This fall, there aren’t very many black faces in the new network broadcast line-up, so that means even fewer black women to represent. However, there are a few shows where you can see black actors and actresses doing their thing, usually in secondary or recurring roles (sigh). So if you happened to be on the lookout, here are the new fall shows where you can find some great writing, good acting, and as a plus, a few black faces.
Person of Interest (CBS)
Taraji P. Henson plays Detective Carter in this highly-rated CBS procedural. Created by Jonathan Nolan (director Christopher Nolan’s brother), one the writers who penned critically-acclaimed films like Memento and The Dark Knight, and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, who created the smash hit Lost, the series has the potential to be both a megahit and a critics favorite. It must be doing pretty well so far in the eyes of viewers, because the show has been picked up for another season! Let’s hope Taraji gets some more juicy storylines. Recently, she complained that she was excluded from much of the promotion of the series.
