Inauguration Day: Something To Get Us Through The Pain
There is no doubt that today is not going to be an easy day for most people. As we bid farewell to President Barack Obama, Michelle, Sasha and Malia and welcome a new era in the United States that will be both uncertain and likely very divisive, there is palpable tension and concern in the air. And while we here at MadameNoire can only do but so much, we did want to cobble together a fun slideshow with a few of our favorite things to get you through Inauguration Day 2017.
If there was ever a day to keep a constant rotation of cute puppy photos and videos on the ready, it’s Inauguration Day 2017. Might we suggest scoping out your local animal shelter’s Instagram feed for a daily dose of cute or the inspiration to get a four-legged friend of your own?
In much the same vein as our puppy suggestion, kitten videos can truly make a difference as Donald Trump’s merry band of morons takes to the White House.
Queen Bey could be just what the doctor ordered on January 20. Have “Lemonade” on a constant loop to not only take your mind off of what is happening in Washington, D.C. but also provide a healthy does of female empowerment when it matters most.
Hot Men: Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, Mike Colter
Not the most elevated of suggestions, but trust us when we say staring at some beautiful, chocolate men will at least make you think happy thoughts as the world around us gets seemingly thrown into chaos.
On the other side of the spectrum from hot men … babies! Looking at adorable little ones who hopefully will experience a far less divisive and frustrating world than we’re experiencing now could be a great way to take your mind off of Inauguration Day.
Donate To A Worthy Cause
We couldn’t recommend this more strongly. With all the chaos and uncertainty that is looming for some of the nation’s most important organizations (i.e. Planned Parenthood and others), Inauguration Day is the perfect time to donate time or money to these groups. Whether $5000 or $5, every bit will count as these organizations face difficult days ahead.
Eating your feelings isn’t the healthiest or most advisable option that we’re bringing to the table, but extreme circumstances, call for extreme action. So pounding that carton of ice cream or knocking back that sleeve of Girl Scout cookies is 100% acceptable on January 20.
If there is one show that can truly encapsulate our emotions, while still making us laugh it is “Black-ish.” Binge watch Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson’s brilliance and let it soothe your soul.
The future is one big question mark at the moment. But that doesn’t mean you should put your 2017 into park. In fact, do just the opposite. Make this year one to remember and truly savor, even if the political climate might not be as enjoyable.
If you haven’t already had a chance to see “Hidden Figures,” then this coming Friday night could be the perfect time to fully absorb some black girl magic.
