We love when Black girls come together over mutual respect and admiration. That’s what happened with fellow artists SZA and Solange. SZA, whose real name is Solána Rowe, 26, told USA Today that Solange would be directing the visuals for “The Weekend,” the staple song from her debut album Ctrl.
The collaboration came about when SZA saw Solange singing “Love Galore” on one of her Instagram stories back in July.
Afterward, SZA tweeted, “Sigh I jus wanna hold hands ‘n spin around that room w/chu.”
Solange responded, “Less make a date and dooo it!”
From there they were likely in contact because later, the Twitter account DailySZA wrote about the collaboration.
Then SZA herself confirmed the news with USA Today. She didn’t give specific details but she did say that the video is filmed in over 10 different locations, with 10 different looks. SZA says she first met
Solange a year ago and the two have talked about collaborating since.
“I love her,” SZA said. “I think the universe is just bringing us closer to each other. That’s my homegirl.”
We can’t to see the final product.
