Looks We’re Falling For: Heavy Metals
By Loren Lee
The metallic trend is an annual occurrence we usually associate with the holidays. This year, Christmas is coming through early with designers including shimmery frocks and accessories in their fall 2011 collections. Click through the slideshow to find some great looks without the designer price tags. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered in silver and gold from top to bottom.
This luxurious knit is the definition of effortless cool. Metallic fibers are woven into the sweater, and the sheen it gives off is heaven! If the leopard print pants pictured are too much for you, pair the top with some thick tights and flats. Be fab and warm at the same time!
Metallic Blazer from Zara – $89.00
If Beyoncé can channel her inner Temptations in her latest video, “Love on Top,” then why can’t you? A metallic blazer is exactly the pizazz your fall wardrobe is missing. Pair this flashy superstar over a fitted dress or with neutral bottoms like dark denim and a printed tee to keep the look current and wearable.
These silver Lita’s come second to none! This style is one of Jeffrey Campbell’s most popular, but only the boldest fashionista would rock this attention-grabbing hue! A black jumpsuit with a cinched waist would give off a retro vibe paired with these babies, or opt to keep it simple and chic with skinny jeans and a flowing top in a neutral color. Whatever you do, keep the bottom half of your outfit sleek because the booties add bulk. Shine on!
Religion in Love Skirt from Asos.com – $66.35
DRAPED, HIGH WAIST, FOLDED PLEATS, ASYMMETRICAL. That’s a LOT going on. So keep the rest of your look simple by incorporating a solid colored cotton top (I think red would be gorg!), tights, and a simple heel or the wedges shown. If it ain’t broke…
Sequin Crop Jacket from Forever 21 – $27.80
This cropped jacket covered in silver sequins is divine! It looks like something Diana Ross wore back in the day, and who doesn’t love Ms. Ross?! (or at least her style) Close your eyes, drift off to a far away place and imagine yourself sporting this jacket with a cream sleeveless blouse, black leather pants and black suede pumps. Can you see it? Come on, Dreamgirl!
Straight Miniskirt from Zara – $59.90
This gold miniskirt gets straight to the point: fabulous! Sport this shorty with a more conservative top to even things out. A long-sleeved blouse tucked in like the one above is ideal, but feel free to go for a solid colored top if prints aren’t your thing. Oh, and baby it’s cold outside! So keep those legs warm with textured tights and finish it off with some ankle boots.
Hello, daytime glamour! This sequined sweater is perfect to wear on a lazy Sunday with leggings. Jazz it up with some jeans and knee-high boots for lunch with the girls. Even if you guys are just hitting up McDonald’s…
Need a cute alternative to sneakers for walking the dog or grocery shopping? Look no further because these shimmery slip-ons are stylish and go with everything! Not familiar with Toms? For every pair of shoes purchased, one pair will be donated to a child in need. Find comfort and style in “One for One.”
Necklace from H&M – $12.95
This choker-style necklace comprised of thin metal wire is as metallic as it gets! Expect to gleam when you add this futuristic piece of jewelry to the mix. It looks best over a bright, collared shirt or paired with a low-cut dress to accentuate that Hot neckline! Either way, you’ll have a hard time deflecting the limelight! Guaranteed!
Faux-leather leggings can be viewed as a wardrobe staple because everyone and their mother has a pair. The side metallic panel allows them to be seen in a new light. This item packs too much sheen for daytime, but is perfect to illuminate your night. However, THESE ARE NOT PANTS! Sorry for the caps, but you know that sentiment isn’t enough sometimes. A slouchy crème sweater and combat boots or a tunic and sky-high heels are sure to get you noticed! But be noticed for being stylish, not because your booty is out.
Tall Sequin Tee from Topshop -$90.00
I know, I know, this is not silver or gold. It’s the last item so why not add some bronze? After all, it’s still metallic. This sequined tee is not your average tall tee, obviously. Just look at the way it glistens! Almost too pretty to wear as any ‘ol shirt, this tee can be dressed up or down. Grab those jean shorts from summer, add tights, flats and a casual blazer for an, “I just wake up this awesome” look. Stone-gray trousers and dark wedges will take this shirt over the edge too. Go ahead, be a star.
Thoughts? Would you wear any of these metallic looks this season? Let us know in the comments. And remember: never let anyone steal your shine!
