to a spa or salon to get them done by a professional, but if you choose to DIY them, be patient. There’s definitely an art to applying them! Quick tip: Make sure to have a good mascara in hand to blend the glued lashes in with your natural lashes.

2. Fire Engine Red Lips

In France, a woman leaving her house without lipstick on is a big no-no. And the movement has moved to the States. This season, the bolder, the better, especially if you have juicy plump lips. When rocking a rosy shade (my personal favorite is Beyonce’s Red Infallible Never Fail Lipcolour), try to keep the rest of your makeup simple. Also, don’t forget to gloss to keep moisturized for the cold.

3. Flower Power for Lips

Speaking of lips, if you’re not in a bold mood, try flowery soft shades in pink and peach to get a more subtle effect. Along with lipsticks, colored glosses are a great old school way to achieve the same look. Poke around in the makeup section of your local drug store—that Bonne Bell (in Melon Smoothie) might need to be resurrected.

4. Cheekbones with a Purpose

Giving definition to your cheekbones is a great way to draw attention to your eyes and, quite frankly, look thinner! The trick is in a good brush—grab a highlighter or light bronzer in a color close to your skin tone and apply from the middle of your cheek going upward.

5. Eye Glow

Ahh…youth! Remember the days when you never woke up looking tired and worn out. Well makeup can’t get you more sleep time, but applying a shiny gloss to your eyelids can give you an instant lift. This look can be achieved through a creamy base color that is the shinier twin to your foundation color. Quick tip: If you have tons of eye shadows already, try dabbing a little bit of Vaseline over your shadow to achieve a similar look.

6. Haunting Eyes

Yes, Halloween is over but your eye makeup doesn’t have to stop being smoky and dark. The look, which comes in and out of style like a revolving door, is back again. Go for blacks, grays browns—if you want “color” try dark green shadows. But avoid blues, for a less flattering bruised look. Makeup artists will agree — make sure to have a good concealer as your base on the lids. This helps colors to apply smoothly.

7. Ka-Brow!

There’s a reason why eyebrow-threading salons are popping up everywhere. It’s a fact of life: eyebrows can make or break a whole face. Seriously! The fall’s trend is to keep them thick and natural by filling in sparse areas of your brow with pencil or powder and defining the arch. We love Laura Mercier’s eyebrow pencil; get a shade darker than your natural brows to achieve definition.

Will you be trying out some of these fall makeup tips? What other black makeup looks will you be trying?
