Remember Gabby And Dwyane’s Fabulous Greece Vacation? It Was Actually A Couples Counseling Trip

When we saw the beautiful photos of Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade in Greece this past August, we immediately assumed the couple was just having an anniversary baecation. It turns out, the pair was actually spending their time in Mykonos working on their marriage with other husbands and wives.

Gabby shared that little tidbit in an interview with The Cut, when the interviewer used photos of her Grecian getaway as an example of how perfect the actress’ lifes seems from the outside. That’s when the 44-year-old shared that the trip wasn’t just a vacation, it was a couples-counseling experiment with her, D Wade and other friends who’d gotten married around the same time in 2014.

“We specifically chose a range of couples with different ideas, but who were all painfully honest and open and want to get better and actually want to stay married and actually like and f-ck their own spouses,” she explained. “So we spent a lot of time on that trip talking about strategies for success in marriage. But it was really couples of color who are committed to figuring it out and exploring our vulnerabilities and exploring our blind spots and figuring that out.”

Connecting with people who are going through similar experiences is big for Gabby these days. That need, she said, is what really underlies her decision to write a book.

“There is a part of me that just needs to be connected to other people who’ve been through some sh-t,” she said of We’re Going to Need More Wine, which debuted yesterday. “I’m like, ‘I’m having a meltdown — anybody? Anybody? Anybody out there? No? Just me? Okay.’ Just feeling connected with other people who’ve been through some sh-t and knowing I’m not alone.”
