In a new interview with PEOPLE, the always hilarious Tiffany Haddish talked about how life has changed since she’s become a household name following the success of Girls Trip, but more so, the ways in which life has stayed the same. She still owns a knockoff Michael Kors purse, is obsessed with Groupon deals and drives a hybrid car. For the 37-year-old star, knowing what and where she’s come from has persuaded her to continue to be mindful of how she spends her money — no matter what her co-stars are doing.

“I still drive a Honda HR-V. It’s a hybrid,” she said. “I still have a that fake Michel Kors purse, but I got a real Givenchy bag and Jada [Pinkett] just gave me a Fendi bag. I haven’t paid for these bag [sic] — these are gifts. Jada was like, ‘Tiffany, here’s a Fendi. You need one of these.’ I was like, ‘Oh cool.’ The last bag that I bought myself was a Madden Girl backpack that’s really cute. And it was on sale for $45!”

“I’m probably going to be cheap with my money for a long time,” Haddish added. “You know I’ve been homeless, so it’s like, ‘Yeah it’s here now but will it be here in 5 years?’ I don’t know.”

While her comments were humorous, per the usual, they were also enlightening. If the stars making yearly salaries for each project they do understand the importance of not jumping the gun in their spending habits, then those of us trying to emulate their moves could also practice being a bit more frugal.

There have been plenty other stars who are rolling in the dough who’ve given out truly sound financial advice based on their experiences, so we collected a few here since #WisdomWednesdays is trending. The more financially wise and stable we are, the better off we’ll all be.
