The Blackest Moments From The 2017 Emmys

Sterling K. Brown

I really love that Sterling kept it so Black. He talked about his White family, his tv wife Susan Kelechi Watson and the Black love they exhibit on screen,  he likened them to Martin and Gina and then he got cut off. Which was a damn shame. Thankfully, one of the reporters backstage gave him an opportunity to finish his speech. There he thanked his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, “And to my wife. They cut me off before I got to thank my wife, man. Ryan Michelle Bathe, you’re everything. You make my life worth living and you gave me two of the most beautiful things that God has ever put on this planet, my sons. Andrew Jason Sterling Brown, Amari Michael Ryan Christian Brown, your daddy loves you with the strength of a thousand suns. I’ll see you Monday after work. Love you.”

He also acknowledged that this particular win was special to him because it had been 19 years since another Black man had won it, Andre Braugher who won for playing Detective Frank Pembleton on “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
