It’s been a year since Mariah Carey and James Packer called it quits after 18 months of dating but, still, people are curious about what went wrong between the billionaire businessman and singer. According to James, there isn’t much to tell. In short, their relationship was simply a “mistake.”
The 50-year-old explained to The Australian that his personal and professional life were a bit of a mess when Brett Ratner introduced him to the 47-year-old divorcée. “I was at a low point in my personal life,” he said, explaining business debt was increasing while he and his estranged sister Gretel were struggling to figure out how to divvy up and invest money left to them by their father.
“She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”
What made the relationship a “mistake” James didn’t exactly say, but it appears he has no regrets over ending things, even after proposing to Mariah with a $10 million ring in January of 2016. When it comes to his ex-wife, Erica, however, who is the mother of his three children, he wishes he could’ve made things work.
‘It is my biggest regret that I let my marriage to Erica fail,” he stated. “It is what it is and she is doing an incredible job with the kids and we are in a great place.”
