You’re Going To Have To “Exfoliate Like A Madman” If You Want To Look As Youthful As Pharrell

If you were one of the many people consistently saying Pharrell Williams has been drinking from a fountain of youth because you still believe he doesn’t look a day out of his 20s, you’ll be happy to know the 43-year-old is sharing his secret to remaining youthful.

In a new conversation with Dazed, the music maker shared that what keeps him looking so sprightly is taking really good care of his skin. He has an aversion to dead skin, so the father of three is a fan of exfoliation.

“I exfoliate like a madman,” he told the magazine. “When you exfoliate and you drink a lot of water, that does good for you. To me, the key is just exfoliating, like a monster. There’s a lot of dead skin. All the time. Like a narcissistic madman.”

And something that aids in his youthfulness is Pharrell’s lauded sense of style. But he told the publication that the secret to his fashion sense is taking inspiration from everyday people and having fun with it.

“They have the best style, because it’s real,” he said. “It’s like, the maintenance man, he does maintenance, and so his clothes have a utility function. He’s going to wear it with that kind of swagger, so he shows you how to wear it. When I started wearing trucker hats, maybe 20 years ago, that was because I was seeing truckers wearing them and was like, that’s kind of cool.”

And to him, that’s what fashion is all about — dressing how you feel and in a way that’s inspired, but very much you.

“What it means to me personally is the same as what style is. It’s indicative of who you are and what you’re feeling,” Williams said. “Specifically, the way I look at it, it’s when I get up in the morning, it’s how I feel, it’s where I’m going, and what the weather’s going to be like. That kind of informs me of what it is that I’m wearing. When people are like, ‘I don’t really have any style, I don’t dress up,’ you kind of are. That’s what your clothes are saying.”
