After postponing this event for the birth of her son, Janet Jackson launched her State of The World Tour last night in Lafayette, Louisiana. After having a child, fans didn’t know how Ms. Jackson would return to the stage. But apparently after last night, folks can rest assured that she’s back in full effect. The opening night of the tour had more than a few noteworthy moments. So much so, that it was trending on Twitter. In addition to her showmanship, there was one moment that has people speculating about the reason for her sudden divorce.

Snatching Wigs

In case there were any questions about what was going to take place that evening, she made her intentions clear from the onset.

Addressing White Supremacy

Once Janet changed the name of her tour from Unbreakable to State of the World, it was evident that she would have to address all of the hatred that is plaguing the country and the world right now. Really, she already has more than one song that seeks to do this. Which is why it was so fitting that she open the tour with “The Knowledge.” She been told us. It’s just a shame the song’s message is still, if not even more so, relevant today.

Milly Rock

A clean, strong Milly Rock will get the crowd going every single time.

Houston Outreach

Now that the news cycle has been dominated by Hurricane Irma, the city of Houston could certainly use not only the increased attention but also some uplift to take their minds off of the weeks, months and years that it may take to rebuild and recover from Hurricane Harvey.

Bodak Yellow

Now, to be completely honest, I’m not entirely convinced this is the “Bodak Yellow” music. But I’ve been assured that it is, so I’m willing to make that assumption. If that is indeed the case, this is just further evidence of Cardi B.’s reign. If you weren’t sure before, the fact that it’s being incorporated into a certified legend’s stage time is pretty major.

Battered Woman

Now, this is that interesting moment I mentioned in the title. There was one point during the show where images of Janet’s battered face appeared on the screen. A fan recounted that at one point as these videos were sliding across, Janet said “that was me.” This same fan, along with another mentioned that Janet shed tears during this part of the performance, leading many to speculate that the cause of her divorce from husband Wissam Al Mana might have been caused by some form of partner abuse.

Man in The Chair

When Janet brings a man on stage to sit in–or be strapped to a chair, a few things could happen. He’ll either be seduced in front of a stadium full of people or he’ll be handled aggressively, as was the case here. If the man is not being aroused, he’s likely a member of the tour. People are assuming that this performance of “What About” could also have been connected to her split from her ex- husband as it was performed shortly after the video of her battered face.

Just because this is the forever jam as well as the feeling I got after watching the clips that surfaced on social media. Alright, Miss Jackson.
