She’s Out: NeNe Leakes Kicked Off The Great Xscape Tour Over Rape Comment

October 12, 2017  |

Nothing good usually comes of a rape joke. In fact, most of the jokes couldn’t even be considered funny. NeNe Leakes just learned this lesson the hard way as one of her “rape jokes” just cost her a spot on The Great Xscape Tour.

For those who may have missed the news, NeNe is doing stand up comedy now, performing all over the country. But one attendee of a recent show didn’t appreciate her material. And apparently, the woman started heckling NeNe.

In an attempt to regain control of the audience, NeNe said, she hoped the woman’s Uber driver raped her when he took her home, that he stole her Hello Kitty.

It was clearly a desperate and ill-conceived attempt to one-up the woman. As you can imagine, it did not go over well.

After the backlash for the comment started pouring in, NeNe issued this apology via her Instagram page.

I am sorry

She even shed tears over the incident in a recent Instagram Live video.

But apparently, it was too little, too late. Leakes had been invited to join the ladies of Xscape, Monica and Tamar on tour. But the members of the group came to a decision that as supporters of women, they couldn’t allow her to participate.

They released a statement this morning explaining their decision.

“Like many, we were dismayed by the recent remarks made by our talented colleague and friend Nene Leakes. As a result, we have decided to no longer proceed with her participation on our tour. It was an unfortunate incident for which Nene has since apologized and we wish her the best as she navigates this very difficult period. As strong supporters of all women, we know this decision is what is best. Our hearts go out to all female victims and we stand with you! This tour is for and about our fans and we want to provide an entertaining and enjoyable experience for every single person who attends. As always, we are grateful for the love and support and we look forward to seeing all of you at “The Great Xscape” tour.”

I appreciate Xscape for taking this stance. It’s not only smart from a business perspective, as NeNe represents a liability at this point; but in today’s climate, we need everyone to speak up against comments, jokes and anything else that demeans women.

In many ways, NeNe has made a living off of the outrageous things she says. But this time she took it too far and it cost her.
